Sony seems to be heading all-in on anti-consumer practices.

Censorship on an increasing number of games
Hesitant of crossplay
Controlling indie developers
Purposely locking the built in PS2 emulator in the console behind a pay wall.
Controlling some Japanese retail release dates in the west.
Removing digital codes from offline and online retailers.
Rejecting features from other companies which would be good for gamers.
Throwing Vita owners under the bus, most of them, 1.5 years after release
Complacentcy
Not helping release original games unless they take control of the IP in many cases.
Ignoring for 5 years of constant complaints from their loyal customers to improve thumbstick durability.
Dismissive PSN customer service.

And there's more I haven't even listed.

Since 2016 specifically, Sony's been nose diving into anti-consumer practices and pissing off many of their loyal fans. Such policies are in many cases petty, and they can help the competition in the future such as the newly announcef Stadia.

The question is why?

What happened the last 3-4 years at Sony to cause them to go down this route?

Is arrogant Sony back?
Is Sony getting over complacent?
Has the new leadership hired a bunch of fools?
Is there inner turmoil inside the company?

It just seems so odd that Sony started the gen right and now seems to want to compete with old DRM Microsoft.

As a PlayStation buyer for over 20 years it brings a tear to my eye that they would do a complete 180 out nowhere, for no reason, and turning into anti-consumer jerks

They got good games tho.

It’s not that some of the complaints aren’t legit. But every company has a list. And only focusing on that list makes them all look like the devil. Sony isn’t Pop Copy

Wanna hear what I think? Sony is scared. Yes they make good games and a good system but they see that the gaming landscape is changing. Crossplay inherently puts Microsoft in the middle of things. Microsoft has the most server power out of the big three and Nintendo is making killer games that all sell like nuts, not to mention they have creative hardware that everyone loves. If Sony creates this “master race” mentality by not sipping the kool aid, they will grow devoted players to continue playing their game on their platform. But if they just jump in with everyone else, the only thing getting people on PlayStation are the handful of exclusives, which could be enough for some but not all. Long gone would the days of getting a console to play with your other friends who have that console. If you don’t like adventure games, you’re going to get an Xbox.

Haven't i seen this thread 2x this week already?
Can you organise things with the other Sony haters so you don't make similar threads all at the same time?
Anyway, another one to the ignore list!

Evil corporation!

I think the censorship, imposition of american "values" on international content, it a bad place to start... I can see (and accept) the argument for controlling under-age nudity, or characters that look "child like", and restricting the distribution of some games, but what has been done to DMC 5 is just too slippery for comfort, how many games will be self censored - or not made at all -just in case Sony may not like certain pixel patterns?

But adding points like "Heistant on crossplay" doesn't give your list any credibility.

Otherwise, I'm not sure where you are going.

The FUD a select few users are continously spreading about Sony is insane. The "Google will kill Sony and Nintendo but not MS, are you prepared?" angle not going to fly anymore so you are approaching it from the "they anti-consumer! " angle now?

Next gen launches feel like elections nowadays with all the astroturfing

They'll change their stance after losing revenue in the next gen.

I mean, didn't mattrick teach them a lesson?

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy
V Voost Kain seems to be heading all in on anti-journalism practices.

If you want to write such a piece, measure every participant on the same level. So including Microsoft, Nintendo, and so on.

Well ok but they are still hitting 100 mil this year so the free market doesn't agree with you :messenger_sunglasses:

Sony’s guilty of what most console market leaders have been guilty of. They get stupid when they reach the top and treat their customers like trash. Of course, the video game industry benefits from a Stockholm Syndrome-afflicted customer base, so it can’t really fail.

Maybe another platform holder will be slightly less douchetastic in Gen9 and Sony will alter its course a bit. Probably not, but there’s always a chance.

I really hate putting people on ignore in case they actually have some redeeming posts every now and then but congrats Voost you have proven ignore worthy.

Another one of these. People care about different things but this is nothing like Arrogant Sony. I'm happy with the PS4 exclusives just fine and these always come off as console warz shit. DS4 thumbstick-gate? Lol.

Nintendo or MS aren't your friends either or even icons of consumer friendliness.

Please explain how we have been treated like trash.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
Truth is, Arrogant Sony never went away. But they got a mayhem on great first party games, so people were to busy playing to notice it.

The only pro consumer thing Sony has done was spitting out so many games. Not supporting cross play, digital refunds, not supporting mods (at first), along with all OP's reasons make me wonder how come people just blindly has accepted the business of Sony.

What's that built-in ps2 emulation locked behind paywall thing?
PS2 classics not being free, presumably. Couple that with a lack of technical know-how and BOOM you've got a patented Voost Kain bulletpoint.

But we'll never know for sure, because OP is long gone at this point. As usual, they have no intent of coming back and owning the bollocks that sprang forth from their keyboard.

Sony are right in most instances. Why would they allow cross play? They should let the others manage with their online services and not use PlayStation as a crutch to prop up their tiny and dying communities.

I agree with everything except censorship, which is a smallish issue in gaming.... Imagine how Google will manipulate things if they get control, they have been fined almost 9billion in Europe for anti-competitive practices. Sony have been fined 0.

Some people in here sure do got a one track mind.
I'm a man with a one track mind
So much to do in one lifetime (people do you hear me)
Not a man for compromise and where's and why's and living lies
So I'm living it all, yes I'm living it all
And I'm giving it all, and I'm giving it all....

Aside from the shitty move to kill game codes?

— Active opponents of backwards compatibility this gen, notably PlayStation/PS2 games that people bought for their PS3s
— Actively spearheading censorship and/or denial of content and games, specifically from Japanese developers

Those are three pretty visible strikes for a market leader.

I think they will rethink it...

Why would they? Sony Japan has zero power, and Sony feels some weird responsibility as market leader to carry the liberal torch and protect us from sex and nudity— but only in Japanese games, because they don’t understand Western virtue.

The only way Sony caves on its increasingly aggressive censorship policies is to lag behind another platform-holder in Gen9– and that’s a long way off.

Everything listed in the opening post doesn't affect me whatsoever so honestly, I could care less. As long as Sony doesn't follow Microsoft, Google or Nintendo when it comes to their first party games, im better than good.

We'll see, I'm gonna ask someone at PlayStation about it and see what's going on.

Slight correction, heterosexual sex and nudity. They are more than alright with LGBT, cheesecake.

It sucks, but your right. When you’re the biggest, you are centre with the gravity. Others are drawn to you. Not smart business loosing that leverage. But, it also needs to be balanced with consumer resentment.

There’s precedent for such behavior. Look back at the 16-Bit Wars. Mortal Kombat was a turning point and got Nintendo to finally relax its strong anti-violence position when it came to MKII. Nintendo was, at least in the US, losing the console battle to SEGA and needed to re-evaluate how it could make up ground. Allowing blood and fatalities after severely sanitizing the first game was a big step forward.

Lay off the personal attacks.

You're not very smart.

If you actually read the sentence it's self-explanatory. The PS4 has a PS2 emulator built-in, so Sony COULD have BC, they just won't.
