I've heard this before. Remember when Schreier said something similar months ago? How devs (which ones nobody knows) said good things about the PS5?
Honestly just tired of all these vague comments with absolutely nothing to back them up. Zero context as to what they mean. No specifics. The specs are set in stone. No mythical unicorns or secred sauces.
What specs are set in stone, you know L2 and L1 cache sizes and arrangements, you know cache bandwidths ? All of this is vital.
You know the 80 CU RDNA2 beast is leaked as having a large 128 MB L2 cache and only a 256 bus, and its a beast ?
AMD just patented infinity cache, and there are also L1 patents showing large GPU IPC gains. Is that enough back up ?
I doubt Ps5 has the shared L1 cache and some operations going over 20 % more performance in some commands as it seems more focussed on deep learning apps with shared data over arrays, but it shows what a cache optimisation can do.
I can imagine a big L2 cache would be great for ray tracing.....
That L1 AMD patent paper is a good read, effective bandwidth to shaders = bandwidth / cache misses factors. If you get data to shaders at the nearest cache Faster than lots of clock cycles for a cache miss, performance goes up SIGNIFICANTLY>
