Dragon Quest XI screenshots and information

Weird both games share the same story

Would have been reasonable to have the 3ds one have some different thing centered on the 2d/3d change

Also to encourage double dipping

No info on the battle system for the PS4 version?

I hope this is the start of a new trilogy, now that they have a great and fast engine and many assets already done with XI, i guess they'd be able to put out a XII and a XIII much quicker.

I would be up for this but don't know whether I would want direct sequels with the same party or same universe with a new generation per game. Hope the engine is used more this gen because they've nailed the dq visuals on the console.

I'll be really sad if this game isnt traditional turned based.

It's technically turn based. It will likely be the same battle system as DQX, aka you can move freely around the enemies (in a delimited area) and you have to stop and use the menu to attack. It's turn based but with more incentive in the positioning.

The 3DS version will simply be the old turn-based system tho.

I've been looking forward to this game more than any other, I really hope they haven't done that with the combat

It's not that hard to find higher res screenshots.

You can still see bad compression, especially on the hair.

Always interesting how Akira Toriyama went from cute chubby characters of the first three games to muscular hunks and then later bishies.

Assuming this makes it to the US (pathetic that it's even a concern), this will likely be the game that compels me to finally get a PS4.

16-yo unexperienced boy with a great destiny
female childhood friend
a peaceful hometown
veteran dude with a strong sense of justice

Wow they couldn't be any more generic if they wanted to

He means that they're developping a PS4 version with the west in mind. He's not wrong, SE want to makes DQ bigger in the west.

Considering how long and loudly we had to yell for 3DS DQ 7/8 to come to the west, and that DQX looks permanently lost to us, SE has a funny way of demonstrating this.

Of course, if true I'm concerned that attempts to "westernize" future DQ games will result in the removal of what makes the series great.

The issue with DQVII and VIII is the 3DS. Square Enix has no confidence in the system in the west. DQX is an MMO which would be very costly.

Looks awesome. Can't wait. I really like the colourful character designs, waiting on the official reveal for the Jester and Monk.

I've been reading on reports that the whole "Upper Screen 3D and Lower Screen 2D" is just for the first part of the 3DS game and that you later chose between the two. That kinda sucks if true ): What would they even use the second screen for then?

It's true, but you can change anytime going to a specific place

Watch the female be the true reincarnation of the Hero and needs to give up her life to save the world instead of the male guy. A stunning plot twist ending

hehe joking.

So excited for this game! Looks like a grand traditional JRPG.

Square Enix might show you how by not releasing the 3ds one outside of Japan.

Or the Switch version has all 3...somehow.

If it's the same story with all of the characters, dialogue and etc. being the same I don't see why they wouldn't release it overseas...as digital only, probably.

HD version still doesn't look right to me. It's like...half-cartoony/half-generic

If Switch gets a PS4 port, I'm so getting this.

Otherwise I might get it on PS4 down the line, but I have too much to play there as it is...

I have kind of a crazy prediction.

The switch port in japan will be the HD version, that way nintendo gets both the 2d,3d, and HD versions.

But in the west i think the switch will get the 2d version, the 3ds might be dead in the west by the time this game gets localized. So if western gamers want the hd version they go with ps4, if they want the old school version they get the switch.

I've never played a DQ game (have 8 on my phone but can't stand playing games on my phone), but the PS4 artstyle is insanely good. I'm definitely giving this a shot.

Why does Dragon Quest gets it so right whilst Final Fantasy does seem like a mess nowadays? Dragon Quest might be the only JRPG that remained true to its roots all that time...

Because DQ development is still headed by the same people as the first game unlike FF

Because creators of FF got a delusion that it needs to reinvent the ENTIRE wheel every time...rather than just the setting/era/technology/growth system that FFI-X did.

Now they feel like they need to change the gameplay and game design every game (alongside all the aforementioned elements) which is silly. This led to lengthy engine development and a lot of time wasted experimenting rather than focussing on just improving on what was a perfect formula.

Because DQ is a series that takes no risks? It's playing it safe 101.
I appreciate FF when it tries something new, even if it fails often.
Not every JRPG series needs to stay classic.
