Kirby was announced
Yep, but no visuals or even a name. I doubt a multiplayer-focused Kirby game is anything major for Nintendo. Kinda like Zelda Triforce Heroes I guess.

I have no idea how they can get the voice acting in Zelda BOTW so horribly wrong, when they can get the voice acting for ARMS and Splatoon 2 so right, in something as low budget as a Nintendo Direct!

I've had a Switch since day one and it's clearly a handheld (a high end one) with TV out. And there's noting wrong with that, I think it's a smart move for Nintendo to move everything to a handheld given how powerful they can be now (even if I disagree with some of the decisions they made about the Switch).
I even think it's a good idea to keep supporting the 3DS for a year or two (though I think it would be a good idea to port some of their newer 3DS games to the Switch as well if they don't require the duel screens). A year or two more of some 3DS support while people move over to the Switch isn't a bad idea, but they need to move to developing software for only one system as soon as they can so they don't have the issue of software droughts again, especially since it seems like a lot of third parties are hesitant about the Switch.
It was also nice to finally see the two games from THQ Nordic, though no the two I would've picked personally (I've said I'd have rathered deBlob, Darksiders 1, and/or Baja: Edge of Control HD).
Kirby Return To Dreamland was major as was multiplayer focused
It's also eShop-only, so that's already rather telling.

Seriously ? I thought they announced that it was coming to eShop and retail this winter.
The yellow joycons are hideous
The Switch is a hybrid. End of story.
Switch is Nintendo's future. That's clear. But it's obvious that's for now it's the successor to the Wii U. The console Nintendo stopped developing games for. Nintendo needs the 3DS as a cheap entry point for price sensitive consumers. The two consumer groups that are interested in 3DS or Switch are different. Abandoning the 3DS right now would be bad business. It's just that people on a message board don't seem to understand this very basic business decision.
What I dont understand is why 3DS software going forward isnt being made for both systems
I thought that was the whole idea behind the their new philosophy with switch

Maybe they are also creating all the assets in HD in order to release those games at a later date to fill Switch software gaps, don't know. I understand when people say they want every new Nintendo game on Switch, but for some of these games it makes more sense to focus the marketing for the more valuable platform right now, and that's 3DS. Kirby is a super popular franchise on the 3DS. That's where Nintendo makes the most money. That's why their focus is on the 3DS. I don't believe releasing an HD version on Switch at the same time would help them that much.
The philosophy behind Switch was never to make porting 3DS games easy, they talked about being able to port games for platforms on the future architecture, not the current ones. Hopefully this will take the form of full cross compatibility rather than a new system with similar internals but an individual handheld lineup, as I think that would be a mistake.

Just came to the realization that Minecraft is the big game for May.
I don't see how any kid who has Minecraft 3DS would want this game and the platform but if Nintendo is quick to release their media features that makes it a proper alternative to a tablet then it will have the right mix of features to be distinct from the 3DS and a tablet.
It's beyond my imagination how people here can complain about a lack of games and straight out shouting from the rooftops that there is a software drought just like it was on Wii U. Me and my friends with a Switch don't see any issues with the lineup. In fact it's even quite the opposite. People are happy with the lineup.
Most (including me) are still not finished with BotW or finished the story just recently, but there are still sidequests, shrines etc. More than enough to get busy. Plus every week there comes at least one good indie game to Switch. MK8D is soon available, there is Lego City, Street Fighter II is upcoming, Rime etc. etc.
If you're working and maybe have a SO and maybe even one or more kids then the stuff which was released on Switch is more than enough IMHO. I'm for instance still busy with BotW, but already have Fast RMX, Snipperclips, Snake Pass, Shovel Knight and Graceful Explosion Machine. Next week I'll get Wonder Boy and this weeks Mr. Shifty looks interesting, too. See I don't say there shouldn't be more games. More games mean more variety, more options for the consumer, but I think what is currently available and announced for the rest of 2017 already gives a lot of variety and stuff to keep you busy as long as you don't play 24/7 videogames.
I honestly want to know how ppl who are complaining about a software drought live? Not counting that most of those ppl probably have one or more additional consoles or a gaming PC to game on. So what the heck is the problem?
Life is more than gaming. I just can't imagine someone can play THAT much especially since most of the time ppl in general are complaining about huge backlogs instead of too less games to play.
Can't stand the voice of Zelda in BOTW. Really puzzled by the choice.

Thats some weird reasoning and undercutting the potential and momentum of what is still currently a hot item
Maybe these games are just being cheaply and quickly made and not budgeted for cross gen release
Yeah that makes sense.
I can't help to see it as a simplified turfwar from Splatoon, to the point where I think of it as cannibalizing, but please don't trust my judgement.
What makes you think they're not doing that?I've had a Switch since day one and it's clearly a handheld (a high end one) with TV out. With Switch, not with 3DS. If anything, Switch architecture may be more compatible with WiiU.What I dont understand is why 3DS software going forward isnt being made for both systems

Why is this so hard to understand? Switch is not the replacement of the 3DS. It replaces the Wii U.

That's on NoA though, it's top tier everywhere else (and the US one is certainly not as bad as some of you suggest from what i've heard).
But hey people are bitching about XCX's dub, so

To be fair, the 3DS was actually successful. Makes sense to slowly ease out of doing 3DS stuff rather than a hard stop, especially with it having a huge holiday season last year. That plus it's a budget-friendly way into Nintendo games, at least for the time being.Games in development for 3DS: x>0

All sectors? Really? Overwatch, Destiny, Battlefront, Red Dead, Project Cars, etc. What leads you to believe those type of games or anything like them are coming anytime soon? Hope?Def. get the feeling that the floodgate are about to open and alot of content of all kind of sectors might hit Switch....they just need to keep the momentum going for this year and establish the platform.
I'd imagine that Overwatch has some semblance of a chance to come to the Switch, but I doubt that the others will make it. Plus there's still games like Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite & Guilty Gear Xrd: REV 2 that could hit the Switch. All sectors? Really? Publishers have been announcing games all year, I haven't seen any signs to back what you're saying. There have been signs saying the opposite.

Nintendo 2DS costs $80I still think all of these "we keep seeing loads of 3DS exclusive stuff because it has a huge user base and Switch doesn't" type posts are totally disconnected from reality.
PS360 had a huge install base when PS4 and XB1 came out. We didn't get loads of time taken up with PS360 exclusives though, nor did Sony / MS insist on saying over and over "our old consoles are still relevant and they can co exist with the new ones!!"
Just let 3DS quietly fade Nintendo. Release cross generation games like Fire Emblem Warriors etc but don't make a huge deal out of the old version - Sony and MS did this with their new gen: we got Destiny and Dragon Age Inquisition on PS360 a year after PS4 and XB1 launched.
I just cannot fathom:
a) why Nintendo are still marketing 3DS so hard - I mean the first 5 mins or so of that direct was entirely random 3DS stuff.
b) why people are trying to defend it.
I accept that loads of people own 3DS, but that doesn't mean that Nintendo should keep wasting development time and PR time focusing on it - they have a new system, surely to time to move on?

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong the game's amazing and it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. It's just for such a big game it makes you think is that the best you could find for her?
Everytime she pops up it's like here we go again haha

As mentioned before, Nintendo of America doesn't really spend a whole lot on voice acting, with one or two outliers like Kid Icarus: Uprising (because Sakurai). Bill Rogers aside, most of the VAs they hired for BotW were no-name non-union VAs. From a company as big as Nintendo (& as an aspiring actor myself), it's disappointing to see NoA cut corners in this regard. That's on NoA though, it's top tier everywhere else (and the US one is certainly not as bad as some of you suggest from what i've heard).

Now that's not to say that BotW's English voice acting is absolutely god-awful, but it could have been much better if NoA actually put some effort into it like other first party companies. And with BotW being as amazing as it is, the game definitely deserves better on the voice acting front.

Nintendo also had games for the DS in development after the launch of the 3DS. Pretty bad argument.
