Trump addresses Charlottesville [Up: Trump's people force him to croak out "racism"]

This is probably the most well spoken presidential Trump has sounded yet, props to the teleprompter. Obviously coming off as disingenuous regardless.

WTF does "presidential" even mean in this context? Reading off a teleprompter? In that case, literally anyone posting here could be presidential. Anyone with the ability to read is presidential. JFC stop lowering the fucking bar.

Good. Well done, Trump.

He's going to get grilled by the left and the media regardless and he'll get no credit for saying it though. I think he deserves the backlash this time.

Of course he does. It should have never taken him this long to say something. He only said it because he's been getting grilled by it.

His first statement was what he really meant and that's what everyone is taking him for.

People really ready to give him a pass, he did the bare minium 3 days late.

"In that moment he became presidential"

The bar is so low

The spin is already happening.

Globalists and progressives forced his hand. Donald is only saying this to placate the masses while the white power of this country know the truth.

That excuse I just took from a comment I saw on twitter moments ago. This didn't weaken them, this did nothing to them. Empty words from an empty man.

I mean they're right. He gave them his tacit approval on Saturday.

Well its obviously closer to the truth than any upcoming hot takes how he finally sounded presidential

Tell your 2016 self that in 1 year you will applaud the US-President for saying racism is evil, 3 days after a Nazi terrorist tried to kill as many people as possible.

You're right I missed the memo saying we can only complain about how long it took him to say it in this thread. I'm not saying he's a great guy for finally getting around to condemning a disgusting group of people, but I'm personally considering it a small victory that he at least finally said what needed to be said.

I ain't giving him a pass for shit but I don't mind using his words as a weapon to divide the alt-right.

Edit: If I know people, and I think I do, you might think this does nothing but it will actually serve to drive a wedge between nazis who are like "he was forced, he still loves us" and ones who say "no, Trump's just a tool of the jews" or whatever.

Can you imagine how much better the country would be if the right also felt the need to grill a president for being silent on Nazi terrorism?

Here's the exact quote if you missed it:

"The KKK, Neo-Nazis, White Supremacists, and other hate groups are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans."

Full statement:

“Racism is evil – and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including KKK, Neo-Nazis, White Supremacists, and other hate groups are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans. We are a nation founded on the truth that all of us are created equal. We are equal in the eyes of our Creator. We are equal under the law. And we are equal under the Constitution. Those who spread violence in the name of bigotry strike at the very core of America.”
That's such a nothing statement, he's also not distancing himself at all from the people going "hail trump" and thanking him.

Like denouncing Nazi's as Nazi's isn't presidential. It's the bare minimum to be considered a decent human being. Trump failed at it for 3 days. There is nothing presidential in this conversation at all.

ZealousD

Makes world leading predictions like "The sun will rise tomorrow"
True. The likely outcome. But there's at least a non-trivial chance that it may cause division and bickering within those groups... maybe?

This is basically a repeat of the David Duke thing during the campaign. He wouldn't rebuke David Duke, then the media twisted his arm about it until he finally was like "fine, fine" and said he condemned him. They didn't leave his side then, they won't leave his side now.

How can anyone actually say "Oh well thank goodness he finally said it." This is a white surpremicist administration. He is on their side! His condemnation means nothing! Especially after his initial statement. It took him less than an hour to attack someone for leaving his advisory committee because of his response to this! Took all weekend to come up with this weak shit. Fuck Trump

Seriously, anyone who takes this speech at face value is lacking something in the attic. And hasn't been paying attention to what this administration is.

While it's in no way brave to say it, thank goodness he did. Hopefully this at least some what weakens the alt-right and guys like David Duke and maybe bothers Bannon enough that he leaves. I'm wondering what the Breitbart response will be.

I really don't see it. This was purely for the media and that pointless protective bubble of "see I said what I was supposed to say now you have to drop it". The nazis and white nationalist will know he didn't mean it and what it was for, besides that kind of ideology goes a hell of a lot deeper than Trumps approval or not.

If Bannon is ousted it's going to be because of that other story last week about the leaks.

Pretty much. It's way too fucking late. Also it's one of those speeches that doesn't sound like Trump whatsoever. Obviously not sincere, or words that he came up with. It's not that hard to detect.

Stop giving this man props for this bullshit response. Weak effort, no compassion, and clearly just doing this to gain positive attention. If he meant it the lame fucks he surrounds himself would be gone and he's actually state why he took so long to TRY and be "presidential"

Has he called it terrorism yet?
No. A reporter on MSNBC was speculating that maybe he didn't mention terrorism because they may not actually be able to charge him under a terrorism statute due to the way it's written, so they may not have wanted to set up expectations that couldn't be met.

Its not a small victory for the rest of us.

Its not a victory at all.

His unwillingness to make the comment when it was needed has resulted in every single person who believes this ideology also believing he has given his approval, and anything that will come out of his mouth after will be to "satisfy" the left.

If you want to call it a victory in your eyes, that's fine. But anyone looking at the situation as a whole wont be agreeing so easily.

LMAO

The President being the last guy to condemn outpourings of racism and racist terrorists only after being upstaged by his GOP people and VP means 10000000000x more than this rehearsed speech written for you by Ivanka.

You had the chance to say all this and instead started stroking your dick instead of paying tribute to the victims of the attacks.

Get fucked,

The Trump administration has dropped federal support of an organization dedicated to countering white nationalist and neo-Nazi extremism, a Politico report revealed on Friday.

The organization, Life After Hate, was founded in 2009 and is run by a small staff of men and women who were once part of racist activist and extremist movements, and who now work to de-radicalize others involved in violent extremist groups.

In its final days, the Obama administration awarded the group a $400,000 grant as part of its Counter Violent Extremism (CVE) program. Life After Hate was the only group dedicated to fighting white nationalist extremism to receive a grant under the program.

It’s also in increasing demand: Picciolini told Politico that since President Trump’s election, Life After Hate has seen a 20-fold increase in requests for help, coming “from people looking to disengage or bystanders/family members looking for help from someone they know.”

But Life After Hate Founder Christian Picciolini told ThinkProgress in February the group never received its check from the federal government. And now, the organization has been dropped altogether from the list of grants associated with the CVE program, which the Department of Homeland Security announced on Friday.

Still giving Trump the benefit of doubt. Do they ever learn?

We shouldn't give him props, but now we can safely use Trump's words of criminals and thugs when addressing a good 20% of racists Americans that support him, along with every one of his future actions that will promote whites. He must be all pissy that he had to attack Bannon's crew at the national stage.

He lost everyone on Saturday but the alt-right; he lost the alt-right today with the condemnation. (Which is good for the rest of us.)

Just a dumb move in a series of dumb moves.
He didn't lose any alt-right or Nazi supporters if you think he did I have some beachfront property in Arizona to sell you. To think he would lose support for this is dense. He already gave them his approval with his first response and the Nazis ate it up. These words are hallow and mean nothing and his fellow Nazis know it.

Yes. If played right, parts of his statement can be used to divide hate groups and draw attention to their actions and also make Trump look like a lying scumbag.

Hey remember when republicans were whining and screaming that Obama didn't call the Benghazi embassy attack terrorism right away (he did)? Trump still can't call it neo-Nazi terror.

I very much doubt that the terrorism statutes are too narrowly written.

The Nazis and other bigots who follow him would still follow him no matter what he said or when he said it. They know as well as everyone here that Trump doesn't actually believe in what he just said. It's beyond ridiculous that we had to wait three days for a real condemnation of these events, but I'm glad the message was finally put out there, I think it's important.

His bitch ass didn't even want to do this.

Off course not, people need to think that he didn't want to this but was forced to do it anyway...3 fucking days later and saying 'both sides' first.

All his words are empty and means nothing, don't expect to believe him since his words are always hollow.

Yep.

Literally days into office, Trump decided that defunding groups looking into right wing a white supremacy extremism was of utmost importance.

Now we should believe a word he says about right wing and white supremacist attacks, after refusing to acknowledge their existence until it got to unbearable international embarrassment.

After which he will go consult Steve Bannon and Jeff Sessions about the best way to stamp out the rise of right wing extremism in America. Right?

Get fuuuuuuuuucked.
