What cancelled/unreleased game intrigues you the most?

Looking for meaning in GAF
Not sure how much this counts, but I would have loved to see what Zero Escape 3 was originally intended to be, had they got funding for it right away. Before the creator lost interest in the original story and wrote Zero Time Dilemma instead.

Silent Hills looked to be awesome and I'd love to have seen what Kojima, Del Toro, and Ito would have done with the mythos. Death Stranding's trailers are so unnerving and brilliant that it actually makes the cancellation hurt more.

Prey 2, the bounty hunter version, sounded amazing too. Wish that didn't get cancelled but Arkane's Prey is shaping up to be a cool spritiual successor to sci-fi horror.

There was a cancelled Wii Fire Emblem that was shelved for Shadow Dragon of all things. It looked like they were going to try to incorporate RTS elements of all things which isn't my cup of tea but if anything could have gotten me on board with RTS games, it would have been Fire Emblem.

Golden Sun 4 never started development but I still want that story to be finished, dammit.

That open-world Flash game by Bottle Rocket was probably too ambitious but I still would have loved to see it released. Flash needs more love :(

And Whore of the Orient was cancelled, right? I loved L.A. Noire but I knew not to hold my breath for McNamara's next game. Especially with a title like that.

Also what about games that were released, but quickly recalled and never released again?

For example, Primal Rage 2:

One game that always intrigued me was Project Jelena by Crytek.

Concept art made it look like it Last of Us meet STALKER.

Really wish this was the direction they went in after Crysis 1.

Metroid Dread. All we basically have is a name, but at some point Nintendo was going to release a 2D Metroid for the DS that followed up Fusion. Instead, they made Other M.

....
The DS still supported FMV and voice acting so Dread probably would have been bad anyways.

Eight Days was a strange one that got cancelled with how close it was to release.

Hrmmm... the prototype for Eight Days looked awesome, but I never saw any evidence that Eight Days was actually close to release. Sony Europe kept showing car deformation demos and exploding gas tanks, and run/cover animation cycles leaked, but no gameplay demos of Eight Days or Getaway PS3 were ever described/leaked, and there's still not confirmation of how close to the sizzle reel trailer the team actually was. So unfortunately, I don't think Eight Days was anywhere near close to release.

Primal Rage 2 was never fully finished though, was it? As far as I know it never saw a release of any kind.

Not finished/balanced, but it did get to a playable point, I believe I tried a mostly-playable build of it at California Extreme. I believe you're right that gfxtwin is offtrack about Primal Rage 2 being "recalled", I'm not sure it was even test-marketed though cabinets do exist.

Kirby Gamecube. While a lot of its concepts no-doubt ended up in Return to Dream Land, I would have loved to see a new Kirby with helpers and the Broom ability.

The Metroid 2 remake that was proposed by Retro Studios. While we now obvious have (had, thanks Nintendo) AM2R, Retro has proved there ability to make a killer 2D sidescroller with DKCR and I would love to see their take on remaking Metroid 2.

And on the topic of fangames that were taken down, I would have loved to see the future development of both AM2R and Project M. The former was supposed to have additional content at some point, adding onto an already great game, and PM was going to have newcomers including Knuckles and Lyn. It would have been great to see those come to fruition.

Most of all, though, I would love to peek into a universe where the Nintendo deal for the rights to Harry Potter went through. Imagine how much different the perception of those characters would be, and how neat the games might have been. And Harry Potter probably would have been in Super Smash Bros., which is just crazy to think about.

I'm still kind of mad about Star Wars: First Assault.

I guess Battlefront is pretty close, but this looked like a tighter experience.

This game honestly wasn't worth it, but still not bad. I really want that Battlefront III PC Build that I know exists out there.

Might as well add Dead Island 2 to this list as it's going to be on the verge of cancellation.

Prey 2 looked amazing. It's a shame the Prey reboot doesn't seem to interest me so much. B.C. looked really interesting but I can understand how technology at the time couldn't live up to it. Real shame Lionhead didn't want to give it another go.

The Alternate Reality sequels, you'd find these portals to the other games when playing The City, but only The Dungeon ever got released.

I want to make a Prey 2 video happen at some point. Lots of red tape in the way though. Even if the developers help me out some more, the likelihood of the video living to see a full day is quite low.

I just rewatched Prey 2 video and I am still impressed because even today we don't have an FPS game of this scope out there. Some pointers:

1) Open sandbox with multiple explorable hubs
2) Parkour System
3) The sheer amount of engagement options available (shoot while hanging and parkour, cover system, use any NPC as shield, 20 gadgets, possible multiple paths due to the way game world was designed)
4) Shooting looked satisfying due to great audio visual feedback
5) Choices in how to approach and finish missions (at one point you had the option of capturing g or letting go of a bounty, after capturing you had another option available to send it to contractor or interrogate for further information leading to additional quests)

Eventhough these elements were seen in other games individually...the fact that all of this was in one game was what made it impressive...Along with the cool cyberpunk aesthetics.

Then there is Prey 2017, which is just another spiritual successor to the System Shock game...which is good and still better than almost everything out there in FPS market but at the end of the day...nothing new (conceptually).

Sonic X-treme. The perspective is really cool and the level design that was shown looked amazing and ripped for exploration. The ambitions of the game too, like the knuckles levels and the new characters levels being completely different styles of game play makes me cream wishing it really existed. It was pretty much Sonic Adventure before Sonic Adventure in terms of scope.

You are the one who made that Until Dawn PS3 video right?

Yea as I said previously...I'd love to see it but I doubt Bethesda will cough up anything about it since it'll officially reveal/confirm the shady stuff they did and it'd be pretty hard to talk about Prey 2 without dwelling into that.

Prey 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned were ones that I was completely ready to buy. But sadly they're gone now :(

The new Prey looks lame like that one XCOM FPS reveal that looked bad and turned into that 3rd person game.

Earthbound 64 sounds like an insane game to me. I want to see that what they had done so bad.
Silent Hills I just wanted to play.

Yep. Prey 2 is just a mess. Bethesda wont say anything to me unless I anger them :p

As a longtime fan of White Wolf's World of Darkness, and in particular their Werewolf line, I was excited to see what Werewolf: The Apocalypse - the Heart of Gaia would bring.

There's not much but a few screenshots and cutscenes to see of it today.

Recently I also learned of a brawler type game developed by Capcom set in the WtA line, but similarly it was abandoned.

Prey 2: The Thread

Open world Bladerunner bounty hunting game. Much like how people cursed Fox for dropping Firefly people will curse Bethesda for doing shady shit no matter how much they deny it and blame the "quality" of the tittle as justification.

This game would have been undoubtedly a masterpiece with amazing visuals for its time, great art design and gameplay...and it's something that everyone knew...including Bethesda.

I would love for Unseen64 to do a detailed piece on this but I doubt Bethesda will ever cough up anything about this fuck up.

Sadness

The topic says "game". Not "some Polish guy's epic elaborate troll".

I'm pretty sure there was a couple gameplay videos that came out years ago. One was a gameplay/tech demo of an all white girl holding a flower that emitted light walking around a mostly black area. And here's this supposed gameplay footage of someone playing a game that looked like an early version of a woman holding a boys hand through a tunnel area.

Maybe those were both fake or of different games, I don't know how much of the game was actually made.

Winter for the Wii. Looked like it could have potentially been an interesting horror game.

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet:

The World Ends With You sequel

In 2012, a Square Enix countdown went up on the official TWEWY website. It looked like it would be a sequel, then there were leaks that it was not. They turned out to be correct: it was a mobile port and special soundtrack release. There was a lot of disappointment there, but then after the credits in the secret ending on the mobile version, the above image was shown.

This character was a new one, and the was also the "new 7 days". After four years, nothing has materialized at all, and the sequel was rumored to be cancelled. At this point that is exactly what I think is the case.

Half life 3 is the real answer, but I should mention these:

Silent Hills of course.
Timesplitters 4
The xbox/ps2 South Park game
The early prototypes of resident evil 4
Coded arms assault
Factor 5's second ps3 game
Free radical's Battlefront 3 (yes I know it was broken)
Eyedentify
