So, how quiet is *your* ps5/xsx?

How loud are your next-gen console's fans, really?

XSX is dead silent.
PS5 (digital), fan is silent, but has coil whine. Luckily it's annoying only with quiet games.

This is my second PS5, the first was "eaten" by ants and was replaced by the warranty (unexpected).
But the both are (and was) wery wery silent. Just when I install a disk is a littleeee bit loudy

I've been exceptionally impressed by how quiet my Xbox Series X is. To date, I've never heard the fans. Then again, I've also not had to use the disc drive, so I figure I will hear that the day I need to use it.

My PS5 disc is pretty much silent, can't hear a thing unless you shut down AC/Fan/TV sound and like less than 1 meters (3 ft) and still barely audible. I don't use discs so don't know if that would make noise.

Have both Series X and PS5. Both quiet and don't hear them at all during gameplay. I hear the PS5 disc tray spin up every so often, but when playing digital games they are both equal. Have yet to test the Series X disc tray.

Yeah, whatever vibration dampening they were showing there doesn't work at all. The disc drive is about as loud as on a PS4.
Really makes me consider the digital edition but I don’t know if I’m ready to give up that flexibility. Apparently it’s gotten better with updates if the responses in this thread are anything to go by.

well this poll don't work because they aren't gonna be the same.

i will say my PS5 isn't as loud now that i took the Demons Souls disk out of it

Poll should be updated to support both console statuses.. :p

My XSX is so quiet - you can hear mice farting...
My PS5 - sometimes (very rarely) can hear the fan - but still very quiet. The CD drive is much louder than XSX.

My nephew's PS5 - in comparison/contrast to mine, you can hear an audible whine across the room.

I have both a PS5 digital and a PS5 Disc Drive. You can't hear absolutely nothing from the PS5 Digital, PS5 disc on the other hand sounds like a jet engine, i swear i haven't heard a loudier console ever.

I thought my PS5 DE was quiet until I tried Oddworld: Soulstorm and Wreckfest. It was a bit disappointing as I had thought for weeks that I had dodged the coil whine bullet.

Series X - Dead silent. The only way I can hear anything at all from it is if I put my ear right on the console and I can get a very faint fan sound.

I have a series X and a disc drive PS5. I have them both on a shelf under my TV and both horizontal with plenty of ventilation. I don't think I've ever heard the series X at all. Certainly nothing noticeable. I've heard the PS5 once when the fans kicked in for some reason. The PS5 does have some coil whine but I had to mute the TV and listen specifically for it to hear anything.

What's gotten better is that the disc no longer spins up at random every now and then (apparently - I didn't have a PS5 before this was fixed). It's still very loud WHEN it starts going. But that's really only a thing when installing a game and then when launching it, and then it's just for a few seconds. For whatever reason it does this even when I launch a digital title (like Astro), which sure is weird.

My XSX is whisper quiet. Very faint fan noise when I am very close. My PS5 has a fan with a melodic hum and it has coil whine. It's is quieter than my PS4 Pro when running God of War but much louder than my XSX.

That first option is a set-up because I bet a lot of you eat your wife's booty every night so that breath is extra loud🤣😂

OT only noisy thing about my ps5 is when the disc drive spins up. Everything else whisper quiet.

Sounds more or less like the SX when loading/installing a disc based game, otherwise it’s quiet, for me anyway. I’ve never had that issue with loading a digital game on the SX though, that is weird. Hopefully they fix it with an update on PS5.

I've had both since launch and they're both completely quiet.

I've gone all digital though, except for BC games I already had discs for.

During the heatwave in the UK, PS5 was as quiet as during the winter. Very pleased, hope it won't get much louder as the gen goes on.

Both are inaudible from my couch, just to test I went up close when both were playing a demanding game (Ratchet and Clank and Gears 5) and the Series X was just a tad quieter.

Both are doing a fantastic job.

The loudest part of my PS5 is the Disc Drive as it spins up which lasts very briefly after putting a game in to play or while installing it. Other than that there's only a very faint coil whine that even in the dead of night with your breath being the loudest thing you can barely hear it. Overall I'm very happy with how quiet it is.

Had a Series X was completely silent, had a digital PS5 also completely silent, I now have a normal PS5 and it only makes a little bit of noise when reading discs.

Series X.

I chose I can barely barely hear it. Technically, it's a toss up between dead silent and this one, but chose this one as I'll go with the choice that makes noise.

Most of the time, cant even tell its on. I think my cable box and router near it hums louder.

From my sitting position cant hear my PS5 working during the day. During late night with absolute silence, i can hear it working but still very silent.

the only way you hear my Series X is if there's absolutely no ambient noise and you get your ear really close to it while running a game.

then you'll hear a slight fan noise

Basically silent. It's really noticeable coming from PS4 (slim). Although, I haven't played any true PS5 exclusives yet, so I guess the system hasn't really been tested.
