I want the PS5 to fail and XSX+XSS to succeed

You read that right. I want the PS5 to fail miserably like PS3. Why? Because its best for us consumers. Remember when PS3 failed? It was great for us:
- Free Multiplayer (No PS+ needed)
- More and better Exclusives (imo)
- 3 free PS+ games monthly
- More aggressive price cuts(How tf PS4 is still 299$ after 7 years!!!)

If Xbox 360 hadn't been that successful, we wouldn't have gotten all this. With PS4, Sony got cocky and now we need PS+ for MP, we gotten less 1st or 2nd party exclusives this gen , less monthly ps+ games and higher console pricing.

I want the XSX to succeed and I hope that MS puts pressure on Sony with XSX, XSS, Gamepass etc., so we, the consumers, benefit from this friendly competition.

I am still going to buy a PS5 digital edition, but I dont want Sony to have a 2x sales advantage this gen. If sony sells 60-70m PS5s this gen, you could call it a failure. If MS sells the same (XSX+XSS combined) I would call this a success for them. What do you think?

EDIT: What I mean with this thread title: For example Sony selling "only" 80m PS5s (fail in comparison to PS4) and MS selling 70m Xbox Series X/S (success compared to Xbone)

This could be the last console generation and you want Sony failing? do you know console failing means less support for third parties? have you seen the Japanese support on Xbox?, do you want that?

What I mean by "failing": Sony can still sell more consoles than MS next gen, but I want the sales to be even, so that Sony need to give us (consumers) more for your money. Even Sales would be a "failure" for Sony and a success story for MS.
Example: Sony sells 80m PS5s, MS sells 70m Xbox Seres X/S.

This World is simply not good to lunatics..

lol, well that's certainly a take.

All signs point to Sony having an incredibly strong gen with the PS5 unless they somehow drop the ball multiple times in big ways and don't bother to course correct. The sheer momentum they've got with the PS4 alone will carry them based on goodwill, and they'd have to try very hard to piss it all away to fail next gen. That doesn't even take into consideration any new strategies and plans they have yet to reveal for next gen.

What you should want is balance and healthy competition. Can you imagine a world where the original Xbox one is the only console? With all the DRM crap and TV and kinect. Or the world with only ps3 at 600 usd/euro and no incent to ever improve?

Absolutely wrong way to think!Sony learned their lesson since then. And the PS4 has way better exclusives than the PS3.Playstation was always on top in every way.Tech wise they gave us always state of the art and games wise too. That won’t change no matter what.I personally think the ps5 will be the most fun best PlayStation till now.

I want them all to be successful. I want Nintendo to sell strong to retain their first party games and I want Xbox/Sony to sell well to compete and continue to produce great games in a competitive market.

I see your point in that PS3 failings forced them to fire up their console with additional's (a bit like the Xbox 1 this gen) but if that had forced Sony out of the console market then we wouldn't be very happy.

Well, fanboys want and think Sony will crush MS at least 3 to 1 so how is this scenario worse? It isn't. If Sony had no competition you'd all be paying for it.
Is the past just gone now? Most generations have a console that runs away with sells and I'm pretty sure I didn't have to deal with some monolithic console maker.

This is a glass-half-empty take right here.

How about just have MS do better this gen for that (rightly pointed out) friendly competition?

Honesty, I’ll probably get the XSS early in the gen as I still have a huge backlog on PS4 and missed out on everything Xbox last/this gen. Then a year or two down the line either upgrade to an XSX or keep it and buy a PS5.

I actually want both of them to succeed in order to keep competition alive.

Sony and Microsoft, for once, have highly different approaches and this is very good for the industry.

Actually you are right, Microsoft's failure brought us Crossplay, Pc Ports, Game Pass, Bc and more. But i would like to see them both have success, because if one of the two stops making consoles, the monopoly will be bad for all gamers.

Imo we got the best consumer experience and games with Sonys back against the wall (PS360 gen). Why wouldnt a healthy competition not be good for us? If sony sees PS5 sales not having the same momentum as PS4 or XSX, we will get a price cut rather sooner than later. If XSX is the same Price as PS5, many gamers who dont care about exclusives will buy the more powerful console (like this gen PS4 vs. XBone). It will automatically put pressure on Sony to come out with more or better exclusive games, content etc.

But if MS gets crushed over several generations and doesn't turn a profit why wouldn't they drop Xbox? Then if Sony is the only console maker it would suck. You don't think MS helped Sony improve their online, make sure PS3 had an internal harddrive, etc. Competition makes Sony and MS work harder. Fact. You can't begin to refute that.

Tbf sony already learned their lessons from the ps3 debacle and they're really doing everything to avoid the same mistakes.

Yep, and it wouldn't have been a debacle without competition.

I don't want Playstation to fail, I want Xbox to be good. Competition is important and it's a bit one sided as of now. Anyway, you have a really bad take about this.

I get where you're coming from. That's it. I'm not going to take cheap shots or try to take you down. What you say makes sense. Hell,i have everything i could ever want for TWO PS Vitas (a 1000, and a 2000) and i got that all for very little, considering.

But still, i would like everything to be okay. I'm probably going to get a PS5 and i don't want my money to be a waste.

Don't you start backpedaling by editing your opening post now. You choose a clickbaity title and shall be judged accordingly.

I think Sony's current value proposition is awesome and therefore I don't want things to change tbh.
But I do want MS to be as competitive as possible.

What you're asking for is for sony to do worse and not MS to do better. I dont see that helps us at all.

When the PS3 semi-failed we got pay to play online, microtransactions and a lovely dose of 'lets not take such a loss on profits from console sales'.
