I approve of this greatly.

That's a bit harsh.

Perhaps, sorry. But I just read a comment that defended being constantly negative by pointing out how boring constant happiness and hype is. Which is completely fair i guess. But no less tactless.

Telling people to get over their opinions on sexually charged designs is kinda sad. There's nothing wrong with anything they said and you're trying to deflect by saying they're a "warm" character as if that's justification.

"Sad?" That's a bit unfair. I personally believe Gladio looks ridiculous with an all leather suit on and no shirt, but i don't feel the need to complain about it in every thread because I know what it's there for and there's plenty more to talk about. I'm sure Cindy's design has, by itself, derailed and consumed more than one thread, not including threads created specifically to condemn the design. You're free to express your opinion however, wherever and as frequently as you want, of course....But I don't see how me disagreeing with the latter means you can suggest i'm a "sad" individual. What are you even implying here?

But, whatever, no need to harp on it in this specific thread, since the subject does include her render. So, again...sorry, commence with it.

Why did they give Cid dress pants and shoes? It would be 100x better if he had blue jeans and boots on. And of course Cindy is a pathetic design that shouldn't exist in a brand as prolific as FF.

There's absolutely appropriate times and places for sexy outfits in my book!

... I'm just not convinced the mechanic shop is one, at least in a game about hardships experienced when you're sent on a quest to try and overturn the rule of an oppressive empire that just did a hostile take over of your country. Maybe in something else that's not so concerned about self-seriousness, but basically a stripper outfit at a mechanic shop, and the game isn't lampooning a concept or trying to be sold with a feeling of easy-going, raunchy fun? Eh...
There's a connection there. She's Daisy Duke.

Southern accent + knowledge of cars + sexy outfit. She definitely has a precedent in American pop culture.

Actually I'm surprised how few people mention this obvious influence on the character.

I'm surprised someone is citing pop culture precedent as justification when the rise of the movement is a long-building reaction and analysis of the problems with many cultural precedents...

... Daisy Duke is very likely problematic in the eyes of many that would agree... A sign of sort of the casual acceptance of male-dominated culture of the past.

I was pointing out what the character archetype is.

I'm not at all interested in your opinion about whether it's okay or not.

And I technically wasn't at all interested in being quoted as a hand-off to the discussion point of how Cindy is an existing Daisy Duke-esque archetype, so if you didn't want my opinion on whether or not it's okay, don't try to use my point as a starting off point to discussing how that archetype is awesome.

She isn't Daisy Duke, a waitress from a late 70's to early to mid 80's American TV show; She's Cindy, a working professional mechanic in a 2016 Japanese Role Playing Game.

I think his point is that the vitrol pointed to Cindy has gotten boring and annoying. None of us really think her outfit fits, but when you see the same comments over and over again, it becomes boring.

And your point rings rather hollow considering that Quite, an objectively worse character, hasn't gotten nearly as much shit and has basically been forgotten into the ether (though to be fair, quite DID get lots of shit. My point is that Cindy seems to be getting more shit for despite being LESS sexualized and pandering).

Lets not forget that Cindy tends to get brought up by some gaf members just as a sort of "gut punch" whenever something good happens just to shit on people's parades. "there's a good thing happening in a trailer, the game is improving all most fronts, and people are happy; better talk about how shitty Cindy is and spew doom and gloom)
I think you're the one who is missing the point, and so is everyone else.

What you guys are basically suggesting is that "you should stop whining about this, because we're tired of hearing about it", using dismissive terms like "it's boring", "it's whining", "it's been a long time already" on the issue of female representation, as if it's something that has been wholly fixed and doesn't bear constant repeating to hammer the idea home. Would you do that, for instance, if people criticized a horrible representation of a particular race? Decide for them that it's time for them to stop criticizing racial stereotypes or characters or general awfulness?

Or is Cindy okay because it's just a "super hot" object to look at, and we're really tired of you women whining about this? Or is it that you want people to stop properly pointing out every time the indignities of Cindy's design because my goodness, you're bored? Or is it that it's annoying to the people who hype this game that there is persistent and rightful criticism of a bad part that the developers refused to change even though their track record indicates they change character designs discriminately for their 'whining' male audience but not for their 'whining' female one?

Pivoting to "Quiet didn't receive this much complaint!" is a whataboutism. You're saying that because there wasn't an equal amount of criticism about Quiet, then continued criticism about Cindy is invalid.

There is nothing old or tired about criticizing bad female representation in an industry that is still struggling to do better with female characters. What you are basically suggesting is that this criticism is inconvenient and annoying to you and your hype, so therefore it's hollow and should stop or disappear. Yeah, we get it, women asking for better is whining.

The fact that this thread is titled "New super hot Final Fantasy XV CG character renders (Cidney, Iris, etc.)" should tell you that yes, the issue still needs to be brought up and discussed and players do need to be reminded about how bad the female character design of Cindy is. Take a look at the posts in this thread and ask yourself again if this issue doesn't have to be taken to task.

There isn't much to add on the 'yep, Cindy's design' front, except it's a shame that every mechanic that's ever worked on my cars didn't pose like that with a wrench for me. (Especially the 50 year-old plus dudes. Work it, gents.) I'm still thoroughly amused by Tabta's previous 'she's actually not meant to be an erotic character' comment. Yes, very 'cheerful and active'. Very. Uh-huh. I do really like elements of her design, though. Her face/hair, jacket, and hat are great. I love the boots, they're just silly for a mechanic. I like the render outside of her pose, as someone said above, the pink throughout the various pieces of clothing look great.

(I'm happy to go with the localized name on this one, as 'Cidney' never stops looking extremely odd. 'Sydney' wouldn't have worked for the Cid reference, so Cindy's a good compromise.)

Every time Cindy appears.

I mean, her tits are literally popping out in that render. FFS.

Ha! In the case of Cindy, replace 'plot' with 'cheerful and active'!

I have to admit, I almost - almost-almost-almost-almost - prefer Cindy's design over Iris'. Choker, unnecessary belts x2, belt chain, tartan skirt, combat boots, wrist tie. Noooooo. I know it's a fashion trend, both in Japan and overseas - I guess it's kinda goth - but, urrgh. Despite the hideous outfit, at least it's still practical.

On a positive note, it's great to see more character renders! Cor looks fantastic, and I hadn't picked up on all the extra detain on Ravus' boots previously.

Gladio's default outfit is hilarious awful, we need to start a support group condemning its hilarity. (It's a shame, his Brotherhood outfits are great.) I do know what you mean about thread derailing, but I think due to the pose they specifically chose for Cindy's render, it's kind of hard for the discussion not to come up again. I think it'd be a strong thread derail if it was in the Omen trailer thread, but considering the render, it seems a bit more related.

Ash Ketchum sure is looking good these days...

Why would you say this.

Anyways let's focus on something that's NOT Cindy for once.

I hate the endless Cindy talk, but I don't think people bringing Chocolina up every time helps either. Chocolina doesn't look as stupid in the context. Cindy's design is unnecessary. Chocolina is absurd just like the game wants she to be.

Sure I fully get (and agree to varying extents) with you guys. Totally.
I guess my point was more about a select few member who were pretty much only ever negative about the game (which is fine, that's an opinion, whatever) and were constantly using Cindy to fuel that ad nauseam.

Kinda like how people constantly get on Ishida's back about being far too hyped on the game, but reverse

(Once again, just so its clear, I don't like her outfit either and wish it was different. I really don't like it either, it doesn't fit)
I guess I get how constant extreme negativity could get tiring. I just resent the dismissals consisting of nothing more than "whining" and "get over it"; reeks of opinion allergy (not talking about you, here). Like, there's something really, really ironic with...

I was pointing out what the character archetype is.

There's something really, really ironic with quoting someone with something that's tangentially related, then lashing out with "I don't care what you have to say" when that person replied back in the context of their original point. This after "whining" about whiners.

I stopped following coverage of this game a while ago and wondered if Cor was no longer in it. Then I saw an image of him in the OP and that makes me really happy :)

the overdesign of final fantasy characters is a classic staple. All I see is those damn belt buckles. so many attachments and things on them. It wouldn't be final fantasy without it. But I think a game like Final Fantasy 10 has aged poorly save Auron. I dislike the design and their cloth of everyone. Particularly Titus.

Watch Kingsglaive.
Not till I get it with my UCE!

I'm sorry but I can't wrap my head around why you think Chocolina gets a pass or why her design isn't as ridiculous as Cindy. But I told myself I wouldn't get into this so I'll agree to disagree.

I really hope that when FF XV eventually comes to PC, that the VR experience comes along with it.

Yes, just for the Cidney part.

You okay? You two are acting really passionate about this.

Just irked. Got a hostile response when I was being implicated by way of being quoted, didn't feel like just letting it go. Letting it go now, though.

Apologies to BocoDragon if it was similar instinct that drove his response after my initial reply. No harm done on my end, no grudge being held.

I keep thinking with every FF game, "this will be the FF that I get back into the series with" but there is nothing about the modern games that look or feel like the games I grew up with.

Thank goodness for the Bravely Default series.

I really like all of these designs, save Cidney. I'm still a little disappointed in Aranea's outfit too. That image of her, Ravus, and that other dude really highlights how much better their outfits are than hers.

There is a pic flying around somewhere (can't find it right now) about how there are many many things that are still very much like the classic Final Fantasy.

But that discussion is for another day.
