Yes they can but I find it less interesting that Joel survived something so killing than Ellie finding the fireflies on her own and not having her agency taken away from her by a selfish bastard, bright side it, it'll be a lot more satisfying if and when Joel dies. That shows that interesting scenarios can be brought without having to kill anyone, you got to play as Ellie and still got all of their interesting interactions after Winter. That's much better than killing him off.
"You know, Joel, we really are the last of us Part II"
The only game in which I feel like I have a strong connection with the characters...I'm crying 😭😭😭😭
Ellie, my ride or die is alive..all grown up...my sis is all grown up...I'm jusT...
...Sony ..ND....I hate y'all for real...I hate y'all for this
A little confused I Didn't get a chance to play the first but I watched a play through on YouTube and I could have sworn I remember the dude Joel(?) dying.
I would dispute the idea that The Walking Dead handles narrative that well to begin with, because the consequences are precisely not that important, and are trivialized by their frequency. I'm frankly too lazy to make the argument myself, so I'll quote this because it sums up my frustration with the show, and with so many other shows:And yet it still handles narrative better than TLOU, because the characters actually face some consequences for one.
Again, killing characters is not the only way to inspire character consequences and growth, nor is it even necessarily the most reliable. For instance, the biggest offender is probably The Walking Dead. Never has a show felt so structured like classic pornography. The zombie scenes and dramatic use of violence are frequently great and viscerally compelling, but every dialogue scene just feels like vague conversations with nonsensical philosophical under-pinnings. Seriously, the biggest topic is how the characters are waiting around to be eaten. Heck, the only time it mined any non-zombie threat-based drama was when the human characters were more cartoonishly evil than the zombies themselves. And the plots would just wade on forever.
And it's the reason Hulk couldn't make it through the first three seasons of that particular show. But it's emblematic of the wheel-spinning of so many other shows too.
I'm not sure how you get to the end of The Last of Us and thing there aren't consequences for what has happened. This is part of the reason why TW3's story is so lauded, because of how many consequences the cast faces for what happens. So like even if there's a happy ending, that at least the characters went through some shit.
It was my mistake to bring up Breaking Bad, because it's one of the few shoes that manages to handle character deaths and drama in general with absolute appropriateness throughout the show. I don't think anyone reasonable is claiming that The Last of Us has drama on par with Breaking Bad.Like, there's not a single moment in TLOU that's as compelling to watch as the simple shootout scene in Breaking Bad.
Some schmuck on GAF doesn't prove your point if you're trying to have a serious discussion. Some schmucks claim stupid shit all the time.Yes they do, all the time.
Literally how pulp action flicks usually work. The action heroes are coated in plot armor, that doesn't really mean anything to me when I'm along to watch a silly action story unfold.Maybe don't have characters constantly warning the MC that his actions will come back to bite him at some point while he says "nah" and then the MC ends up right despite being so reckless and stupid in his decision making.
PopGaf escaped its containment threadWat.
Woah. Wonder why they dropped the megaton now instead of E3.
So unnecessary. Like a sequel to Casablanca.

Not interested. Elle doesnt even look like ellen page anymore.
That too but Sony wants money.

Sick crystal ball bro, let me get a chance with it next.
You're still wrong, by the way. Some stories don't need continuing and some are hurt by it - this was one of them. If you think that "time has passed so not everything is explained" in any way addresses concerns you've completely misunderstood.
Should have gone with new characters but consumer recognition and marketing demands we keep the old guard.
TLOU absolutely didn't need a sequel. Time to milk the franchise I guess.
Ugh not ellie and Joel again

I honestly can't tell when GAF is joking sometimes. Not interested. Elle doesnt even look like ellen page anymore.
Real: Shawn James & The Shapeshifters - Through The Valleywhat song was that ? is it a real song ?
Someone get the containment field lit up please.PopGaf escaped its containment thread
What's so megaton about this? You knew they were totally going to make a sequel to this game.
I remember being super apprehensive abt it when the game was revealed. A 'post-apocalyptic stealth horror escort mission-esque' game? By ND? Eh...
Hah. Look at me now.
Ah my apologies. You're right. Cheers.
I honestly can't tell when GAF is joking sometimes.
Naughty Dog should turn to scanning after this game. Their character models look cartoonish in comparison to the Reedus and Mikkelsen character models from the Death Stranding trailers.
Seems like a shity idea using the same characters. Or just lazy.
That too but Sony wants money.
I wonder how many people will work 80+ hour weeks and get shitcanned after this one ships.
