The next generation of gaming is nearby, and it's imperative that technology evolves to supplement the changes in technology available today.

By one thing comes across everyones minds, price. With huge advancements on the horizon after 5 years of stagnation, if we want a similar jump like the GamceCube to 360 in scope,, we will likely be seeing game consoles charging from $600 and up.

Will you even consider buying consoles during the first full year if they are over $500 at launch?

The consoles would be $400 if it wasn't for that damned upcoming Zen-powered Blu Ray drive. Adding to the death toll and spreading the radiation across the globe. If only there was a way to end the DRM, so we can make vaccines using our SSD drives!

Oh The Humanity!!!

(How are you coming up with $600 console prices out of nowhere? lol.)

Well I passed on the 8th-gen altog--nevermind I did buy a Wii U a few months ago.
I passed on the PS4 (and lmao @ xbone) so I could really do with the PS5's back-compat. I'll definitely be shooting to get one, but I might hold off for a price drop, slim model, pro model, whatever.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Of course, but I also understand that not everyone would be fortunate enough to be in a position to be able to even make that decision.

I probably have a few thousand hours on my PS4 Pro, and easily over a thousand hours on my Xbox One X. Probably 600+ hours on my Switch. Even if they are over $500, they will still be a good investment in my future entertainment. I also know that won't be the case for everyone though.

That's a tough one. I'm willing to go to $500, but they'd really have to sell me on it, to go to $600. I don't think Sony will go that high, because they've learned that $600 is sort of the third rail of gaming. But MS might. But I'm not that interested in an MS box at this point anyhow. So I answered no.

not again, no. I will wait for a way to get it on sale or a price drop. Honestly its not hard to do. I got an XB1X for 400$ using a Staples/Gamestop giftcard promo like 3 weeks after it came out. But i totally regret my OG XB1 purchase @ 500$ when it came out. So i will avoid that again. If i recall i also picked up a PS4 pro for about 320 about 2 month after it came out.

It all depends on what they are offering and how they are selling it.
$499 is my ideal price but I would be willing to go beyond that if it feels justified

Too much. I'm still waiting to get a switch for 200 dollars lol. At some point maybe nintendo will sell some refurbished units. But 500+ dollars is too much. I would have to have a bunch of money laying around and that 500 better be some super premium stuff, because im cheap.

500 would probably ideal and where I think they are aiming at but depending on the specs and options I would definitely be willing to go higher if I like what I'm buying. I held off on a Pro and a 4K TV so I plan to splurge a little at the beginning of the next generation

Depends if there's going to be more than one version on launch. I wouldn't want to pay more than 500 dollars for a console which may get a Pro version in a year or two.

It's not the price of new consoles that will stop me from buying it, but policies and business practices will. I'll hold off judgement until everything is revealed, but I currently plan on going PC as my main platform and buying whatever the most powerful (lol) Nintendo offering at the time is. I love Sony's exclusives but their censoring rubs me the wrong way and I'm choosing to not support that. Xbox is working on making their hardware redundant if you have a powerful PC, which I'm 100% on board with and grateful for.

I anticipate $500 would be the absolute lowest for the high end Xbox and I'm good with whatever the price is as long as it's for performance and not some stupid add on like Kinect or VR.

I bought Xb1 and PS4 launch day, also both Pro and XBX on their launch days. I ain't doing it again. I'm buying only 1 and maybe the other years later when they're cheaper.

I said this in another thread but people have this perception that $400 is the same amount of money when the ps3 or even ps4 launched. It's not. IIf you're willing to pay only $400 at launch, that means we're getting a gimped console.. Now, that's like a $360 console when ps4 launched and it was already underpowered and squeezed in there at that price. I dont know how many decades you cheapskates will keep going with $400 as your bottomline and expect great power.

Pricing is the strength of every great console launch, it's funny looking back at the $599.99 PS3 and casuals don't want to pay over $400.00. I give the PC/Hardcore crowd for wanting to pay more for more power, and frankly we aren't in a great depression like we were in 06' so I give a little bit of flack to $500.00.

Probably. I buy all consoles. If it’s that much at launch I’d need a really good launch game or two or else I will wait.

Personally probably not although it always depends first on if it will have any games that i'll be dying to play ,secondly if it will have any VR technology implemented on it (i don't want to pay not even 1$ for that gimmick),and lastly how consumer friendly it will be (optical drive, used games, backwards compatibility etc).

With that said i see some double standards lately from a lot of people (from both fans as well as from media/influencers). People were totally fine with MS's X1X being priced for more than 500$ and they were all saying how the industry really needed a console like that. Yet whenever they discuss about PS5's possible price being more than 500$ then it's: (whiny voice) "Oh no arrogant Sony is back!!","oh no they will want us to get a 2nd job!!!", "oh no it will be the PS3 all over again!!"

I mean i get it,it's popular to bash Sony nowdays (and most of the times they deserve it) but holy crap the double standards from some people are ridiculous to say the least.

Most likely will be buying three of them. One PS5 and two XBOX2X or whatever it's called.

I have a feeling a lot of the people voting "no" in the poll will change their tune at launch of whatever it is they want to buy haha

I'll buy one once there's exclusives there that are must play. This gen it was BB and TLOU:R. They'd have to put out another From exclusive for me to even consider a 500€ console.

Both consoles will be in the range of 450-500 usd. If there is one noticably cheaper than the other, that will take the early lead.

Yes, I will buy a PS5 day one because I already have reasons for that. My PSVR will be greatly enhanced by it and "intergen" games like the ones releasing next year. If i didn't own a gaming PC I'd also buy XBOX if they have some unique games in the pipeline.

Unless there's Banjo-Threeie, no. Not worth it to hand out that amount of money for a hand full of non-cross-gen games.

Nah. I don't know if I'll be in this coming gen but if I was, it's a ceiling of $200. I'd be waiting a while.

I think most people - outside of a gaming forum - balk at anything over $399, tops.

If they are good enough, I would buy them for 799 bucks even.

I don't want another underpowered generation like this one. Especially dissapointed with MS and the shitty Xbox One hardware. I hope they have learned their lesson.

I mainly do PC gaming but I have no issue with $500+ as long as it is warranted and there are launch titles that I want and cannot get on PC (aka Bloodborne 2 or something like that).

I will buy 2 of whatever system has the highest specs. Regardless of price.

No chance, unless they pull out some absolute magic in terms of first-party exclusives.

I'll wait for all the suckers to beta test the base model and mid-gen refresh before I hop in :messenger_winking:
