I was referencing actual GPU metrics, not framerate measurements, which thanks to PS3 only having one CPU core were often limited there long before hitting the GPU in cross-platform games.

Honestly, I was never one to keep lists of this kind of stuff (and presumably neither are you, or you could already answer your own request one way or another).
Fortunately there are people on internet that do this stuff for us - B3D keeps a list and I just went there and counted 5 games there that were 2x resolution on PS3.
It's by no means exhaustive, but there it is.
You wouldn't. CELL needed its XDR pool.
Now we're talking about memory subsystem redesigns. Even with the same GPU, PS3 could be noticeably improved if it got one.
More to my point though - the idea is for Cell to share memory space with the GPU for graphic-workloads, embedded framebuffer just introduces extra complexity in making that collaboration effective.
