What kills this is the price point. If the price point was good i could see myself buying this for my nieces and nephews.

But $300? really? With some peripherals going for $70 a pop? No thanks.

50M LTD. I'm much more positive than Wii U on this one and feel it will be more profitable than 3DS.

Edit: On second thought the lack of free online and the launch price won't help. 35M when all is said and done.

Before the presentation i'd have said yes, it looked like Nintendo were coming back.

Now I'd say probably not, but there's a chance games like Pokemon Stars and a price drop could make it a success.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Yes, a moderate success for 2 reasons:

1. Steady stream of first-party software eliminating droughts.

2. SCDs are assuredly coming (my guess is 2018) and will boost the power over time.

Also, I feel like 1, 2 Switch is going to end up big like Wii Sports if marketed correctly. There is absolutely nothing on the market like it.

Depends on how often and what Nintendo moneyhats. If they buy the exclusivity of big deal games, people will buy this regardless of price.

Oh, and Pokémon.

I'm sticking by my inital prediction. Switch will do modestly well, enough to be considered a success, but because it isn't a Wii level success/helps nintendo win the "console war"/doesn't get a new metriod game or whatever game fanboys want, GAF will continue to spin it as a failure and continue the Nintendoom/should go third party arguements.

At the current pricing and announced lineup, not a snowballs chance in hell.

I wish I didn't think that, but with what they showed so far today, it ain't happening.

Absolutely best case scenario, I think 30m units.

Price, poor launch line-up, poor post launch line-up, features not fully there at launch, pay for online, expensive controllers, poor value for money etc.

Yep, all this. It all combines for a clusterfuck of a situation that honestly makes you wonder if Nintendo isn't a floundering company at war with itself for them to come up with.....this, after leaving the Wii U to rot for 2 years.

Judging from that presentation last night, my guess is that it's going to be a colossal flop - at least at the beginning. Between the price, launch lineup, and specs, there's absolutely nothing enticing about it besides Zelda. It's pathetic at this point that Nintendo still continues not to get it. I see no reason why someone wouldn't choose a PS4/Xbox One + mobile gaming over something with 2.5-3 hour battery life on the go with higher end games.

Also people saying it's not going to be $300 forever - the Wii U sold horribly and did they ever drop the price? I know they had bundles, but did the standalone console ever drop in price besides getting one refurbished?

No chance, it's not a pack in. It also seems like it can be easily copied using smartphones.

If it was a pack-in. It would be well received. Never Wii Sports level, but could attract a certain market. But an extra £50 for it...that cuts it short. Markets won't respond to £320 to play that.

It'll do as well as the Wii U.

Nintendo fans will love it, they buy anything Nintendo put out.

It won't attract new customers.

It's nothing more than a shitty attempt to milk diehard Nintendo-Fans/NintendoGAF. Will lean more towards Wii U sales than 3DS. They've done fucked it up...

It's gonna fail because Nintendo is making all the same mistakes it has been making for 15 years. Hopefully the last console they'll make.

Too many things working against it. A loss of trust and respect for Nintendo after 10 years of shit. A completely inane pricing model and generally bad decisions doesn't help it either.

I get a "Now your WiiU is portable" -vibe.
They threw their console- and hh-market together and then priced the device out of the hh-market (and put the cherry "Online fee" on top).

Does his best thinking in the flying car
price will go down eventually so yes I think it will be a success mainly because I think its the 3ds successor
there is a very hardcore nintendo crowd that will gobble up the little units they have at launch. the real question is will it have mass market appeal at holiday 2017

oh, I agree, the people who were going to buy it no matter what still will. I think both of us are wondering about everybody else.

With this price, underwhelming launch lineup (aside from Zelda), poor 3rd party support, underpowered specs (compared to competitors), it's gonna be hard sell for many, I'm afraid.

Initial launch window will be fine and after that I think it will go the 3DS route, meaning poor sales until a significant price change (and new Pokémon) will turn the tables. I think because of it's portable aspects, it will at the very least have a larger crowd than the WiiU (and GC). This machine will probably do fine in Japan as well due to that. But yes, the pricepoint is disappointing.

Holla at me when the Switch is $250 which at this point, it feels like it was definitely designed to be. The console itself isn't worth the price but they put so much into the controller to justify this....it's insane and I really do wish the best for Nintendo but I'm gonna pass.

Only if they would relaunch the thing during the holidays at a lower price but I'm sure that, even then, the price of the games and accessories is not going to sit well with a lot of parents and casuals so the impulse buy Christmas gift angle is out of the question, I'm afraid.

I think it'll do better than Wii U but not by much.

Why did you not focus on price and simplicity Nintendo? Why did you have to resurrect all the waggle from Wii's times? Without that shit the switch would've cost 250 at most and the joycons 25 a piece. People would've bought them without hesitation. Now it's this thing that ends up costing as much as a ps4 pro. That's just crazy. Couple that with the TERRIBLE launch line up of games and it is absolutely clear that this console had been rushed as fuck.

I think that will depend on what they are going to show at E3.

If they make up on their 3rd party promise and announce a bunch of new 1st and 2th party titles, yes it will do well.

If not, WiiU all over again.

After this morning I have to say no and that really is disappointing. I want it to do well but I'd say it's dead in the water. The price is expensive (£280/$300!!), it has abysmal battery life (2.5-6hrs), and the launch games are dreadful. The only game I would buy is Zelda. I just can't see many people dropping that amount of money for any of the announced games.

The price to me isn't much of an issue. I could live with the poor battery life. But I am not going to buy a GAMING device when it has only 1 game I am interested in. I was looking forward to Mario but Odyssey looks awful. If we get a Pokemon game it will probably be just similar to Sun/Moon and I am already playing that. I don't see myself getting a Switch for a long time.

It's 100 more than a 3DS XL. It's going to do just fine, it's an on the go system with home console graphics that can be hooked up to your TV. I think it's going to do well.

Reminds me a lot of the 3DS when it launched.. came out about $50 too expensive and received a price cut fairly quickly.. that said the paid multiplayer is going to really hurt adoption I think.. Microsoft started this trend but had a network that was heaps better than the competition, Sony only started charging after proving themselves for years and catching up to Microsoft, but Nintendo really feels like they have no business putting a paywall on their network which is a decade behind the competition..
