God Of War coming to PC on January 14

Not really, no

Consoles will always offer the best bang for buck ration compared to PC.

Building a PC with PS5 specs here in Brazil would cost more than R$ 11k, while the PS5 costs R$ 4k. Almost 3x more money.

Not only that, but having to wait 3 years to play amazing games such as GOW ...
I'm way too anxious for that
Even with our (Brazilian) currently being so low, it's still better to just travel to the another country, buy a gaming PC there, and bring it back. Or if you know someone that does live there but visits occasionally, asking the person to buy it for you.

Well, almost everybody, except those small group of gamers ;)
This is something that I have a hard time understanding. The usual console wars, I understand why it exists, at least I think. People invested money/time in some product, and a lot of people have some "need" to establish that they are better than what can be seen as their "rivals". I think it's a very silly and pointless thing to do, but I get why it happens.

But why does breaking exclusivity of games make people mad? Is it the feeling of being "cheated on" or something similar? I've seen one person using a "wife sleeping with other people" nonsensical analogy, hence the hypothesis. I can't think of anything else.

They still get to play the games earlier, they are still able to play and enjoy the games regardless of the amount of ports, and the company is not going to take major risks for some ports.

$50 for a PC port of a 3.5 year old game is kinda cheeks

Edit: this was before I read the DLSS and ultrawide and whatnot. As I've commented it's still steep to double dip but if you're PC only it seems fine assuming performance isn't ass
And it's free for PS5 owners with ps plus. But this will sell millions on pc and make sony even more dolla. Then it will make some of the new fans of it want a ps5 to play the sequel. Smart move by sony.

20M sold in 3.5 years, what an achievement.

Some of you are still to stuck with hardware numbers for these companies. This isn't 2005 anymore.

MS and Sony already understood that having their games dependent of one single piece of hardware to be played is no way to be in this business with the way production costs are doubling each gen that we get.

They want their games available to "everyone" out there or at least more people out there. They are just doing it differently than Microsoft.

Sony is doing this without alienating their consumers by releasing older games on PC once they don't sell on their hardware anymore. They get the extra bucks, more people playing their stuff and i'm sure their own teams are happy with this, specially since Sony will have a team in place for these ports.

Sounds like a well-oiled machine to me to be honest.

I honestly have a feeling almost all of these multiplayer games they are working on will be released at the same time on PC AND PS5 on day one and i can't wait for the meltdowns when that happens.

It's an example why it makes way more sense to drop 400 or 500 on PS5.
1050ti pc is still more expensive and gives you 1080p at barely 30dps.
PS5 gives you controller, 4k and 60fps... And loadingg times. And that's only days gone.

So sure. You can play days gone on low end PC. But you get worse experience for more money....
And you have to wait years for it!

Imo console is worth it even if all games come out year later on pc. I don't want to wait and I have aversion to problems and demands of pc releases. It's never just buy and play on pc. Nevaaah
The difference is with this PC you can play every emulator available, Halo, god of war, Zelda, and almost every game on the market except for a few Sony games that aren't available for emulation yet.

For those who haven't played this, you're in for a treat.

Bringing exclusives to PC multiple years after they're initially released makes a lot of sense.

What game do you suppose needs or would really benefit from DLSS?

P.S Flight Simulator is only getting its DX12 patch next month, thats like the only current DLSS candidate I can think off.
I was just somewhat surprised sony have beat ms to this. I havn't expected ms to use it because their consoles get nothing out of it, and I even had less expectations that sony would use it.

As for being beneficial the way hardware availability/price is at the moment there are probably still alot of people on 2060/2070 cards that could benefit from dlss in any new title, even in something like halo or forza. It would help higher end cards on 4k displays aswell a 3080 could just maintain 60 at ultra in the halo infinite beta, if the campaign dials up the visuals at all dlss could be handy there for example. A 3080 can't do flight sim at 4k native 60 either, over cities you can hit 100% gpu utilization at around 45fps but I guess I need to see what the dx12 patch brings there.

Close ties with AMD?
Their DX12 games needing to be as hardware agnostic as possible
So FSR more likely than DLSS.

Id guess the next UE4/5 title will have a DLSS.

Will probably pick this up on sale just for the ultrawide goodness and graphics/frame rate improvements. Game is worth a second play through anyway.

I'm ok with this. I played the Original when it came out, but happy to jump back in for PC and replay it before the sequel comes out. I feel like companies need to stop listening to the vocal minority on twitter and youtuber commentators about how they'll feel betrayed by Sony or XYZ company for porting an exclusive to PC.

Companies need to look at revenue these ports are generating, and should release them three to six months later on PC. Could be considered like the old theatrical to DVD model? There is no reason not to release these games closer once a PS5 game launched, they make more money, everybody wins.
Yes you spent 500 USD on a PS5, people shouldn't feel attached to a plastic brick, and neither to any company, as they are just looking to make money off people. Also PC gaming is expensive as hell, so the barrier of entry is higher.

Yeah, that's been the main reason I am a little surprised that they keep skipping GOG in recent releases (e.g. Days Gone.)
So Horizon is the only one so far.

How many playstation games we got on PC so far?

Horizon
Days Gone
Does Death Stranding Count?
God Of War

Is GoW going to be on Epic?

Has any other game on PC used Ground Truth Ambient Occlusion before? I can't think of any I've played. It mostly SSAO and the occasional HBAO or SDAO that I see.

Sadly this kind of devalue the PS4 version. I'll probably get it on the cheap.

How so? The PS4 version was released years ago, whoever wanted to play the game on PS4 already did that (about 20M people). And it's not like the PS4 version could look or run any better if the PC port never existed, it's a good as it could only be. The game is dirt cheap nowadays anyway, you can get a used copy for like 10-15$.

If you stretch it you can add : Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, Detroit Become Human and Journey to the mix.

Few years ago, I was sure these will never go on PC and here we are today with GOW and Uncharted coming out soon.

Crazy.

I wonder if the success of these games was a deciding factor in Sony's decision to release their game on PC.

Keep devaluing your own console Sony you’ll end up right next to MS.

Last place in all sales since no reason to buy your console.

Lower quality games since developers will be forced to make their games on multiple platforms. Losing the benefit of coding for one console. Especially that SSD. What was the point of making such a high end SSD if developers still have worry about people with HDD’s.

Easy, they're not gonna release PS5 only games on PC [in the next couple of years] except maybe games like Demon's Souls that aren't utilizing SSD in any significant way.

So far there's no sign even of cross-gen sequels getting a PC release.

Oh they definitely will.

They'll just probably either require a lot of RAM as an I/O workaround, or just require a Gen4 SSD. We'll see.

Its using the SSD for data streaming & loading, check out Bluepoint's interview with Digital Foundry for more info on it.

The Nvidia leak, which included God of War, includes Horizon Forbidden West, Demon's Souls, and Returnal as PC releases.

Both GTAO and SSDO were and have been in Treyarchs COD games for quite a while.
I think since BlackOps 2 or 3.

GTAO is just the generic term for the Treyarch implementation of AO.

They can simply target PS5 specs for their games and make NVMe SSD as the minimum required storage on PC, they don't have to worry about people with HDDs.

Apparently its the best version of Screen Space Ambient Occlusion available at the moment from what I gleaned off the net. Even better than HBAO+.

PC version of God of War was just announced confirming previous leaks.
Not, this seems to be a great way to encourage PC players to get PlayStation 5 wen God of War Ragnarok arrives.
But how does the PC version of this cult PS4 / PS5 game looks in comparison to its original captured on PS5?
Here's God of War PC vs PS5 Early Graphics Comparison.
Enjoy!

DISCLAIMER - Why PS5 30 FPS video.
I used my own gameplay footage which I uploaded to my channel. You may find it in Playlist section on my channel of course.

Now, it seems that YT has updated its encoding algorythm recently therefore the program I usually use struggles with downloading the larger videos from YouTube and it outputs only 4K 30 fps. To provide you Guys the video as quick as possible I decided to use it, since this is an "Early Graphics Comparison", which shouldn't be considered as final, and only as a headsup for upcoming proper video and general idea behind na "Early" comparison is to give a brief look on what to expect from new version of the game.
Please note, due large size of 4K gameplay videos I'm unable to store every gameplay I capture, so that's why I upload videos in 4K to be able to use them later in videos such as this one.

I just hope that it launches without any issues. It's the first time we're getting Santa Monica Studio's in-house developed engine on PC.

Hmm.
Depends on how you define best.
For the quality you get the hit is pretty minimal so yeah you "could" say its the best.
It can sometimes NOT play well with SSGI so youd have to "fake" GI by using something like SSDO (As is the case with this game).

VXAO is dangerously accurate....and DFAO is also super powerful for the cost.
VXAO vs GTAO vs DFAO is actually cool fight.
I just dont care enough to test them all back to back.

Does anyone still think this was a typo?

Just a matter of time now!

There as also similar case with R&C being listed as "console exclusive". Honestly, after that premature Bluepoint acquisition announcement all the other direct leaks start to look more and more likely to happen, the question is not "if" but rather "when".

If this is accurate it would come to PS4 and PC.
Nah. It was a clear typo.

That slide language is meant for 3rd party timed console exclusives, like Deathloop, FF16, etc.

It means PlayStation and PC day 1, then Xbox/Switch later on.

That said, Demon's Souls will definitely go to PC eventually.

What engine is gow using? anything with it on pc ?
Proprietary built from scratch for that game by Santa Monica Studio.

Nothing else uses it.

You have any basis for this argument? You think Sony didn't study the possibility of a drop in sales and loss of potential revenue?

And developers won't be "forced" to do anything. If the potential sales on multiple platforms outweighs the profit of exclusivity, they'll follow that route. Simple business decision. And just like said in this comment section, there is no reason at all for a drop in quality in regards to the games. And there are many games that are multi-plataform and can easily compete with the quality nof exclusives.

The differences that were apparent to me just from looking at this compressed vid:

-Higher quality shadows
-More shadows were being cast by the objects
-Tweaked AO implementation (which we officially now know as SSDO, GTAO)
-Better AF 16x
-Improved LOD on trees and some terrains
-Higher-res textures(?)

(?) might be down to checkerboard vs native res difference
