didn’t Sony start it with making sure the Saturn didn’t get Tomb Raider 2?
No, first off that wasn't some timed exclusivity or paid exclusivety at all. It was a PS and PC game. So I'm not sure of its relevance here or even of the relevance of timed exclusivity deals in this thread in general.

Second, the Saturn version was cancelled because the saturn was projected to sell like crap and they considered it too much work to port it. Nothing to do with anything here.

lol that is pretty stupid, the game was financed and published by Private Division, not Microsoft, even if Microsoft owns IP now, they can't sabotage PS4 release.

Sony own Sunset Overdrive IP now, and you can buy yet for XBOX and PC, because Microsoft financed and published that game. Its exactly the same
You're wasting your time replying to him. And your sanity

That's reaching. We're talking about timed exclusive dlc. Dlc didn't exist during that generation.... And no. It started with 360 and exclusive cod map packs before any other system/PC.

Last 4 years? You don't remember CoD on 360 having exclusive timed DLC? What about all GTA4 DLC exclusive for a year on 360? This isn't a "last 4 years" thing. It's just come back to bite them in the ass.
I don't remember CoD on 360 having exclusive timed DLC. I would apologise but I'm not sorry in the slighest.

I doubt there's any sabotaging going on.
maybe they thought a Pro patch wasn't worth it?

you have to remember that actually using the PS4pro hardware in a meaningful way is not as easy as using the One X hardware in a meaningful way.
and this game doesn't quite seem like a AAA production, so the Budget is most likely very limited.

the Pro has about twice the GPU power of the base PS4, so you can maybe do 1440p at the same settings as base PS4, if you're low on budget and want to quickly put together a Pro update.

meanwhile the Xbox One X's massive GPU, CPU and very massive RAM boost over the base systems is easy to utilize.
the hardware is literally designed to run base Xbox One games up to 5x the resolution of the base system.
that, plus the CPU boost and massive RAM boost help make it possible to just use the raw power to your advantage.

on PS4pro meanwhile it is not as easy to, let's say, optimise for a 4k screen.
1440p doesn't look good on a 4k screen, and getting anything more substantial out if the hardware requires checkerboarding or other reconstruction trickery that not every developer is necessarily willing to put development time towards

Sony paid to have Tomb Raider 2 not come to Saturn (console exclusive franchise for three years or something).

But Nintendo were engaged in shenanigans back in the 80's - blocking support for rival platforms if you wanted to publish on Nintendo, stuff like that.

One way or another, exclusivity of games you didn't create or publish has always been a factor in console gaming (and now on PC store fronts, too).

Edit: MS are under no obligation to pay for a Pro upgrade that wasn't already contracted for.

agree but as people are saying that Microsoft started it with the DLC and stuff on the 360 I had to point out it goes back further than that

When you're getting beat so bad that you start becoming petty. I'm sure this will sell 2 more Xbox One X's
Well said ! Take this, Microsoft ! You can't hide anymore Phil !

Pretty much the entire history from Sony since their arrival on the video-game market is filled with shitty moves much worse than that.

Isn't this like Namco making Tekken 7 run at 1080p on the Pro while leaving the Xbox version at 720p?
i heard about something fucking stupid like that yeah
like mortal kombat 11 is pretty shit on the X

Unfortunate but if the game is good, it will still be worth playing at 1080p, it's not like 1080p suddenly looks terrible or anything.

Also if the game has any performance issues, it might even run better on the Pro at 1080p with Boost Mode, compared to the X pushing 4k.

I'm sure Digital Foundry will show the results when the game is out.

With full games, it goes a long way back indeed, starting with Nintendo and SEGA.
With the advent of DLC, MS started making DLC exclusivity deals straight away. It's a natural consequence of competition.

It's just that a lot of people who now point fingers at Sony every chance they get are very silent whenever MS does it.

But in this particular instance, it is not even the case.

Not surprised, since MS owns Obsidian. What would be the point of them allocating resources to improve the competitor's version of the game? Wouldn't make any sense. The only downside I can think of is that they're hurting the sequel's power to attract future fans to the Xbox platform, since lowered sales on a 2:1 install base means fewer people care when OW2 comes out; it's not the system seller (or GP seller, I guess) that it would be otherwise. But that's probably a minor consideration for MS.

1080p is okay for a game like this. It's a modest-budget, AA game whose strengths lie in the area of gameplay, not graphics. That has been clear from all the previews. This was never meant to be a graphical showcase.

And besides, constantly comparing your stuff to someone else's stuff is a guaranteed way to spoil your enjoyment of just about anything.

What about "Blue reflection" 1080p on ps4 and on PC locked at 720p?

Gust being pretty incompetent on graphics. For example, the remastered Atelier series launched 1 year ago is 1080p/30fps even on PS4 pro, when the remastered PS3 release was 720p/60fps.

Seems the game has to be released for the platform due to pre-existing contracts which supersede the acquisition, but it doesn't seem like they're doing Sony any favors in the process.

Seems petty, if you're going to release a game at least put some effort into the ports. Pro should have some enhancements compared to base models, even if it's basic like some better AA or some shit (I don't have a pro).

Then I won’t be buying this at all (On PC). Fuck off you useless bag of cunts. Everybody moaned with your 30 day early bullshit, now you are going 365 early?

Fuck.

Off.
As an owner of both consoles, it’s pretty shitty.

I mean if you want to get technical, Sony did this shit during the PS1-PS2 era with exclusive third party games. Sure Microsoft did some shitty practices but Sony isn’t vindicated, they are equally as shitty, just at different intervals.

I realize it’s popular and trendy to blame the woes of the gaming industry on Microsoft but I hope eventually you can take off the homer goggles and realize what’s really happening.
Well thats great fucking choke on it then.
Zero money for you
Yeah Im done with Activision. First the BS PS only raids in Destiny and now this. Fuck off

This isn't anything like Titanfall, Tomb Raider or SFV. This isn't paying to help develop the game, its cock blocking a mode that was already in a game.
Sony is having trouble getting with the times. Why would they bother doing this? How could they not know that this would receive backlash. How is this move even going to shift the needle at all. Do they really think Xbox gamers are all of a sudden going to go out and buy a PlayStation 4 this late in the game? What's to gain here?

So a mode that only affected like 7% of the game for 1 year exclusive, xbox fans were outrage. But when something negative that affects the game 100% of the time probably the lifetime of the game to the competition, xbox fans are OK with it. The double standard is quite hilarious.

Weird how when the X gets the shaft, nobody bats an eyelid, and it’s just the ways it is because “why would people spend time working on a game for a console that doesn’t sell”. But when the Pro gets the shaft, everybody suddenly thinks it’s some big conspiracy....

Yooka-Laylee JUST lunched with no Pro stuff either, yet nobody started screaming for that one...

These goal posts man, I can hardly keep track of them...

You can stop lying. Even PS4 owners did not like the exclusive.

Ok?? I already said I didn’t like that nor do I like that the Pro isn’t getting enhanced.
Not sure where the lie is with my quoted post.

False equivalency. In the case of CoD the mode is already created and is just being held back for money-hat reasons. In this case, not only do we have no idea if Pro enhancements were ever planned, but it would be added work and expense to develop it now. It is possible, even likely, that MS just foooted the bill for this enhancement after the purchase of Obsidian.

Regardless, it's a 1st party studio now, so why would they go above and beyond for the competition?

But in this case Microsoft hasn’t done anything, game still getting released on PS4 so nothing can realy be said. It’s speculation that the game not getting PRO enhancements because of Microsoft not fact. As point in an earlier post digital foundry recently tested a game that was exactly the same on base PS4 and Pro but nobody said anything then

It doesn’t effect 100% of the game, the game is still the same and still 100% playable where as the 7% of cod is unplayable for Xbox gamers. Two completely different arguments

This sounds shady. It reeks of revenge and salt.

Could this be a response to the Modern Warfare deal?

Say it ain't so Microsoft, you're better than this.

I'm sure they have their reasons...but I can't see this helping more than hurting.

BS excuse. The game is releasing this month. Who's footing the bill for the PC resolution?

I think you answered your own question. Why wouldn't they provide better support for the blockbuster console that's sold over 100 million?

You can play the cod mode next year. Let me know when ps4 pro owners can play this game enhanced.
