Vox: Bernie Sanders is the Democrats’ real 2020 frontrunner

The schadenfreude-iest part of me wants him to get the nomination and lose to Trump just so I can shove it in the face of my obnoxious friend who kept insisting "Bernie would've beaten Trump easily!"

Who won once running unopposed and got side swiped, currently holds no office and does some random news show or something.

All she did was ramble on twitter about how the DNC took out Sanders and killed America or something.

Yea, she's an idiot and shows no qualities for running for POTUS.

She is woefully unqualified for the position. Its also very clear why brogressives are trying to prop her up.

I don't imagine Bernie will run again, but the Progressive heads like Nina, Bernie, etc, will probably hoist up a new candidate that supports the Bernie platform to run. Because right now, if the Dems run another bullshit corporatist candidate, they'll get their clocks cleaned in 2020. It'll be an even EASIER election to win in 2020 that 2016 was. Don't run Booker because his Pharma ties will bite him in the ass in the Primaries. I would have thought Warren would be good, but she warmed the bench in 2015/2016, which pissed off the Bernie camp quite a bit (and her defense of Joe Manchin on TYT stung a little too). Gilibrand is Hillary lite, Biden would be a powerhouse, but he's also another Obama on that spectrum, which could be bad.

Right now, Democrats are failing HARD. They need to shut the fuck up about Russia, get in on Single Payer (which is becoming overwhelmingly popular, even among conservative voters, and I imagine will continue that trend once Trump destroys ACA and takes us back to the Wild West).

Pelosi and Perez need to scram. (The Bernie Unity tour was a goddamn joke). Yes. Pelosi. BYE. When you lose over 1000 seats nationwide, and bring in the lowest contributions to the party in a in a long time, and been on a sharp decline in popularity over the last 4-8 years, it's time to do something different. The party is in SHAMBLES, and the DNC along with party talking heads want to stay the status quo course. THAT will give us 4 more years of Trump.

Something something Definition of insanity.

My guess- if Bernie doesn't run, the Progressives might look to Tulsi Gabbard. She's pretty good outsider of her Islam criticism and her odd history of nationalism which will probably be hit hard, especially in the Primary.

The man's going to be like 80, can you really not see how that might be too old for the planet's most stressful job? The job ages people, look at Obama's before and after.

I agree he is old but it not like he would be running against someone in their 40's

Well hopefully Trump is out or doesn't seek re-election but whatever.

In theory yes it would be better to run someone younger against old Cheeto, but who? Propose someone better. I'm all for it.

Franken would be an interesting pick because he's pretty funny and has some charisma (which help with casual voters), plus he could play the angle of not being a traditional career politician

Trump left a trail of traditional politicians in his wake because they didn't know how to properly counter his stupid attacks and petty nicknames.

Franken has a sharp wit combined with, by 2020, two terms as a decent and serious Senator. He has both the showman chops and the policy chops.

The only problem is he might not actually want to be president.

I don't see it. I think he'll step back and be more of a mentor role unless the crop of candidates really sucks.

From what I've been following I think Gillibrand would be a decent candidate..but that would be just that, a "decent candidate".

He's not a great speaker, but his message is really on point. He exudes a level of genuine decency and compassion that might end up making him very palatable at a time when brash personalities dominate politics.

Moreover, he speaks about pie-in-the-sky liberal ideas with the same level of optimism that Trump had when he spoke about the dream initiatives of hardline conservatives.

A guy that used his billions of buy a spot of land in Hawaii and then built a wall just to keep out any Hawaiian natives from even getting near it, liberals would definitely go for a guy like that.

Who won once running unopposed and got side swiped for her second election bid, currently holds no office and does some random news show or something.

You mean she lost to big money while running for Secretary of State? sure. Has nothing to do with her ability to energize Americans with her message.

TheLostBigBoss said:
All she did was ramble on twitter about how the DNC took out Sanders and killed America or something.

Same ramblings some of our best intellectuals also profess:

Chomsky: The Sanders campaign showed that a candidate with mildly progressive (basically New Deal) programs could win the nomination, maybe the election, even without the backing of the major funders or any media support. There's good reason to suppose that Sanders would have won the nomination had it not been for shenanigans of the Obama-Clinton party managers. He is now the most popular political figure in the country by a large margin.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/05/opinion/noam-chomsky-on-trump-and-the-state-of-the-union.html

Yea, she's an idiot and shows no qualities for running for POTUS.

I don't want cult of personalities to be President, unlike you.

Did you vote for the Clinton cult of personality? Bernie Sanders supporters have the cult of PRINCIPLES, such as we must have a fair economy and a fair society for all. Bernie has a following because he has been GENUINE about these principles throughout his political life. DNC corporate parrots have abandoned these principles, which is why they have been losing ground for 30+ years.

Oh boy, the Berniebros are at it again.

If y'all can't give this shit up, Trump is guaranteed to win in 2020. And I think some of you secretly want that.

Zuckerberg wouldn't be a great president, but ...

He competes well with some Trump assumptions.

1) "He's successful and runs a business he can run a country!"

2) He's an "outside."

3) He's a "self-starter"

In addition, while he might not pass the purity test that many progressives apply he would:

1) Likely surround himself with intelligent and progressively minded people.

2) Be a decent human to people.

3) At least consider moving the needle forward on race, environmental issues, etc.

4) Catalyze a number of young people.

I'm not rooting for him by any means, but I could see him being somewhat viable.

Oh boy, the Berniebros are at it again.

This is disgustingly sexist. The median Sanders voter was a woman, but thanks for erasing their political voice by assuming the default Sanders vote was male.

Generally such a candidate doesn't emerge until before/during the primaries!

It really bubbles to the surface then, but we already knew Obama was a star in the party when he spoke at the 2004 convention. Does the party currently have someone comparable to that right now? Someone that's known far more on a state level, but people that follow politics closely know that they're going to be a force on the national stage when they're ready. Because we don't need another repeat of what happened last year. A situation where the Democrats had eight fucking years to find a successor to Obama and the best they could come up with was Clinton. What the hell was the party doing that whole time? Especially since they'd lost the house and senate, so it's not like the were running shit with ease.

I guess one good sign is that it seems that Tim Kaine's name is no longer being floated. The idea that anyone could think he'd be a good candidate is mind boggling.

I think if Bernie runs in 2020, Dems are gonna lose again. Man's messaging is ass when it comes minority voters and issues.

Zuckerburg is far too shady a person, him getting the nomination would be a nightmare.

And it's time to move on from Bernie. A repeat of 2016 with him dividing the democratic vote again terrifies me.

Right, I don't have any principles.

You are totally right, and you don't sound like an obsessed fanboy freaking out because Sanders anointed Turner or something.

Actually, I don't really care. I'm so over talking about this shit and fighting with such an unimportant part of the population that gushes over "true liberals" or what ever.

Have fun writing a manifesto over random people who don't actually matter in the world of politics and are the equivalent to high school crushes being viewed as perfect gods and goddesses who have divine PRINCIPLES or something.

The pro-Clinton media made sure Bernie supporters were painted as white angry Berniebros throwing chairs. It stuck.

This is part of what Bernie supporters mean when they say the media colluded with the Clinton campaign to placate his movement and rise in popularity. It's what corporations and their candidates do when an anti-corporate champion is gaining momentum.

There's only one legitimate choice for 2020.

It's Martin O'Malley. It was Martin O'Malley in 2016 too but he wasn't part of a dynasty and he wasn't magic grandpa with the big pockets promising his grandkids the world without acknowledging the realities of making that happen.

If you want to win back the White House, you need a scandal-free candidate that can reach those in the middle and even those on the right. What's the worse thing that you can say about my main man here? The Maryland rain tax? Big fucking deal.

HOT O'MALLEY FACTS FOR YA ASS:

- Ended the death penalty in Maryland
- Supports raising the minimum wage to $15, signed legislation to raise Maryland minimum wage to $10.10 in 2018.
- Legalized gay marriage in Maryland in 2012
- Supports gun control. Passed a law which among many things includes banning gun ownership by Maryland residents who have been involuntarily committed to a mental health facility.
- Plays the guitar and is pretty good at it. Remember when Bill Clinton played the saxophone and people were all wild for a bit of big willy? Yeah. It's time to join the O'Malley March.
- Reduced infant mortality and crime. HE DID BOTH BECAUSE HE PAYS ATTENTION TO THE FACTS. REAL, MOTHERFUCKING FACTS.
- Brought Maryland to the highest median household income in America
- Maryland schools were ranked NUMBER ONE in the beautiful country we all love for FIVE STRAIGHT YEARS. Maryland had the highest number of high school graduates in the country. None of this "everyone passes with C's bullshit, real ass successful children.

I could go on and on but this is the guy to rally behind. It's time to win. It's time to bring this country back to where Obama was trying to lead it. It's time for Martin O'Malley.

Tim Kaine's name was only ever being floated by the far left as a boogeyman.

Totally worth the continued downfall of a nation.

She doesn't have PRINCIPLES or whatever.

The fact that people like Jimmy Dore are against Kamala just solidifies my support for her.

What ARE her principles? I could go down the list for Nina Turner, but not for Kamala (other than she is a strong woman not afraid to throw punches). Maybe we could start a head to head comparison.

Dem shoulders doe lol.

I did think O'Malley was cool. I especially liked his stance on clean energy. Big ups to him. That said, Hillary's tenure and Bernie's populism pretty much sucked up any traction he had early on.
O'Malley has the charisma of a rock. So, no, he may make a fine president but he'd be a poor candidate.
This. He seemed too soft. If Bernie and Trump showed us anything, is that populism is important, better or worse.

Thats a damn shame

It sucks we only had Bernie and Hillary last time

Hoping for a more robust contest this time

Who do we have thats willing to wade into the fire?

wishes it were bannable to say mean things about Marvel
O'Malley was a good candidate in 2016 too, he just got overshadowed and very few people knew much about him. A 2020 O'Malley backed by Bernie would probably be a very serious contender. I like him and think he'd do a great job as President.

Same. Has there been any more recent talk about her running?
All you're going to get is talk from random places and people. No one is going to announce their intention to run until at least early 2019. You need to give Trump time to marinate in his shit.
