This Frog boss is kicking my ass thoroughly...need to put the game down for the night, learn some strategies, hit him again tomorrow lol.

That spear is so quick!

After the trouble I've been having with other bosses in the game, the last two have been incredibly easy. The
axe guy on the bridge, and the spider lady were both very simple. Bridge fight I just dodged until I saw an opening, took a few hits and repeat. If he tried to apply buffs I got in 3 quick slashes and backed off.

Spider lady was basically, run left around her until she does her grab move, then attack the tail.
I know the difficulty is going to ramp up again but damn it felt good to beat bosses on the first try.

This is the exact opposite of me. I find Nioh to be way more manageable than any Souls game yet. Have you tried levelling up more before trying the boss again? The one trick that has made all bosses manageable for me, so far, is that you can actually run around a boss while being locked on to the boss (I'm sure a lot of people here already know this already). I try to get 1 or 2 hits before I start to run around. I'm not very good at these types of games, but this tactic has served its purpose thus far.

Will grinding make much of a difference in this game? I know that usually it doesn't in a Souls game. Right now I'm using primarily Uchigatanas and spears; what categories should I be pumping points into?

I got the boss down to a sliver of heath two times and I get caught in a combo. I wish I could go in with more healing items but that would require more grinding as well.

Also, with the first boss, which stance is usually best? I go in with the low stance and that's what I've had the most success with. Every attempt where I almost had him killed I used an axe weapon on low stance so I could dodge more effectively.

I've got a pretty good mixed set that is romping right now. Some good axes including a multi-skilled Kaido Axe and with that Kara-Jishi guardian with skill drain, lightning onmyo when desired. In the mix, a couple forged up pieces from the preorder Crimson Sanada just happened to help keep me at 68 percent or so along with a couple Exceptional pieces. Plus I remodeled a helmet into the red-eyed mask thing, made the Exceptional armguards look like the golden Nioh guards...and it all looks like an intimidating mess lol.

Sometimes taking a break from the game for a night helps immensely. I took him down after my third try with my sword in low stance, no living weapon attacks or sloth spell were used either.

Your best approach is to stay extremely close to him. Evade to the left when he lunges his spear at you and position yourself behind him. You can get about three or four hits in before he'll leap into the air to do a ground pound. Back off while he's about to do so, then get back in there to get another couple of hits on his backside. His second phase is extremely easy. Just keep yourself behind him to avoid any of the projectiles he throws.

Got Horizon this morning, 3 hours in and I just want to play Nioh lol

I want to get Horizon but mainly for the tech; the graphics are jaw-dropping. I really don't think it can compete with Nioh on gameplay for me. So I will pick it up for around 20-30 quid down the line.

Leveling up does make a difference. Also gear is critical. If you have the opportunity to find some nice revenants to collect from it can really give you an edge. Look for revenants with majority purple gear who are as high level as possible and summon them.

I agree with the poster above me. Levelling up and grinding gear makes a HUGE difference.

No stance is "the best" IMO. They all have different uses. If you're low level, the stance that you have the damage buff on ki pulse and ki pulse on dodge upgrades will be the best.

Stance dancing is key. When you get flux, you can keep your stamina crazy high and do essentially infinite combos by swapping stances continuously.

I tend to spend most of my time swapping between mid and low (Katana), because I like to be able to parry, and low has great speed and heaven flash is crazy powerful. I use high stance when I want to do Ki damage.
With spears I switch between high and low the most because I like their move sets. Still, I swap a lot to get the flux and damage bonuses.

Not payed around with the Uchis much as sword is too cool for me to pass on.

Alright just need one more mission to complete to get the platinum.
It's a Twilight mission so I'll first need to wait until it's in the rotation...hopefully tomorrow.

This is easily my favourite game since DS1, loved every second.

Ive hit NG+ a while ago and now interest is waning a lot faster than I thought it would.

I think the loot system has become less interesting, but even so I cant really put my finger on why DS1 kept me playing through 7 MG cycles and this is losing steam before I go through NG+ once. Maybe just need a break or something.

I'm struggling with this too but I haven't finished the game yet. I'm fairly certain I'm close, I'm on a story mission called "The Source of Evil"
where there's a giant enemy in the middle of the level that I need to break crystals to kill or something.

I've never played a game that went from 100 to 0 so fast for me. Up until this last region I was having a ton of fun and it was one of the most fun games I've ever played, but this last region really feels like they turned the annoying factor up to 10 on every single thing. Tons of ranged enemies spotting you while you're already fighting 2-3 guys in close combat, this most recent level seems to have graves that raise without an instrument guy, the damage I receive has gone up tremendously (but perhaps I just need an armor upgrade), the last few bosses have just been annoying rather than fun.

I think some of this has to do with the last region having way more combat against human enemies than yokai (so far). Human enemies are not nearly as fun to fight for me since they just hold block half the time.

Like you said I might just need to take a break and come back to it later. Maybe after Zelda.

Is a Living Warpon build still viable? How do you set it up now?

Ignore that video. It got nerfed.

Use suzaku. Use extraction to gain amrita to GET the LW. Have a few amrita mods on your gear along with some spirit stones and youll have that thing almost all level if you can kill and find guys fast enough. Suzakus recovery is insane.

There are a few passives in the onymo tree that extend LW time. Charms that have durability of LW.
Get those.

I too am not really too interested in playing NG+. I really think it is the low enemy and encounter variety. It feels like you already played through the game bunch of times because of those things even if you get new bosses and level structures.

What levels give onmyo magic points as rewards? A lot gave those 1 point ones, but there were some that gave like the great mage one with 7 or something. Unless those were the dojo missions... I want to stock up on some.

It's BS that you can't max out the onmyo magic tree even after dumping 99 in onmyo skill. Hardest skill points to come by for sure.
Also, no clue where to farm them.

Reached the(maybe) final boss

What a shit.Really?Attacking the necks of some giant snakes? How did anyone think this a good idea?

At this point i think will just abandon the game and maybe beat the final boss after Horizon and Zelda(and Mass Effect and and and...)

It's definitely the most annoying boss of the game, but one tip that really makes it easier is to just hide behind the giant crystals while you catch your breath and add buffs and what not. It also baits them into smashing them, which drains their ki and makes them immobile for like 10 seconds, enough time to kill them.

When should I post the next OT? I don't want to stay up all night waiting for the thread to hit 20k posts. Should I post it later today or tomorrow morning (EU time)?

Technically not the "final" boss.
It makes sense for it to be the boss due to the lore and mythology. Although it was annoying to fight at first but became a breeze once you realize exactly what you have to do in each different stages of that boss fight. It's actually one of the more manageable bosses once it clicks but it does seem fucking crazy at first with all the
serpent heads shooting shit at you

It has slowed down a lot over the last few days, probably no huge rush.

So you think I have time at least until tomorrow? I remember I woke up in the middle of the night today with an anxiety fearing that the thread already reached 20k and people getting mad at me.

OT2's are not that serious, try not to let the anxiety get to you. Even if late by a day or two, it'll be perfectly fine. No worries. :)

How are you guys finding the spirit animals? Is there a full list? I assume some are worthless while others are quite good, so are you guys playing them all or just sticking to a few?

And the #1 complaint I see post-hype is the lack of enemy variety. Is it that disappointing? Figured the combat would more than make up for it

You get all of them by completing all the main missions and side missions. In the mission rewards description, it'll list them there. Here's the full list I believe:
http://nioh.wiki.fextralife.com/Guardian+Spirits
I'm personally sticking to a few and you can later
upgrade them as well to level 30(max) after beating the game.
Lack of enemy variety NG+ is disappointing but the combat still makes it fun to play in coop or solo if you're farming for better gear.

Nah. Doubt this thread will hit 20k by tomorrow (EU time right?). And even if it did it would probably be hunderd posts over or something like that so no biggie.

For some it does for some it doesn't. While I do like the combat I was very bored of fighting the same enemies I've been fighting since mission 1 and 2.

I was a sucker thinking I could beat this in the time window of a rental. I think I'm just a little over half way through (just got to the fifth area), and felt like I've been rushing. I'm going to take the game back today (due tomorrow) and buy it when I grab Horizon. I hope the second half holds up to the brilliance of the first. They really did perfectly blend the best idea of Team Ninja and From. It may not have the same brilliant world art/level design as the Souls games but it excels in enough areas to stand out on its own.

The first few hours of the game i was not really convinced, it looked like a less pretty Souls game. But now i just fell in love, the combat, the skilltree and even the loot system. Cant wait to play it when i get my girlfriend to bed :p

It's less about the enemy variety rather than there being a ton of optional side quests/missions that have the same enemies as main missions. If you stuck on the main missions only at the point where I am every one has at least 1 new enemy and a new boss.

Of course the side quests are worth doing because the rewards are pretty cool.

This is crazy. My Sozasa Monji +7 is just a few points lower than my Sadamune +8, and the latter has Familiarity Damage Bonus on top of the Change Attack to Heart scaling both share. Once I get it to +8 it'll probably hit 1450 or 1460.

Does anyone know of a good place to farm +4 and +5 equipment?

And now I am Nioh. Had to do one mission with NPC to get the Teamwork trophy. 67hours and 730 something deaths. Not sure if I will keep playing this or not. Might get a decent set that is not a Red Demon before stopping entirely.

I think people said the Nioh twins. Tachibana and Honda(?).
