Yeah I would guess anything running at 120hz is probably not going to have RT turned on and will basically be a slightly dressed up version of what's out on the previous gen consoles. Then again the CPU and GPU are much more advanced and they probably are still using mostly the same base assets as current gen for the most part so we'll see.
the cpu will be more than enough as usage doesn't scale with resolution. You'd only need double the cpu for 120fps, and next gen cpus are x4 faster than current gen so if it were only cpu limited they could go for 240fps.

But gpu is the obvious bottleneck. next gen gpus are roughly speaking x8 more powerful than current gen. to render a 1080p ps4 game at 4k you need x4 the power, and to double the framerate on top of that you need x2 more, a total of 8x the power, just to render a ps4-quality game at 4K120 with little headroom for higher settings (let alone next gen effects)

The people expecting eye-popping visuals at native 4K120 either know nothing about the tech side of things or have been deluded by disinformation

So first off PS5's are supposedly already in production right? then we are told Sony is doubling their order and hope to have 10 million out the door by the end of fiscal year but someone is starting a rumor about a lottery situation because Sony is sending out early pre-order sign ups to customers who spend a lot of money? That just seems dumb, they are trying to get their better customers to switch over asap so they'll stay locked into the PlayStation ecosystem.
the retailer cut on consoles can be as high as $60. Possibly $80 if you look at the ps4 bom and the fact that they needed to sell a first party game to break even.

So if Sony can cut the retailer on even 20% of the consoles sold, they will have saved hundreds of millions of dollars on the first 10 million shipments.

This could mean the console is expensive but it could also mean console is cheaper because Sony is willing to bypass retailers

You won't see 120 fps with RT reflections or shadows you can be sure of that.

This.

As all market leaders do (see the case of Apple), cutting the middle man is essential and possible once you have a great reputation and people want your product from day one.

If Sony is smart, they will sell the digital PS5 at a lower price directly from their own site than other retailers. So if everyone else is selling it for $450, Sony could sell it themselves for $400 and probably make the same amount of profit.

Yup. But 2013 Xbox One can't and so that's a problem for cross-gen games smartly delivered. 50 GB BD-DL max. But thats why the new COD PS5 disc will not work on PS4. Can't be read by PS4 drive. Unlike Xbox.

So currently, only on PS4 will the standard version of the new COD will have digital upgrade path via the store, Xbox is TBD.

Its weird. Its a lot.

If one buys the $60 new COD, regular disc version:
For PS4, there is an upgrade path on PS5 for next-gen version.
For Xbox One, no upgrade path.
Both will run on next-gen systems via backwards compatibility but not get new visuals.

If one buys the ($70?) new COD, NEXT-GEN regular disc version:
For PS5, it will not work for PS4. Next-gen version only.
For XSX, disc will also work on Xbox One. I guess it unlocks the old last gen version?

Both have the same cross-gen bundle that is digital only. Thats at least the same for both systems.

that upgrade path cost is $10 via PSN

Interesting how Sony is doing the preorder and Sony has said there is going to be a shortage at Launch and the first few months. If only a Somebody on The forum had warned you guys.

Edit

Even when he said it was for supply issues and other factors. This is the reason I don’t post and share info I have anymore.

Does Microsoft have the same issues? Just wondering how quick I'll need to be when pre-orders open

Was always amazed when the fanboys kept talking about how Smart Delivery was going to make you own all games between systems... But it was always publishers choice. Just because CDPR did it didn't mean they all would.
smart delivery was marketing fluff piece to make Xbox Series X look better against the competition. They could have just stuck the 12 tflop number on the xbox covers instead of the stupid smart delivery label. Show that powah!

Yeah I got the email, followed through it, and the very last line of the faq :
Any orders that contain a non-US based address will be cancelled

To be honest with you, I’m not bothered. I think we’ll probably get standard pre-orders here in the U.K, and won’t have to jump through all these weird hoops.

I don’t see why people are surprised. Bigger Publishers and games with Marketing deals with Sony can opt out of Smart Delivery. They are big enough titles that Microsoft can’t force them. Microsoft can’t afford to not have those games on their platform.

Doesn't have much to do with marketing deals. Just a matter of being able to sell the same game twice, I assume.

Okay, so partial disclosure: I work in marketing & communications. I’ve also taught both.

This is so fucking stupid on Microsoft’s part I can’t believe it’s real.

We've had our disagreements, but here I absolutely agree. I'm sure Aaron Greenberg himself designed that piece of shit.

It couldn't be more clear! See they put "Series X" on one of boxes in 3 different ways, but on the other box it only says "Series X" twice, also differently. Plus both say "Xbox One" slightly differently too, so its obvious they're not the same product. Crystal.

Its either perfectly clear or fucking confusing, can't remember which.

Anyway you cut it, the $10 upgrade is shit. Oh well, not much we can do about it. Only a temporary measure till the next gen is bedded in.
