So Smash 4 Switch will include every character from the WiiU/3DS game + the DLC characters, every stage, a couple new stages, and the Inklings, the Rabbids, and Ice Climbers? Sign me up!

Also this RPG looks cool I guess.

am I dead and is this hell

e: also, good luck trying to sell a XCOM-like strategical RPG to the same audience that actually likes those freaking rabbits

You never know though. People said an online shooter, but with a Nickalodeon aesthetic for the Wii U would be a huge bomb.

Wat.

I'm in for tactical RPG goodness and Mario, but... Wouldn't it have been enough to let Ubi develop it? The Rabbids are kind of unneeded.

So, you think Ubisoft would just develop a game for Nintendo because?

The rabbids series immediately started losing its steam after Travel In Time. Nobody gave a shit about rabbids land or the kinect game. I dont remember anything about Rabbids Go Home either. Ubisoft shoehorned them into TMNT Smash-Up as well.

Rabbids Go Home is one the best games of the last generation and one of the best 3D platformers of all time. Genuinely hilarious.

IDGAF what the haters say.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Hinted At this a bit over the past year

Didn't you say, several months ago, how we would've seen other collaborations between Nintendo and third parties like Hyrule Warriors / LCU / Pokken Tournament? It seems it was partially leading to this :D

P.S. If you needed further confirmation it's actually happening, there you go.

So for now, Koei Tecmo, Bandai Namco and Ubisoft actually developped some sort of crossover between their "style" and a Nintendo IP. I wonder who's next.

Maybe for money? Allowing you to use the Mario franchise to make money seems like a nice deal. But regardless, I guess I thought the Rabbids were done, lol.

Yeah, as legitimately as I hate Rabbids in general (and I was and am a Rayman fan that got really hyped for the idea of Rayman 3 follow-up, so you can imagine how much do I hate them), Rabbids Go Home somehow managed to make itself work for me. Helps that it is more "systematic" instead of a collection of moments that I find not impressive at all, I guess.

Disclaimer: this has nothing to do with sales potential etc., just my perception of the game itself and the series itself.

It's gonna be open world isn't it?

I've actually been thinking about how an open world turn based strategy game could be developed but that type of game is very ambitious and I'm sure Ubisoft has a budget that prevents this from being feasible. I'll be satisfied if in the Rabbids tradition it's a unique party game and does for the genre what Smash contributed to fighting games.

Even if this doesn't end up being very good, I hope this is an indication of the types of collaborations Nintendo is seeking with third parties. Stuff that by its nature is exclusive, and not just a watered down port of a multiplatform game.

Such a weird image, X-Com Mario RPG with Rabbids. I wonder if it'll actually have much of a story.

Ubisoft isn't some mid-tier developer who needs to work for others lol.

Ubisoft wants to boost the Rabbids, Nintendo wants exclusive content. If this project turns out successful it could be really important for both companies. Imagine Nintendo characters in the Rabbids TV show, imagine Ubisoft helping Nintendo to start their own TV show.

I could actually see this collab coming along during / thanks to the long running partnership that started exactly with rabbids from outher space / alien from outher space / zombi u

We heard this rumor before here
http://www.inquisitr.com/3596334/new-nintendo-nx-rumor-system-connects-similar-to-chromcast/

A lot of the stuff in that link is true, but some of it is not like the chromcast thing for NX, but who knows maybe it will have something like that announced in Jan.

But for me is the fact that it says Splinter Cell is coming also

"Ubisoft is said to be working on Beyond Good and Evil 2 which has been in the news lately as well as Splinter Cell and a possible crossover with Rabbids and Yoshi."

If they unveil the new Splinter Cell at the Switch presentation Jan 12th I will freak out

I forgot about that rumor. I hope this iteration of Splinter Cell interests their fans and convinces them to consider the Wii U.

I still think the other possible game from Ubi apart just dance, rabbids kingdom and hopefully Bg&e2, col be a multiplatform game, but I bet more on For honor than Splinter cell

Il they are actually developing ALL these titles, instead, well once again Nintendo fans please all hail the king of third parties in the Nintendo neighborough

I hope the tactical/strategic stuff doesn't mean it's just a series of battle scenarios like jSRPGs, I like exploring worlds and a game consisting only of battles is the antithesis to that.

Well i'm happy they are finally lending out their IP's to other devs. They should have done that waaaaaaaaaaay earlier.

It sounds crazy but a new Mario rpg? Hell yes!
I hope Rayman appears in the game.

Agreed, I'm interested to see how this plays out. I hope the game isn't too kid focused a la Yoshi games and instead all ages like Mario RPG was.

Hope this is also the first of many games using Nintendo's IP but developed elsewhere

Damn that's specific. I really hope the dongle is (also) true, I would much prefer using just that instead of trying to reach into a cupboard and blindly cram a Switch somewhere into the console every time you get home.

You forgot Atlus (TMS)
Yeah rounding it up all the IP crossovers I can think of;

Spike Chunsoft
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series (GBA, DS, Wii, 3DS)

Square Enix
Itadaki Street Dragon Quest & Super Mario (DS, Wii)

Sega
Mario & Sonic Olympics series (Wii, DS, 3DS, Wii U, AC)

Koei Tecmo
Pokémon Conquest (DS)
Hyrule Warriors (Wii U, 3DS)

Gungho
Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Edition (3DS)

Bandai Namco
Pokkén Tournament (AC, Wii U)

Atlus
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Wii U)

Ubisoft
Super Mario X Rabbids RPG (Switch)

A western developed Mario game? I'm deeply skeptical. The precedents haven't been pretty: Mario is Missing, etc.

When I heard the rumor of it being XCOM like, this is sort of the aesthetic that sprang to mind. I couldn't imagine Mario shooting a gun, but a kinda campy 50's sci-fi ray gun? Possibly.
I don't know if Mario will be a playable character. It sounds like Yoshi will be the star.

The game really needs an art-style like this in Ubi-art. It's a shame we're likely going to get either the Mario and Luigi style (which is good, but nothing new) or the generic 3D-render style. I'd love to see the Mario universe with a brand new more Western style to it.

The game is fully developped by Ubisoft, I don't see why they would use anything else than their own, western engine.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

yea, amongst other things. i heard about this one a really long time ago, probably multiple e3s. either was in planning for a long time or was originally a 3DS collab in early phases.
Rabbids is still pretty popular in Europe

Which Ubi engine are you expecting? UbiArt or a 3D one? Or something else entirely? From how the game has been described I wasn't sure UbiArt was likely -- though I imagine it could look amazing in that engine.

Can't say I'm too thrilled about this being the crossover game. Rabbids are to the Rayman franchise as Minions are to the Despicable Me franchise. They're somewhat funny/entertaining at first, then extraordinarily annoying as they proceed to yell nonsense words and inject themselves into everything.
