Team Fortress 2 Jungle Inferno Update

Honestly, among Spy's dumb, broken shit at his disposal that change is just baffling. I have a lot of respect for spies who consistently land headshots ( well the ones who aren't aimbotting) so them taking away his most reliable long range option is shitty.

I think they're aware that the better players treat spy as "Worse Sniper with a sapper", and so they're trying to make the two classes more distinct. I don't think there's any need for two classes built around getting long-range headshots, and apparently neither does Valve.

I haven't played tf2 since the matchmaking update last year. Have they brought back valve community servers at all? Or are all the valve servers still devoted to matchmaking?

They've haven't changed the system introduced in Meet Your Match. They made some minor tweaks but it is still inferior to what we had before imo. Valve servers are still matchmaking servers rather than drop in drop out.

Making the Ambassador a high-risk-high-reward weapon at close to medium-ish range makes a lot more sense than keeping it as the sniper rifle it is now. It just doesn't fit his role or kit to be standing back and pelting people with 102 damage headshots.

Matchmaking actually works now, at least until you're high ranked in the ranked modes. So that's something.

Valve servers are still kill, unfortunately.

That's cool that matchmaking is good now. I only liked playing cp_badlands and the cp snow level (I forgot its name now). Pre-matchmaking valve servers were the only servers that played long games of those maps.

I should buy a raspberry pi and create my own server that plays just those two maps. I miss tf2 :(

You can tell Matchmaking you only want to play Coldfront and Badlands. Those maps are common enough you could easily get into a match within a minute.

Played for a bit today after a veryyyyy long break but I think I'd rather just play Overwatch at this point instead. Can't see myself getting back into it tbh.

Pretty much every TF2 update, and it pretty much always works till I either run out of disc space or purchase a game that overwhelms my time

Banana Bay looked really good on the TotH stream, looking forward to playing it. I love me some PLR. :D

And more mobility for the Pyro should be super fun.

Man I loved TF2 for so many years, might be my most played game of all time. Game came out my freshman year of highschool and I was still playing well into college. But at a certain point things just got too nuts with the additives, there were too many variables and the roles of the individual classes became too muddied. I got over some of the obnoxious additional weapons over time (mini-sentries are still garbage forever), but the visual clutter just became too much eventually and I quit entirely around when they added weapon skins.

They never optimized the game to deal with all of the new visual effects either, so it just ran more and more like trash as time went on.

I would love some official vanilla servers. Like no unlock weapons and cosmetics, with the option of cosmetics. This must exist, right?
Man I remember watching the reveal trailer a hundred times. That artstyle, that gameplay, that everything. My most beloved online shooter... *tearing up*

You can get most of the way there when the item servers blow up when this hits.

New banana weapon for Heavy and a new giant flamethrower for Pyro

If I can't alt fire to throw a comical banana peel on the ground for the enemy to slip on, I will be very disappointed

Ugh. This "Campaign Pass" bullshit is why I haven't gotten into any of the TF2 events in the last couple years.

Valve has cynically become everything they once mocked.

I was excited to try out TF2 again with a relatively big update, but this just single-handedly turned me completely off.

It's been a good while since I've played TF2 on the regular, now's looking like a good time to binge.

It's not that different from what they've always done: Big update consisting of maps, item changes, new weapons, with the cosmetics being relegated to a new crate. Except now there's a pass you can buy to just do extra things to get items from. Why does this approach turn you off?

It's from this interview with TF2 developer Dave Riller earlier this year: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fmo2JUbpf_Y

All he basically says is that you get to choose the contracts you get and rewards you earn.
Well, you called it.

I stand corrected.

If only I could find non-Turbine dedicated community servers...
Well, there's 2fort and Dustbowl. Those are always populated. Or any number of strange community gamemodes like Randomizer or surf maps.

So are the jungle cases replacing all other cases? I am really out of the loop with this case and drop stuff. Custom Campaign sounds cool enough to pull me back in I guess.

Very funny timing that killing floor 2 and TF2 both introduced a system where doing missions gives you a new currency to spend on items exclusive to that currency.

With past campaigns you could still get regular crates along side of the campaign cases when you bought a campaign pass.

Wait, this will only be available for 4 days?

No. It's a 4 day lead-up of information to the release of the update.

Hmm okay I will just go with the flow I guess.

edit: Wait, that tracker n day2 says free for all. new game mode?

It's possible, my guess is that it's some kind of free campaign to go along with the paid one.

That makes more sense.
Shit I am excited about a TF2 update again, especially since it seems centered around Pyro ("pyroland" on that one tracker). Since when was there a 4 day update? 10 years?

Most of the recent updates have just been 1 day update pages (besides Meet Your Match with was a 2 day update). The last 4 day update was the Uber Update back in 2011.

Just read the patch list. Wow, some of those are strange. "No downside" to Bonk? Nevermind completely giving up a secondary weapon, and not being able to fire while it's active. Now if you use it to tank or distract a Sentry, or basically anything important, you're going to die right after due to the speed decrease.

And for how long they fiddled with how the Dead Ringer gained cloak from ammo, to just take the mechanic out years later is kind of laughable.

Valve has decided to balance the game around comp play now which is where a lot of these changes come from.

The Bonk isn't a huge issue in casual/pubs, the issue is with competitive where you can use bonk to get behind the enemy team and backcap with almost no penalty.

The Dead Ringer being able to pick up metal to regain clock allowed a Spy to effectively survive forever and have their DR ready almost right away after being triggered as long as they played around ammo sources.

Note that the patch list isn't 100% final, it's something they put out a couple of months ago to get feedback from the community. The item with the most negative feedback was the ambassador so at the very least I would expect that to be changed in the update.

Was the cleaver mini critting at a distance really a big enough deal to nerf it?

It’s my go to Scout secondary and I’ve hardly ever actually got the bonus damage
