I love everyone who's like just watch it on social media the next day.

Does anyone understand whats at stake for this console? Like you think they are going to have a presentation for launch in america?

I don't think so, so much is riding on this, like they have to nail price, the launch lineup, and show how the system works aka online, on the go, multiplayer all that.

Fate is against me.

First vacation my wife and I are taking on our own without kids to Vegas lands on January 12th. This was planned before the Switch Presentation date. Now it looks like I will be flying as the presentation is going on. I so wanted to see this streamed live and jump around like a giddy little school girl.

I guess as long as I can get my preorder in at some point, I'll be happy. It better not open up the day we leave lol...

"Fate is against me" he screams, shaking his fist as he boards the flight to a lavish and romantic vacation that many only dream of.

They release games on Sundays, this conference should have been on a Sunday afternoon. 11PM is ridiculous.

For fuck's sake Nintendo, you're actually going to do this presentation at 11 at night? When most people have to work in the morning? Most likely entirely in Japanese?

This is why people think you're out of touch with the Western gamer. When Sony has a press event, they do it at a reasonable time, IN ENGLISH, IN AMERICA, like at PSX. They UNDERSTAND that the Western market is the biggest for gaming. It's been 20 years and you still haven't gotten the memo.

America, fuck yeah!

lol

This has to be parody, right?

YUP!

And people defending it are ignorant to what the other companies have done successfully for their launches.

But it's nintendo so people need to chill and just wait for social media to get their hand on it right?

Fuck, 2AM for me, no way I will stay late for this.

I was thinking of taking the day off on the 12th, but I should take 13th off and watch the recording first thing in the morning...

11pm?

Jesus.

So I heard someone say they are doing separate events for US/EU in their respected time zones is this true?

Also I hope they nail this. They have one chance, everything is riding on this one presentation to sell us a switch.

I doubt it, since all regions are pushing this event.

and knowing those things LIVE will change it? no.

if you watch it live or not those things will not change.

i'm actually not expecting a whole lot from this. lots of fodder for forum discussion with the price tag alone but i'm guessing we'll see mario, zelda, a few first party wildcards like metroid, a few third party wildcards like dark souls

big deal but not a big big deal. i'm waiting on E3 for the crazy stuff

When's the last time you bought a Nintendo game? They release things on Fridays. It's been that way for a while now.

Once again, this isn't just a direct. This is a live, in-person, media and press event. They would get a much weaker turnout and it'd be a major dick move to get those members of the media to work on a sunday. Certainly wouldn't be the best path to good publicity. This stuff doesn't revolve around you guys.

...and that information suddenly goes away after the conference? Will Nintendo just not talk about the Switch or post any articles/videos showing its various features after it? None of the things they have to "nail" require a live event to be shown off.

Really?

Impact is more important than the info. ANd having this not be watchable by a lot of people because of the times means many publications wont have write ups or impressions with info till next day or later. Which means people wont be talking on those publication websites/forums.

There's a reason E3, PSX, Playstation reveal February 2013, even Microsoft's horror story in May actually gained tons of mainstream media.

Because people were all able to watch it press/hardcore, some stores even stream those events, I know my bestbuy and Gamestop did.

Your trying to sell this thing, and buzz, talk when it's live, or right after usually creates noise that travels fast.

So you would deny that having the events Microsoft, Sony had during the reasonable times didn't contribute to anything? Like early buzz talk before articles and previews of the vents were put up didn't add to the hype?

I still can't believe that 50 million people watched the PS4 reveal LIVE! It was on all the major news networks around the globe. Outside of that event, no one would have even known the PS4 existed!

If they go simple for the launch and crazy for E3, it better be a crazy "simple" then...

I laughed at that.
Better, they should have the show only for America. Let's go farther, only sell the system in America.

Dude... the presentation is in Japan, yes... But both the EU and US have their own hands-on press events during normal times for their respective regions. That's where press coverage for your area will come from. The presentation is marketing speak that could literally come from a press release, the actual hands-on time is what they want outlets to talk about.

This makes sense now, I was confused on someone who mentioned it earlier.

Are there any sites where you can bookmark a page where they will post a spoiler-free link to the presentation video once it's up? MacRumors does this for Apple events and it's useful for people like yourself who want to enjoy the presentation experience rather than just read the headlines/"spoil" it for yourself.

There has usually been a thread like that on GAF for major events like this one.

And? How does any of what you said hinge on the ability of one's timing to watch it live or a few hours later?

That is true, and they will definitely allocate a certain amount of units for online pre-orders. However, ordering online through Gamestop is IMO literally the worst way to buy just about any game or system. I've never ordered through their site and received a product on launch day, regardless of how much you spend on shipping. If they have limited stock for online pre-orders, they fullfill them in the order in which they were received. This means that I could order a Switch tonight and later find out that I won't get it for weeks after launch.

The only thing I'm not sure of is "when" Gamestop does online pre-orders. Do they allocate X amount of product for online orders and throw them up whenever? Or... do they wait until the start of business the following day?

I've never had a problem preordering from gamestop.com. Anytime I've had to order or preorder from there, it always went smoothly and my order would arrive without any problems.

I usually order from Amazon, but gamestop.com isn't bad either. I do steer clear of their stores however lol.

I think you should take a step back. Think the big picture here. Those who watch and attend such events are not the market. It matter very little (if at all) what time it happens on.

What is important is to make the info available for the mass media. They are the source of millions of people world wide. A simple online stream only covers a fraction of their user base.

Good, this means that I shouldn't have to miss more than one day of work as by that time the kids will be in bed and I can watch at 11 pm.

I have no proof, but am going to assume preorders will start that Friday at at least some retailers.

Being part of the conversation is huge while the event is going on. How busy are APPLE reveals when they do break downs of live shows on social media/news outlets as it's happening in real-time with the chats going nuts.

That's why every year the audience that watch E3, PSX, Apple reveals Microsoft reveals grow and have millions just watching, chatting, talking in threads. That bleeds over for next couple days while publications get articles up with write ups about the event or hand on impressions.

In what countries does Nintendo release games on a Sunday? I know they used to do that in the U.S., but long since have been releasing new games/systems on Fridays.

so you are telling me that the switch trailer generated buzz because it really didnt say anything?

No it said what the device looked like and how you could use it in certain scenario's. But the trailer can only do so much.

Do you think having info on the device, or having a small presentation going over bullet points would add to the buzz?
