Probably allows the CPU to run at 2,1GHz. Not sure if they can utilize the extras CUs for games not programmed for it, but there's a possibility. Or they can boost the GPU/VRAM clock speeds.
And the GPU to run at the slightly faster clock speed as well. This will be amazing for witches 3!

This is a game changer for me . Probably pick up a pro now
Same here, this is THE reason to buy it imo, 4K is cool and all but framerate is more important for me and to not have to beg the devs to unlock the power is just awesome.

Yeah, don't really mind about 4K (give me 1080/60 all day over 4K / 30 ) but consistent frame rates ?? Yes please !

I expected it at first, before the details on how the Beast (Pro) handled unpatched games was out. Actually complained a lot that they tried to get us to buy a $399 hardware upgrade and then leave it up to the devs if we would get an upgrade or not. But it was so long ago that it still feels unexpected to get this boost and I'm super hyped right now!

I don't have PS+, is there an easy way to transfer saves from a launch PS4 to a Beast without moving the physical HDD? some kind of transfer mode available like with Nintendo hardware? Connecting two consoles through USB or wi-fi? USB memory transfer?

Nine out of ten orphans can't tell the difference.
Damn, woke up and thread got another 2.5K posts!

Super glad Bloodborne is apparently smoother and loads faster (frame pacing notwithstanding). Also JC3 and TW3 wohoo!

Any word on Dark Souls 3?

LOL @Etta....Preach it son, preach it. Good job Sony...Great for you Pro owners with older titles. For games that this feature breaks, it "might" force the devs to patch up...might get a few more sales out of it...Could also see devs of older titles do a quick and dirty patch on games that we're/are 30 fps locked....Interesting times ahead i think...

Wtf is this? I'd get one just to run vanilla games in boost mode.

Seriously WTF.

Sony right now:

Seems to be exactly what this is. Good on Sony, made no sense that this wasn't the case.

They let us wish and wax on about a universal performance improvement and had us all believing they were so conservative about compatibility... Just to stealth drop this.

I think this may be intentional.

Seriously, this is a system selling feature, this is EXACTLY what I wanted! I'm oh so ready to jump in now, got tons of games I haven't finished yet so this will be the perfect time to go back and enjoy those games to the fullest.

so is this a 'run at your own risk' type thing?

any potential to damage your pro
Nah if there were risk of hardware failure there's no chance Sony would allow it, I'm guessing it could crash your game or maybe graphical glitches, there's no chance it would lead to hardware issues.

So anyone know the most FPS hitting areas of The Witcher 3? I know certain parts of Novigrad and the Crookbag Bog but not sure what else...

I want to make a comparison video.

Will also take requests for comparison videos of Boost Mode if I have the game.

No damage to the pro as it only runs at the settings pro patched games enable.

For any games that are reliant on the cache / memory timings in the OG PS4 the mode will break them but they seem very few and far between.

EDIT: By break them I do not mean will not run but could cause graphical glitches or strange engine issues. Kind of like Quake 3 where the physics was tied to framerate.
