Why Konami? Maybe for their IP's, but I'm personally see them buying studios like Bungie or something.

I also don't know why fans are in panic mode.

Sony doesn't need to be desperate by acquiring studios that doesn't benefit them, but they should acquire studios that make sense and keeps them more competitive against Microsoft (I think MS and Sony are just letting Nintendo do their own thing).

Unless Microsoft is trying acquire CD Projekt and/or Take 2, then that's when I believe Sony would be in some type of "panic mode".

leads to fear. Fear leads to xbox.
Konami is pretty much dead outside of the actual IPs they have. They gutted their talent a long time ago. But I doubt Sony would be able to buy up the IPs without also buying Konami along with them.

Also the fact this is something "fans" are spurring on is both retarded and selfish. These companies aren't making these sort of buys because of console war fanboy Twitter BS, they're doing what's best for their financial bottom lines. These mentally-stunted kids need to grow up for a change xD.

So tell me, how does it feel to "hate" having logic and common sense in your posts? :pie_roffles:
as in? what part of their studios did not grow grass roots wise with proper time, management, new hires etc to then be what they are today and successful. Where has MS had growth with their own studios? If anything old studios that once left and had IP's under different studios which used to be pillars are no longer as strong as they were such as gears, halo, no idea what to expect from fable etc.

So yes MS has a long way of growth still to actually compete with nintendo and sony.

They have great IP's but Kojima and all the talent is already aligned with Sony.

If they could do a deal to get the IP rights for games, then it would be nice.
I don't think Kojima would be very happy with making another MGS but Bluepoint could remaster 1-4.

At best Kojima give Sony that overpriced Delivery simulator that rightfully flopped hard. It would be par for the course for them spending more money buying up Konami's stale leftovers

You don't buy Konami for the dev talent, you buy it for the IPs. But if you buy it for the IPs you need studios to make the games. Honestly buying Konami would be tough for anyone because no publisher is sitting around with the spare bandwidth to develop as many games as buying Konami would present to you. It would be IP overload.

Even if you figure they just contract all the usual suspects like Bluepoint/FROM/Platinum to handle various games, it isn't like those studios are sitting around twiddling their thumbs. They wouldn't be able to start probably for a couple years.
Sony's top tier studios are not going to work on Konami IP's so forget that fantasy.
...why though? Konami has a lot of B-tier franchises, but Castlevania/Contra/Metal Gear/Silent Hill/Suikoden are all Sony level franchises to some degree. And who doesn't want a PS5 4k Rumble Roses????????

I don't really think there's any comparison between Zenimax and Konami, but it would be great to see SOMEONE do something with their legendary IPs. Hell, maybe Sony could even add a clause to give them exclusive pachinko rights. Everybody wins.

Would you want Sony to buy Konami? I'd love to see someone make a decent Castlevania or Metal Gear, and we all know it's not going to be Konami.

Edit: Here's a story on it: https://gamerant.com/sony-buy-konami/

I think this is a great point. Konami isn’t doing shit with those ips. It would be nice to see someone do something. Either Sony or MS buying them would be fine with me.

I have to assume given their output that they don’t have much In the way of studios these days, so you would basically be buying ips and A back catalogue, and your studios would have to actually make the games. If that’s the case, Microsoft would make sense there.

Konami is in worse shape than Zenimax. Just buy a couple of their IPs and leave the rest of the corpse behind.

Konami of all companies? Seriously? Konami? No. Buy the ips. Konami in the pachinko business and let them have it.

The only thing Sony (or Nintendo, or MS IMO) "needs" to do is focus on the future. Develop new properties and support the best talent in the industry. I said it before in this thread but buying up these companies is merely buying the past. You're buying the right to old properties that are never going to have the impact they did when they first hit. Same goes for the Zenimax deal really. Doom and Elder Scrolls are fine and all, but when Doom first released way back in the 90s or whatever it was, it was the biggest thing ever seen. It's never going to recapture that. Same goes for Elder Scrolls. I doubt ES6 will have the same kind of impact that even ES5 had. Maybe Starfield will be cool.

Buying things doesn't really solve core issues a company is experiencing. It's much more about internal culture, taste, and ability to execute. Also, buying companies doesn't guarantee talent stays at these locations.

Look no further than what MS has done with so many past acquisitions to see why today is not indicative of anything at all yet. Remember when Nintendo selling Rare seemed like the stupidest thing they could do? Now it looks completely brilliant.

Damn it’s so pathetic.. Moments like these make me feel completely alienated from the “gaming scene”.

I can only hope these people are mostly very young people, waiting for their balls to drop.

They should totally do, so we can see MS retaliating yet again so that Sony can strike back until there is no third party studio left.

Buying the most trashing company in gaming isnt going to help.
Metal Gear and Castlevania are dead without Kojima and Iga, so let them stay dead.

Konami is sitting on their IPs. They're not interested in making AAA games anymore. Sony should just buy the IPs (not Konami). It's win-win.

This is kind of laughable. I love Metal Gear and Castlevania as much as the next guy but franchise sales to date aren’t even close to DOOM, Fallout, and Elder Scrolls. Even Capcom wouldn’t come close. Hell maybe not even Squeenix?

Microsoft got people acting nutty today lol. Im for Sony getting Bluepoint and Housemarque(at least I want them to).

Even if Konami are the biggest pile of wankers in the industry, I still despise any platform holder buying third parties.

If they have spend billions on something, then they should create new studios tasked with building new IP's, adding to the industry, not taking away from other platforms.

No. Sony has a ton of IP they could pull out and develop.

If MS continues on a buying spree they might want to pick up a few names just to develop them.

lolwut.

To do what exactly? MS spend enormous amount of money on something that will hardly make those money back.

Sony (a much smaller corporation) should also spend enormous amount of money on something that will be even less profitable? Makes sense!

I feel like buying Konami would actually piss off kojima. I don’t think he wants to be under the same umbrella as them

but Capcom instead

Sony doesn't need a 10-15million seller, they already have several of those.

Square and Capcom would be huge considering they would be acquiring Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter and Tomb Raider (?), Kingdom Heart IP and many other successful IPs.

Only Monster Hunter would be enough to sink or swim as an exclusive, fucking game keeps selling a fuckton every gen. Vita didn't have one and it bombed...

They are Playstation first and foremost.
Um....alright then I guess. Incredibly pointless and utterly arbitrary distinction, but sure why not?

On topic: Konami's market cap is over half the value of Sony's in total, and we're not just talking about Playstation here, we're talking about Sony,......this isn't happening. Goddamn gamers are stupid as fuck and cringey sometimes.

EDIT: And another thing, those saying just buy Konami's IP's? Yeah that ain't happening either, you know much money those Castlevania and Metal Gear Pachinko machines are raking in? Konami ain't about to let em go.

The game industry is dead to Konami, it's time gamers move on as well. Shit's sad.

Yeah, I just don't trust that the direction of Microsoft's first-party titles would be a good fit for Konami IPs. I think Sony would do a better job making a Castlevania, Metal Gear, or even Bomberman, and it might be the only chance to get Kojima on Silent Hills.

However, a Gears-like Contra could be pretty cool.

MGS is primarily a Playstation franchise. Only an idiot would deny this. That's where it has sold the vast amount of its games, they have has close ties with the MGS franchise. Sony as a franchise has been featured in cameos in the games themselves over the years.
