what would be so bad for players if nintendo sold the DLC standalone without the amiibo? like for a fraction of what the statues cost.
Difficulty modes behind a paywall is still bad. Yes, even if it's Nintendo.

They did it with Zelda:BotW, so they are no strangers to it.Difficulty modes behind a paywall is still bad. Yes, even if it's Nintendo.
Why does Nintendo keep attaching onerous shit to the metroid franchise? Do they want it to fail?
For me, I found that only Smash Bros did amiibos right.Question: At which point can Amiibo owners enjoy some extra perks without everyone else b!tching what is "locked" behind Amiibo?
For the record, I don't own a single Amiibo, but this attitude is somewhat annoying(much like port begging is annoying). I have yet to see any decent Amiibo content that people haven't cried about. So it's a genuine question. What are Amiibo owners allowed to have for their investment?! Nothing at all? Or just nothing worthwhile?
$15 for meaningless content will never make sense. You're advocating for Nintendo to be the most expensive peddler of DLC in the business.
Jesus Christ.
Buy the fucking stuff if you want it, if you don't it, don't buy it.
All this stuff about boycotting products that you want or buying products that you don't want just to send some kind of message to the manufacturer is just so self-important. It does not matter.
Now imagine Prime 4 amiibo-locked content.

The thing I don't get is that the game was never advertised as having these extra features in the first place, and people are canceling preorders because now it doesn't include features they were going to buy the game without anyway...
I mean, I'm probably not going to buy the Amiibos, and I'm going to enjoy the game as much as I planned to when they first announced it. Yes, it's kind of terrible that they didn't include these features for free, but it's far from a dealbreaker for me.
Even if i don't own a 3DS i think that this is a bad move from Nintendo.
I still want the new Samus Amiibo because it looks cool. I hope it will unlock a godmode for Prime 4 or something.
Or a Varia Power Suit skin for Fallout 4 Switch.
HAL does amiibo well. Costumes/cheats is all they lock behind.
Prime 4 will have a Stylux Amiibo that unlocks Stylux mode where you play as Stylux hunting Samus and will be a special premium 20$ super rare limited edition Amiibo.
I think cheats and spoofy costumes are the only things I'm cool with. If the Bayo amiibo unlocked Bayo-Link in BotW, that would give the amiibo-buyer a perk, and it would be something that the BotW-buyer would never have any presumption of receiving normally in the game.
Good, my MP4 game can go untainted by that garbage tier 'character'.
Is this a Fusion suit like in the original prime? If Hard mode is there, just without the Fusion suit I don't care. Considering most 3DS don't even have an NFC reader, locking so much behind amiibo is balls
Ill own the amiibo anyways.
If nintendo want to tie it to the amiibo to sell amiibo than so be it.
Thats up to them.
Isn't this basically being part of the problem?
Not really because the amiibos are going to sell out regardless.

Difficulty options are now extra features (when convenient)
Bravo, this thread is glorious.
I'm ok with this, I'll just buy the amiibo, looked cool anyway.
They are an extra feature, WTF are you talking about? Yes a lot of games have them from the start but it's not mandated or anything.
Nothing is mandated. Map packs were never mandated. Skins were never mandated. That's never seemed to fly as an excuse for Activision or WB or Ubi or anyone else.
I don't understand the point you are trying to make.
The defense people are using on this can be used on anything. Going by your logic nobody should ever complain about missing content in games because none of it was ever "mandated", whatever the hell that means. They are flimsy arguments.
My point is that it's all a matter of perspective, and when you're frothing at the mouth over the synergy of one toy with another toy then maybe it's time to take a long hard look at your priorities and figure out why inconsequential consumer bullshit makes you so mad.
I don't understand the point you are trying to make.
He doesn't think it's a big deal and is tired of people being mad at Nintendo.I don't understand the point you are trying to make.
You're just being an obtuse asshole for the sake of it at this point.

I still don't understand the point you are trying to make.
My point is that I see a lot of weak ass defenses of this stuff that doesn't get applied in other cases, and if it did, nobody in this forum would be allowed to complain about anything ever again. I wish people would just be more honest about the fact that they are wiling to put up with more shit for the games and companies they like even if that can be a little hypocritical at times.
This is bad and everyone defending it should feel bad.
That's the thing, I'm not "putting up" with anything. It's a toy. You either buy it or you don't. It's not a moral issue. As long as it doesn't actually, physically injure anyone who gives a fuck? It's not worth the emotional investment people are putting into it. Discussion is fine; hyperbole and spite are not discussion though. Perspective.
The thing that really gets me is that you can just spoof NFC stuff with a phone for free anyway. People can have their boycott cake and eat it too.
Fine. I'll buy the damn Amiibo. Shit.
I mean you were being pretty condescending yourself.
People frothing at the mouth because of little toys, etc.
People are frothing at the mouth over toys. amiibo are toys in every sense of the word and aren't worthy of this level of emotional response.
I've been getting into board games lately and have been watching a lot of Dice Tower stuff. They do top ten lists all the time and several of them sound pretty caustic, like "Top 10 ____ we HATE". Sure they get passionate about their likes and dislikes but the one thing they maintain is perspective. They don't call for boycotts or whine about "consumer rights" or view bad board game trends as some kind of moral issue. They are ruthless with their criticism but the ABSOLUTE worst thing they'll say is "there are better games you could play so do that" and move on. They're just board games in the end, you either buy them or don't. It's so goddamn refreshing to see a passionate discourse about dorky consumerism that doesn't devolve into a gigantic toxic shitfest like GAF almost always does.
