Man, my hype just went from 60 to zero in about 2 seconds. :-(((

I was blown away... even showed my wife the trailer and she was impressed. But I wouldn't touch this with a ten foot pole.

Between this game, Ori 2, Cup Head and Ashen... man, these guys are pushing that bar. Amazing work.

Buying all of them!!

I probably already have, unwittingly.

There are so many people that work on a game, or on a film, or at a retail store. Some of them might be Trump supporters, or anti-feminists, or white supremacists. I have probably helped them get their next paycheck at one point or another, and you probably have too. If you are going to vet the staff of every piece of cultural production you choose to consume to ensure they have appropriately aligned political views, you won't get to consume much.

Hero by Zhang Yimou is one of my favourite films of all time. It can also be interpreted as propaganda for Chinese unification. That doesn't stop it from being a masterpiece of visual storytelling, and it doesn't mean Zhang Yimou is nullified from being held in esteem.

All that time just to call me stupid and a hypocrite with someone else's words.

Beyond any of his stupid personal politics, this makes the game sound dumb as fuck.

Well the couple minutes I had interest in this game were fun.

I mean, I'm willing to put aside some of the idiotic stuff he's said in the past, but I really hope that the story isn't as fucking stupid as he is making it out to be.

A good story is essential in a cyberpunk game.

i wonder how he reconciles it with the general themes of cyberpunk and dystopic societies.

i guess the easy answer is to recast gg and gg-aligned concepts as the victims

I think the premise (if that is still what it is) is hella interesting and I'm curious how they frame it and where they take it.

Some of you should just chill and not be so sensitive, if it turns out you don't like or agree with the notion of the story or it's direction then so be it.

Immediate knee-jerk rejection and outrage is silly. Ease up, people think different things.

like if he didn't have all of these tweets and he just said the plot was about a progressive internet mob mentality creating a new dystopia I would have thought "oh cool. A bit misguided, but maybe it'll be like that Black Mirror episode of the killer robot bees and twitter mobs but in a cyberpunk setting".

But then everything else came out.

If I were the writer there is no way in hell I'd be coming back now since it seems like the game's plot deals with these topics and he/she will have to defend the writing of a game that isn't even out against a forum that is very much on the opposite side of what the plot would be.
he's not coming back - or, well, maybe they could do the selective quoting thing for a while
bit of a shame, he might be a decent person? As a side note, I doubt MS would spotlight this game if any of this gender-dystopia stuff is still prominently featured. But those story concepts, yikes

WTF @ his tweet history and the games "inspiration". gross.

That said, still going to buy it, I'm kind of curious to see how the hell he explains the jump from third wave feminism to a blade runner future.

We are on the timeline that a gamergator made a game about how "radical feminism" won and destroyed life as we know.

You don't have to thoroughly scrutinize the production staff of everything to notice one obvious instance and say "Fuck off, I am not going to pay you."

Spare me the "Ah, but to be consistent you must X Y Z" business. I'm saying what I'm going to do in this situation.

there's a difference between "hey the sound mixer for that movie you bought tickets for two weeks ago was a piece of shit" and "hey the creator of this narrative-driven, sci-fi game from a small team is focusing on his shitty beliefs as the draw of the game"

That's why you let the artists do the work for you and reveal their views of their own volition!

He supported a hate movement that targeted and hurt people. He says similar themes to that movement are in his game.

This stuff isn't rocket science.

Game looks amazing. Great to see it finally getting the spotlight after following it for years. Personally, I don't give a shit what his opinions are. I just want a really cool game. If you can't separate him from the game, that's fine, but killing this thread with all that discussion is a shame.

I find the premise interesting, i dont get why people are so mad about it. People have different opinions, plot might suck but might be an interesting view. People react really fast without having no idea about the plot.
The art looks fantastic, who knows about the gameplay tho.

Not sure if either of you saw the updates recently but here you go. Even if you can do the separation of creation and creator thing (something which seems to be completely forgotten when talking about Gearbox games given how Randy Pitchford seems to be brought up every time), the views of the creator are clearly affecting the quality of the product.

"You should chill. People are allowed to think you don't deserve an equal existence. Sure that might have consequences on rates of violence against you, but is it really that bad?"

This is what you said.

1) bashing feminism is borderline in terms of "opinion I don't agree with", we're not talking about favorite consoles here

2) Not only is it cyberpunk IP which historically is all about science (which he is ignorant and wrong on) and social commentary (which he is ignorant and wrong on) and a "cinematic platformer" which means its main draw will be the narrative, he also already revealed the story of the game.

Yeah, sure, you can't vet everything and sometimes things you enjoy are made by people you'd rather not support. But that doesn't mean it's inherently flawed to not want to give money to someone with atrocious views when you hear about them.

Defending women is politics now.

Speaking on the behalf of other human beings' existences is considered a "difference of opinion" now.

Probably why I didn't say that either.

I'm saying those who had interest that now suddenly don't because the premise surrounds a view they might disagree with (and likely don't even fully understand how they do, especially considering they don't even know the story) is extreme and over-the-top, and overly sensitive.

Flipping out over tweets? I mean seriously, overreactions and simplifications like this are so pointless, childish and just perpetuate problems.

If someone with ideas that are shown to be dumb and poorly thought out makes a product, I believe it is safe to harbor doubts about how dumb and poorly thought out the product might be. Especially in the arts where the personal affectations of the creator can come through. I'm not boycotting it so much as I have lost all my excitement. Why would I waste time on this when I can play any number of other similar games that are probably written much better?

The game prominently features his views. How do we separate?
