Nami's turn will come next week.

Jojo has bubbles

it lead to a woman shooting a pigeon from her mouth into making a guy eat crow

Yeah, true... remembering this. The night's unofficial theme was bubbles if I remember right.

But are they chakra bubbles? I think not.

Those are the best bubbles! I should know! I'm a bubble expert! :p

Welcome to phrasing

people have this issue
x is awful in a show
y is great in a show

it works if 'x is awful because it hasnt deserved my attention for it yet' but in both gundam and hxh's cases we aren't far enough in to reasonably make such a call

It's always extremes, I guess. Even putting aside my liking for gundam, I feel like both shows are annoying in their own way, but one gets slammed for it, and one gets praised for it. I'll admit I probably can't be 100% without bias, haha.

Comes with the territory of shonen, unless you have clout like dbz

It sure does, but it's always funny to me the late night "adult" audience seems to prefer the more juvenile storytelling style. Not just in here, but also the viewership.

Yeah, because nen actually means something.

I keep hearing this... it hasn't impressed me yet, lol. I will say I find it a bit more interesting than Naruto's over-reliant Eyes or Tailed beast stuff, but I feel like it's easily being oversold so far. It's a good take on the stuff, but not really impressing me so much.

I don't mind Kurapika being one of the 'observant' characters because clearly he's been developed that way as a character (especially in comparison to the other protags), but the "let me explain everything that just happened' structure was pretty blah.

I still think he's a budget Kurama, heh. HxH keeps expecting me to take things to 10, and I keep feeling like I'm seeing things reach a 7.

Something about this show just doesn't gel with me as much as I expect it to. It's frustrating! I wanna like it more!

*~SwIsH!~*

Execution is everything. Most of the technobabble in Gundam is meaningless while the explanations in HxH are actually relevant and actually interesting.

*shrug* They are? Gundam is for Sure convoluted, but that's Gundam. In HxH, week in an out, I feel like... simple things get made to be much cooler than they actually are.

I think it's mostly because gundam talks like you should know this shit, but hunter x hunter, is like of course you don't know this shit scrub lets get you a crash course, but i warn you you still won't know shit.

It's unfair to the US, I guess. I agree with Gundam that it's as much a part of it's (Japanese) audience as things like 80s movie and song references are to the US. Who needs to explain "Newtype", you probably heard an officeman made a reference to it! Just like 60 or 70 year old Americans can reference Superman and know his weakness.

Well, HxH started in 1998, so some of the early stuff has been regurgitated in other shonen manga.

I'm never trying to hold that against it. Though I wonder if it makes me less impressed that I should be. I really wish I saw the, what, 99 series when it was being talked about in Animerica "back in the day" now. I think the "re-interpreted Nostalgia" angle would really help me enjoy it more.

Now back to drawing, lol.
