not so sure about that. currently the switch is killing it and if ps5 is really that much weaker then people will get the next xbox for multiplats alone... and maybe then if a few worthwhile exclusive ps games arrive, people will get a ps5 then, but this will take several years at least.

I think with XsX being 12 TFLOPS, as gamers you are going to start out this decade great. The games are truly going to shine. Microsoft is doing all the right things: powerful console, backwards compatibility, studio acquisitions, advancements to the OS.

Does anyone recall a video that Microsoft showed that they are somehow able to improve the graphics of textures and other things by offloading it into servers? Its not variable rate shading, it has to do with online connectivity to the servers. If someone can link that video that would be great!

Kazekage1981 Sadly I don't, but it would be tricky to do that I picture since it requires an active internet connection. Which is great for the lads with cable, FIOS, fiber optic etc but us HDSL peasants are gonna get shafted xD.

Because at this point they know some things are not going to change. The overall teraflop performance will not change at this point. The only things that might change are the amount of ram and clock speeds.

that's true, but otoh you have Sony who is in basically the same position. I guess being in the market position of selling the most consoles makes things different for Sony. I have Spiderman but not God of way, Spiderman looks good but to much is copied from the Arkham games to make it a great game. its slightly above average for me

It would surprise me if "Ultra" settings would ever be the target on console. There are diminishing returns there. Consoles generally stick to medium settings with some flourishes of high.

Nvidia is doing the EXACT same thing with Nvidia shield tv pro but for movies.
Old low res movies look much better with this on 4K TVs

Although I am sure that Microsoft will consider DirectML for old games, I think you are missing some additional potential for it. A theoretical Lockhart console/XCloud blade, that cannot render a 4K image, could render a 1080P image, and if connected to a 4K display, would look closer to a native 4K image than the simple upscale, thus "simulating" the power of a higher teraflop device. Microsoft is probably assuming widespread 4K display adoption over the next 5-7 years. I read somewhere recently about 4K having 50% market penetration (I cannot recall if it was sales or install base), and gamers likely have a higher take up rate for 4K than the general public.

I'm also super excited for Hellblade 2. I want to see if it bears any resemblance to the teaser trailer. I have no doubt it will look amazing as Ninja Theory are absolute magicians considering what a team of 20 did on the first one, Magicians or not, I'm just hoping it will be close to what they've shown already.

The first one was a game I had NO interest in & didn't think I would like at all, but thanks to it being on Game Pass I decided to give it a try. It ended up being one of my favorite games of this gen and with Microsoft money I think the next one will even be much better.

Downloaded Hellblade and just finished it right now.

Two things:

1) What a game. Very unique and different, it was a bit disturbing at times but overall what a great experience. Short, sweet but loads of fun and interest. I can't wait for the second one now.

2) Game Pass could be the best thing to ever happen to gaming. For 1$ I just downloaded and beat Hellblade and there's a ton more games I'm going to try out.

Sorry if this was a bit off topic. But Hellblade 2 on the XSX should be great and if Xbox continue to support Game Pass this strong into next gen they really have a game changer in my opinion.

I think the 8K print on the XSX APU might not just be marketing. DirectML has flown under the radar for a year, because raytracing seemed like the bigger deal. But the Reddit leak from January 2019 mentions Microsoft AI. Using DirectML you could actually upscale a 4K image to 8K, like it has been proven to work for 1080p to 4K. Xbox Series X might actually be a full 8K console.

Forza Horizon 3 is shown at 15:41. This could be the real secret sauce Microsoft has for XSX. If they have DirectML upscaling to 8K in hardware on the APU, that propels the console to the equivalent of a 48 TF APU. It's absolutely crazy.

Similarly, the console could render raytracing at 1080p because of the huge performance impact and then simply use machine learning to reach 4K with much better and most of all faster results that could be achieved by using raytracing at 4k.
