artistic reasons? fast and furious can't go on because they have run out of artistic reasons?

I don't anyone that was planning on watching this movie being deterred by reviews. Shoot, I think it's a bad idea to read the reviews for this in case of spoilers.

This is one of those movies that I expect to be garbage but I'm still going to watch on day 1.

I don't know how to feel about that.

Is it fair to expect at least mediocre art?

No. You can only expect fun.

And fun, as we all know, is 100% distinct from art. The presence of any art in the same place as fun means fun is detracted from. Art is a vampire, and it loves to suck fun out of things, and turn them into undying art, like them.

Art makes fun better with time. They just start copying and pasting art into fun until the fun gets better.

Why are you all pretending that Fast Five through Seven weren't reviewed fairly well?
People always keep pretending dumb fun actions don't get good reviews when their dumb blockbuster doesn't get good reviews. Not necessarily on gaf just something in i notice in general

F4 had a 28% on rotten tomatoes? Wow haha, and here I thought that was the one that really got them back on track. I really enjoyed that one.

People make fun of it.. but 'family' is a huge part of these movies. If the twist goes against that, then I'm probably gonna hate this movie.

Yeah, that's probably a big part of what makes it so appealing to audiences. I hope they didn't lose sight of that.

That aspect of the series was always going to suffer post-7, without Paul Walker.

It would be like trying to make five more seasons of Supernatural without Jenson Ackles.

I've said this in other threads but i'll say it again here. Do NOT let Rotten Tomatoes dictate if a film is "good" or "bad" film. You just can't. For example: Furious 7

233 People decided that %. Two Hundred and thirty three. I'm not saying i agree with that or disagree but i'm not ( and you should not) let 233 people decide if a film is "considered" bad or not.

I'm not saying you can't follow it as a guide but it should never be all end factor of your decision making. Life is better when you make up your own mind.

I doubt this is actually as bad as 2 or 4 were...right?

To each their reach. The Bond film comparisons are a nice guideline. There are people who really, really disliked Spectre, and would say it's as bad/worse than Die Another Day or View to a Kill, even though the larger consensus would probably place it at worst in the middle of the pack.

To a lesser degree, fans did the same to Skyfall (it's a little more pronounced here)

It depends on what you want out of this series. Coherent stuntwork? Physics-defying setpieces? Pro-wrestling style plotlines? All those three at the same time?

If this movie manages to botch any one of these elements (or even all three) then yeah, I can see people putting it down there with 2Fast. Even if it ultimately doesn't "deserve" the comparison, for whatever that's worth.

Seriously though, who honestly thinks this stuff gets posted as an intended replacement for establishing your own opinion via direct experience?

I love fast cars and I love movies, but I have never thought much of the Fast and the Furious movies, I have tried to watch them, but they just don't do anything for me at all.

I think people get all that

NOT LA FAMIGLIA

It remains to be seen how review proof this is. The last three, the ones that were actually really successful, actually reviewed well.

That was Numero cinco.
Cool. I'd never seen any of them, so binge watched the entire series over a week or so last year. It's pretty funny how they changed over time, and how the continuity is sort of messed up (the Tokyo Drift stuff integrates in a super awkward way), but yeah they are dumb fun.

I think I'd like the plots to be simpler, with more of an emphasis on character/dialogue, and I wish the action was a little more coherently shot, but they are enjoyable movies.

I absolutely hated F4. Didn't understand what was happening, didn't care, just waiting for it to end. F5 was fantastic

Fast 5, the Citizen Kane of street racing superhero movies.

That's still the best. F7 was the most emotionally heavy, but that's due to real life. Fast Five is perfect in every way.

Eta- there was just no way the movies were going to be better each and every installment. A "clunker" here and there can be expected.
