The Last of Us Part II announced

I love when people who are worse storytellers than Neil Druckmann's shits call the entire paper-thin story based on a trailer with two lines of dialogue.

Please accept that you have no idea what's going to happen, and you couldn't possibly come up with something as good. Relax and enjoy the experience when it comes.

I am the only one that thinks bringing those two back is a terrible idea. Their story ended so beautifully.

Also they seem to be doubling down on the whole "Joel and Ellie: Homicidal duo" thing.

A little confused I Didn't get a chance to play the first but I watched a play through on YouTube and I could have sworn I remember the dude Joel(?) dying.

Crossing Eden

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
That shows that interesting scenarios can be brought without having to kill anyone, you got to play as Ellie and still got all of their interesting interactions after Winter. That's much better than killing him off.
Yes they can but I find it less interesting that Joel survived something so killing than Ellie finding the fireflies on her own and not having her agency taken away from her by a selfish bastard, bright side it, it'll be a lot more satisfying if and when Joel dies.

The only game in which I feel like I have a strong connection with the characters...I'm crying 😭😭😭😭

Ellie, my ride or die is alive..all grown up...my sis is all grown up...I'm jusT...

...Sony ..ND....I hate y'all for real...I hate y'all for this

You know, I was one of those people who didn't see much need for a sequel, but now that it's happening, I'm excited as hell. There's a lot of potential. And honestly, my heart wants Joel to redeem himself. ND has the opportunity to really take an honest look at masculinity, male violence, and fatherhood here. Joel, out of his own fragility, killed dozens of innocent people, ignored Ellie's choice to die, lied to Ellie, and robbed the planet of a potential cure. If ND can find a way to write an authentic and appropriate story of healing and reconciliation here, it could be as stunning and impactful as the original game was, not to mention groundbreaking material for video games as a storytelling medium.

And yet it still handles narrative better than TLOU, because the characters actually face some consequences for one.
I would dispute the idea that The Walking Dead handles narrative that well to begin with, because the consequences are precisely not that important, and are trivialized by their frequency. I'm frankly too lazy to make the argument myself, so I'll quote this because it sums up my frustration with the show, and with so many other shows:
For instance, the biggest offender is probably The Walking Dead. Never has a show felt so structured like classic pornography. The zombie scenes and dramatic use of violence are frequently great and viscerally compelling, but every dialogue scene just feels like vague conversations with nonsensical philosophical under-pinnings. Seriously, the biggest topic is how the characters are waiting around to be eaten. Heck, the only time it mined any non-zombie threat-based drama was when the human characters were more cartoonishly evil than the zombies themselves. And the plots would just wade on forever.

And it's the reason Hulk couldn't make it through the first three seasons of that particular show. But it's emblematic of the wheel-spinning of so many other shows too.
Again, killing characters is not the only way to inspire character consequences and growth, nor is it even necessarily the most reliable.
This is part of the reason why TW3's story is so lauded, because of how many consequences the cast faces for what happens. So like even if there's a happy ending, that at least the characters went through some shit.
I'm not sure how you get to the end of The Last of Us and thing there aren't consequences for what has happened.
Like, there's not a single moment in TLOU that's as compelling to watch as the simple shootout scene in Breaking Bad.
It was my mistake to bring up Breaking Bad, because it's one of the few shoes that manages to handle character deaths and drama in general with absolute appropriateness throughout the show. I don't think anyone reasonable is claiming that The Last of Us has drama on par with Breaking Bad.
Yes they do, all the time.
Some schmuck on GAF doesn't prove your point if you're trying to have a serious discussion. Some schmucks claim stupid shit all the time.
Maybe don't have characters constantly warning the MC that his actions will come back to bite him at some point while he says "nah" and then the MC ends up right despite being so reckless and stupid in his decision making.
Literally how pulp action flicks usually work. The action heroes are coated in plot armor, that doesn't really mean anything to me when I'm along to watch a silly action story unfold.

Sick crystal ball bro, let me get a chance with it next.

You're still wrong, by the way. Some stories don't need continuing and some are hurt by it - this was one of them. If you think that "time has passed so not everything is explained" in any way addresses concerns you've completely misunderstood.

Should have gone with new characters but consumer recognition and marketing demands we keep the old guard.

Used that crystal immediately I see.

TLOU absolutely didn't need a sequel. Time to milk the franchise I guess.

Nauseating hyperbole

Sorry, but lol

I remember being super apprehensive abt it when the game was revealed. A 'post-apocalyptic stealth horror escort mission-esque' game? By ND? Eh...

Hah. Look at me now.

I remember too,but with all my attentions on GTA V back in 2013,I only played the Last of Us in November, only because the season awards was coming and I read a lot of people saying it was game of the year,I remember thinking "come on,can't be better than GTAV" so I bought and I was totally wrong,is my Game of all Time.

I've never quite loved a story game like this before. I'll never understand uncharteds massive love because it's always been good but I don't like the characters or storytelling, and I can't get into games like witcher or any other rich character driven game

Last of us was so special. No game this gen or last made me care about the characters like that. I never realized how much I wanted to see these two again. U guys were right, I'm not ready for new characters

And I wish Joel was more iconic. He resembles someone like rick and is just such a badass hunk. I'm so excited to just hear his voice. I love it so much.

Naughty Dog should turn to scanning after this game. Their character models look cartoonish in comparison to the Reedus and Mikkelsen character models from the Death Stranding trailers.

That's their design. Uncharted an TLOU always had a mild stylised/cartoonish look. It can actually help avoiding some 'uncanney valley' moments as well.

I always thought they would treat this as an anthology rather than a contiguous series. Interested to see what the plot is. First game was amazing.

I was really hoping for a new story with new characters but, after seeing Joel and Ellie once again I can't help but be massively excited. Like being reunited with a couple of old friends I was just beaming when Ellie started singing. I really do trust Naughty Dog not to fuck this up. Truthfully I was a bit emotional at the end.
