The Matrix 4 and John Wick 4 Opening on the SAME DAY (May 21, 2021)

In a strange twist, The Matrix is now set to go against John Wick 4, with both films starring Keanu Reeves. Matrix co-creator Lana Wachowski is directing the untitled Matrix sequel, which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Neil Patrick Harris and Jada Pinkett Smith.

I still can't believe a Matrix 4 is happening...not sure if I want still, and I'm usually a strong supporter of the Wachowskis. I still kinda appreciate what they went for with the 2nd and 3rd Matrix movies. I love Speed Racer, and I really liked Cloud Atlas for how different it was. Never saw Jupiter Ascending though.

As much as I like the action in the John Wick movies, and like the original Matrix trilogy though, the real Keanu movie I'm excited to see is Bill and Ted Face the Music.

I haven’t seen any of the Wicks. Worth checking out?

Absolutely. John Wick is the only modern film franchise I give a shit about. Where most of Hollywood is obsessed with pushing this agenda or that one, John Wick is just obsessed with dogs and shooting people.

As for John Wick 4 going up against The Matrix, I know where my ass will be on that day. I can't imagine another Matrix movie being worth a damn after the letdowns of Reloaded and Revolutions.

I don't see how Matrix 4 could have any chance of being good at all. It never should have been a trilogy, the 2nd and 3rd movies are horrible, and there's no need at all to have a 4th other than Lana wanting to own more shoes.

Boths movies interestingly have the same problem.
There should have never been a sequel after the initial ones.
The first movie was fine. Just fine. Overrated as fuck. The second was godawful. Didn't watch the third because I don't hate myself that much.

Wow, 2 garbage ass movies that shouldn't be made coming out on the same day. Crazy stuff.

No. Mediocre millennial movies made for people that only watch american movies and go OMG KEANU HE SO BREATHTAKING OMG!@!!!

This bitch thinks he's hot shit because he's at home jerking off to his VHS copy of Slumber Party Massacre for the 56th time and cleaning himself off with his Lily Munster t-shirt.

I like the first one a lot, like really a lot. One of the best action movies of the decade for me, next to Fury Road which came out in the same year.
The second one was complete poo, though..

That's really not saying much though? Me beating my meat is an action movie on par with action movies of the 2010s.

I love John Wick, 1, 2 and 3.
I love Matrix 1 and 2. But Matrix 3 is a boring boring shell of a film.

One of the movies will change dates.

In all fairness, by the late 90's, Holywood actually started learning how to shoot action movies in a visually interesting way.

Action films from the 80's and early 90's are so boring both in their lack of choreography and the way they were shot.
It's like the director tells the actor to just shoot their gun screaming while the camera is pointed at them. Actors ask where the bad guys are meant to be, director says who cares. Then just do the same with the bad guys, act like you are being shot, where are the good guys shooting from? Who cares. Point camera at them and film reaction.

That's why I don't listen to your movie recommendations, solbad...

I saw John Wick 3 in a packed cinema and it was honestly one of the most fun films I've watched with a huge crowd. The reactions to all the gory moments were priceless. The action scene with the dogs, although it was very long, I was astounded at what they pulled off with the dogs, amazing choreography and timing.

Was everybody cracking up because the CGI blood looked like it was from a PS3 game or did they fix that for 3?

At least they were entertaining. Above The Law and Die Hard are amazing. There were good action films from the 2000s too. It's like once 2010 came along everything went to shit.

CGI or squibs, they both look fake to me so I don't care either way. I honestly can't remember the CGI blood looking that bad though.
^_^

And yes, Die Hard is one of the best action movies of all time, not necessarily to to it's actual shoot bang action though. It's the characters that made it stand out and also it's crazy stunts. There are definitely stunners from the 80's and early 90's, just not too many.

Anyway, I hope Wick 4 is the last film so I can finally buy them on blu ray. I like to buy films in a complete set where I can.

I was one of the few people that like Reloaded (didn’t care for Revolutions). Doesn’t sound like a sequel though with that cast.

I’ve seen the first and third John Wick but still zero interest in that series. Also, Keanu’s age was showing in the third and it’s a good thing he was surrounded by good sellers.

I remember watching this or another video like it. I appreciate his dedication but it's not really impressive in a movie imo. Looks too smooth to be real. John Wick is basically Keanu with infinite ammo, an aimbot and god mode turned on.

brap brap you're trying to hard. Charming playful trolling and faux edginess only works if you use it sparingly....and if you are charming :messenger_winking_tongue:
Just giving my honest onions as usual.

I take it you never saw John Woo's Hong Kong movies?

Yeah Robocop, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, Goldeneye, Terminator, JCVD flicks, Segal flicks, Aliens, Indiana Jones, Batman, Total Recall, Mission Impossible, Heat, The Fugitive, Bad Boys, were all boring as fuck.

Don't forget my mancrush Dolph Lundgren. Showdown in Little Tokyo was great.
I kinda agree with him though. I need fancy camera angles and 10 minute martial arts sequences to enjoy an action movie. Also neon lights like in John Wick. /s

It is not.
I'm sure I can look for good examples when I'm at home. Nothing unique is done with the camera work in the old films. I recently watched the Rambo films and the original 3 are like a shot/reverse shot talk scene but with the action instead of talking. Same with Total Recall, loved that film as a kid but now it's boring to watch.

Even the legendary Star Wars films are like this. Film hero shooting weapon, film Stormtroopers reactions. The less said about the ep4 and ep5 light saber fights the better.
:)

Congrats on mentioning all the popular films from the 80's and early 90's? Not including the JCVD and Segal films, 16 films out of literally hundreds of action films?

And I'll mention again that some of those films are great and memorable because of the story and characters, not necessarily because of how the action was filmed. Batman for example has very boring melee fights, Keaton couldn't even move properly in that suit.

I'm not counting the JCVD and Segal films as I haven't seen them in 25+ years. Blood sport is the only JCVD film I have watched recently, loved it as a kid, still love the music but it has boring fight choreography these days.
Too many camera changes and the actors are telegraphing their moves to obviously. Like someone punches someone else but then they leave their hand in the air because the next choreography step is for them to be grabbed. Too much slow motion. Some camera shots are set up to get a simple 2-4 move choreograph on film.

You made a blanket statement about movies from those eras, and provided not one example. There is trash in every era, but to say action movies from those decades are boring is nuts, some of the best action movies ever made are from those decades.

I guess back then, I watched a lot of Asian action films and their action was on an entirely different level to Hollywood. And keep in mind I'm talking about the actual action and visuals here.
Asian films always had well choreographed scenes that were shot well. Cameras used a wide shot so you could see everything in frame. Minimal camera cuts. Melee combat did not look telegraphed. Car chases and gun fights where you can see the good guys and bad guys in frame.
During those years I always wished Hollywood would catch up.

Is this the hill you want to die on? Different camera angles make movies better? Do you honestly have ADHD or something? Can you watch any movie made before the mid 2000s? Are you really one of those people that needs 10 min fight sequences in a movie?

Ye your opinion is still terrible and wrong.
If you want to specifically talk about camera work, most action films of the 2000s and 2010s are absolute dogshit in that particular area.
They went crazy with millisecond cuts to camouflage bad and lazy action choreography. Ye there has been a shift recently which wick movies are an example of but most movies of that time periode are turds like that.

This expands on my point

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
I love action films of the 80s and 90s. They felt more viscreal. Too much of it today feels rubbery with some rare exceptions.

Yeah I think most of the action and visuals in the movies I listed were pretty great tbh. I don't know any Asian action films from those decades and you did not give me any examples (again)

And Skyr Skyr is bang on about camera cuts, I find it refreshing to watch older movies that don't have 3 camera cuts per second.

In all fairness, I was just throwing my opinion out there and wasn't expecting to be dog piled on and asked for examples. sheesh
