Netflix The Witcher TV series in the works (not related to CD Projekt)

yeah, because all Netflix produced shows are so terrible and low quality? /s

Luke Cage post ep 6 kept getting worse and worse. Daredevil s2 was incredibly mediocre compared to 1, terrible writing. Iron Fist was all bad.

Last 3 I watched. I've got Sense8 s2 on my plate next.

Hope it will not end like Witcher the movie :p Nevertheless, great news and a nice cast that gives hope. I will definitely check it out.

I wonder how they'll present the stories - even within the novels, the timeline that the story unfolds is sort of all over the place with quite a heavy reliance on flashbacks.

If they could do the whole of Isle of Thanedd in to Ciri joining The Rats etc. whilst Geralt makes his way through Brokilon Forest. Then colour me excited. They could throw the short stories in as small flashbacks during the downtime.
I hope not. The saga is awful, the short stories are where they should lean on.

9 episodes of Geralt slaying monsters, bandits, running around, and playing Gwent. 1 episode of plot advancement.

So how long until Sapkowski turns on Netflix and blames them for stealing his audienec or something?

Emilia Clarke better be in it!

Why when you can get good actors instead?

Besides, seems like it's going to be CG with Platige Image being involved.

Does Sapkowski has the IP rights now or will he also bitch about this TV series?

It doesn't matter. He will always bitch. He never believed the game will be a success and bitched hard after it did. This time I guess he'll get his cut and that'll make him bitch a little less.

The Marvel shows kinda suck, yeah

I'd add Jessica Jones as well. Incredibly boring.

Awesome! Well hopefully. Not the book i was hoping was gonna be the next to be turned into a tv series but this could work.

Kurwa, great news! Do we know if it will be full CGI or not? Anyway, with Platige Image, we will have great visual effects and it's good to see that Sapkowski will have an eye on the project. Really can't wait to see the result.

Unless they change Geralt dramatically to make him more like in the games, people are going to be seriously disappointed when they find out that book Geralt is a terrible whiner, and even gets called out on it in book 4 I believe.

Also, Sapkowski is working with them. I understand people not reading the article linked in the OP, but not reading even the OP... come on.

My god, I can understand how Sapkowski can get angry.
I'd misread the statement, so it being based on the books makes things better.

However, the original series wasn't too hot despite taking inspiration from the books. I don't remember if it was based on the stories told in the books, though.

To be honest this means nothing and I'm feeling sorry for the whole crew. Sapkowski isn't a saint you know. He has a really bad reputation.

Since they're obviously piggybacking off the popularity of the game, does this mean Andrzej Sapkowski is gonna stop crying?

Probably not..

Will watch it for sure

Funny because

it's all original characters.

In what sense? I know he's been called an a-hole but he seems nice enough to give artists a chance to do more with the world he built.

Game of Thrones ending soon.
Thirst is real for anything Witcher by millions.
This is Netflix, there will be full Yens and Geralts everywhere.
Based on the books, not the games, done by the guys who did TW3's cinematics and are oscar nominated.

This has amazing written all over it, I am speechless.....I am without speech.

Netflix original shows overall have been quite good so I'm hyped. Don't know where this Netflix shows aren't quality has come from.

After watching and loving Marco Polo, I trust Netflix with this.

I just hope production values are higher. Marco Polo is good, but for me it was obvious it could use much more $$$ love production wise.

Also, there is a
huge battle
in the books. This will be hard to show, even game of thrones struggled with such scenes.

Funny because

it's all original characters.

I assume you mean this bit:

“The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world,” said Sean Daniel and Jason Brown. “The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.”

This is a trait of the characters, original as in unique. Doesn't mean they are creating new characters.

Biggest question at the moment is of it will be live-action or animated CGI. I'm fine with both, to be honest.
