We should be making a far bigger shitstorm out of this, in plain sight for Microsoft and Raw Fury.

I want this to get big as a nice The Thing-test to draw out those in the industry that stand with GamerGate.

mfw you make a narrative driven sci-fi game and don't have a basic grasp of the science or social commentary you're choosing to focus on

Frankly, if the game is really still about those things, why the fuck did MS give them that platform?

I already know why

I think ignorance is a plausible excuse. Would they really dredge through this guy's twitter responses and whatever postings he made in assorted holes of the internet?

Maybe they should have, but I wouldn't attribute their actions to knowingly support this guy.

Like... to be clear, I had heard about this game years ago and had been excited for it; I'm not happy to learn this stuff about it. It's really visually appealing and what's been said about the gameplay seems pretty neat. But I'd rather know this and not support the dev than ignore it. His views seemingly influencing the plot/setting to that degree (not that his views wouldn't have an impact no matter what, but this is obviously pretty extreme) means I won't be checking it out in a Humble Bundle or anything like that either.

Every time I see this sort of sentiment about GAF it seems like the people expressing it are bigoted in one way or another. People can be pretty zealous here, and I am not saying I have never rolled my eyes at a GAF barn burning, but I think there are a lot of people here that have pretty sophisticated, nuanced views.

Seems like a pretty ignorant position to take...

GAF seems like an easy target because it's a very liberal gaming forum that is also fairly large. Easier to call us all a hivemind that realize that there are plenty of arguments on politics as is. Hell, we're having people arguing right now on both sides on why they're going to or not going to support the game.

Just saw the politics of the developers and I have now lost all interest. I'm not going to support someone like this

Here is one a month ago, so not like shit has changed:

Ugh. I guess it's just Cuphead that I'm keeping my Xbox One for now.

So like this isn't even a situation where the creator of a great game is shitty, but this seems like a situation where the creator's politics are going to make his game fucking stupid. It's a shame too because I was really looking forward to this game since the first screenshots I saw. I feel like I'll have to play it now out of pure morbid curiosity about how terribly his views taint his game. I'll just have to find a way to do that without giving him a fucking dime.

Oh no, that's not what I mean. I don't expect them to be his twitter parent or anything, I mean if the games themes are still those that he's described, why did that not give them any pause? Surely they've seen extensive amounts of the game.

If I were the writer there is no way in hell I'd be coming back now since it seems like the game's plot deals with these topics and he/she will have to defend the writing of a game that isn't even out against a forum that is very much on the opposite side of what the plot would be.

Looks like it's even worse than that.

I was the one who first posted in the GB thread about it when i saw stuff on Twitter but it was just rumblings; this just keeps escalating beyond what I expected.

Holy fuck that's "special." Is this the first game about how feminism is the ultimate evil that has gotten such a prominent spot on an E3 press conference?

Unfortunate. The game looks interesting, but I'd rather gouge out my own eyes than giving money to a Gamergater. Oh well, life goes on with other good games to play instead.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Oh of course one of the few great looking gems of the conference is being spearheaded by a total fuckwit. Damnit.

The idea that "extreme" anything is something we should strive for seems pretty silly. Even progressiveness and feminism can become extremism. The idea that we should stifle that viewpoint also seems pretty silly. Why? So people can have actual proof of their opinions being censored? Especially before anyone even knows the content of the game.

Beyond any of his stupid personal politics, this makes the game sound dumb as fuck.

Welp, never mind. The concept could have been interesting but this doesn't give me any faith.

I mean I've played and enjoyed things like The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, but even I don't know if I can stomach this one, which is a real shame because it looked really good.

So what if this is still the story of the game lmao. Equality caused dystopia. Fucking hell.

(Unless that was an old game idk)

WOW

I've never had any interest in a game bottom out so hard, so fast before

Here comes the "I'm all for equality and justice...I just don't think women are human beings worthy of respect and attention #egalitarianism #humanism #antiracismisantiwhiteness"

"I read about like.. 3 feminists who had extreme beliefs, therefore I sided with a disingenuous both sides movement that's entire base was founded on toxicity"

I have to wonder about that. Given the responses to the game's visual design I think that much like the response that has garnered, that they didn't look further than that.

His pitch to them also may not have included any of the objectionable stuff. It could also be that the game doesn't actually have any of that stuff prominently highlighted and the guy is just being a dipshit publicly.

yeah even if i put politics aside, seems like the game will be all pretty visuals and no substance if that's what I can expect of its writing.

I'm curious what Microsoft's reaction will be. I can't see them denying the game be released in the platform, but maybe they won't be highlighting it anymore.

Would you buy a game from someone affiliated with an anti-white, anti-men group?

I probably already have, unwittingly.

There are so many people that work on a game, or on a film, or at a retail store. Some of them might be Trump supporters, or anti-feminists, or white supremacists. I have probably helped them get their next paycheck at one point or another, and you probably have too. If you are going to vet the staff of every piece of cultural production you choose to consume to ensure they have appropriately aligned political views, you won't get to consume much.

Hero by Zhang Yimou is one of my favourite films of all time. It can also be interpreted as propaganda for Chinese unification. That doesn't stop it from being a masterpiece of visual storytelling, and it doesn't mean Zhang Yimou is nullified from being held in esteem.

There is something genuinely compelling in the idea of decentralized and unwieldy benevolent progressive-minded oppression in a dystopic setting, but when it's couched in this bullshit? Fuck man, if the game is like how he wanted it to be originally then this is the bluest of blue balls.
