Absolutely, dragon's dogma is simply the best. We can say everything about capcom but in the end, they are Legend in what they do. Dragon's Dogma/ Dark Arisen is the blueprint for current action rpg game today. Fromsoftware included.

Both games have excellent combat.
But I think what makes souls combat so good, is the bosses you encounter.
They are beyond satisfying to conquer.

But your post seems pretty damn low effort.

DD is like Dark Souls meets a Beat ‘em up. It’s hyper combat, which is not a very good comparison. You could say you prefer faster combat. That’s at least a better argument. That’s like saying you want every open world game to play as Shadow of Mordor. The Souls games get way more criticism for being cryptic, which comes from its popularity over the years. At its core the Souls games get far too many enjoyable memes because it takes away from the gameplay it originally crafted. It’s like comparing apples to oranges.

Dragon's Dogma and Souls games have very different flavors of combat, I wouldn't want to miss out on either. I definitely have a preference for Souls but at the same time I think each game is built around the type of combat it has. DD combat in Elden Ring wouldn't make much sense unless all the enemies were redesigned, and vice versa.

That being said, the Souls format has had so many refinements and variations since Dark Souls, I'm really looking forward to seeing how the new DD will bring forward that style of hybrid hyper action rpg combat.

Edit: How do I do GIFs? FFS, help someone.

^^^a gif on tenor like that on the site page doesn't have the URL you need. On that page, right click the gif and pick open image and new tab. When you get just the gif on a black screen, that's the URL you want. When you post, there's a little icon in the bar that looks like a tiny picture of a landscape. Paste the URL into there.

Could never get into DD combat. I tried many times and with many different classes and it just wasn't fun. Enemies have far too much hp and people may like to make fun of rolling around in souls, but it's still far more elegant than constantly sprinting to get some distance from your enemy.

I know OP is (rightfully?) getting a lot of flak, but I tried the first Dark Souls (remastered, on PC) and, coming from Bayonetta, I hated the Dark Souls combat. Granted, I only played the game for a small section, and again it was coming from Bayonetta -- which has an arguably very different combat system, one that appeals to me greatly -- so I do very much want to try Dark Souls again and give it another honest try.

But things I hated:
- I was the Knight class, and movement in general was slow and clunky
- The Knight has a "roll" (or is it a dodge? Can't remember) that is much less a roll and more of him just awkwardly throwing himself on the floor, what in the actual fuck. What does this have to do with combat? Well, a lot, obviously.
- Thankfully they give you an option to change the button mappings because the default layout is all sorts of unintuitive "WTF" 😂
- I don't like the "doing anything takes stamina" systems in video games. Run, goodbye stamina. Light attack, goodbye half stamina. Strong attack, goodbye over 3/4 of my fucking stamina bar. Granted this is all at the beginning, in the prison level, and I'm sure you can buff your stamina bar as you progress. But I still don't like stamina-based systems; it's my fucking personal preference and I'm sticking to my guns.
- The parry mechanic is clunky as fuck and I sometimes couldn't get it to work. Don't give me any "lol git gud scrub" bullshit -- I have a lot of experience in action and especially fighting games and I'm pretty good with timing and execution. (Just one of a trillion examples, I Pure Platinumed all chapters, in all difficulties, in Bayonetta with both Bayo and Jeanne.) Also parrying is useless for bosses.
- Combine all of the above, and the first boss battle, the giant fat troll thing in the jail, was not fun. I beat him after only one retry (which again proves it's not an issue of "git gud," it's an issue of me not having fun) because I figured out that all you had to do was bring a shit ton of healing, run circles around the boss, look for an opening, take advantage of said opening and chip away damage, and hope that he doesn't hit you with one of his giant swinging, massively damage moves that you can neither roll away from nor parry. (Not that the roll does anything anyway, since he just throws himself on the ground, AND it takes fucking stamina to do that!)

That of course is wrapped up in one of the ugliest game worlds I've ever seen. I'm thinking, ok maybe it's just the jail level, it will get better after that. Nope, still ugly shit even after the jail.

Again, I'm admitting that maybe coming to Souls from a fast, stylish, colorful Japanese character action game with a heavy emphasis on dodging, parrying, and combos, was probably not the best transition. I'm also admitting that I didn't play for long enough to maybe have the game "click" with me. It's also my understanding that many improvements were done after Dark Souls 1 (an IRL buddy kept raving about Sekiro, for example, so I went ahead and bought that on a sale).

I will give Dark Souls 1 another try, a genuine one. But man, as far as combat went, first impressions were NOT good. At all. I know this series is a GAF darling but super fans need to understand that not every game is to everyone's liking.

Let's not forget, Dragon's Dogma at is best kicks any Souls game.

Dragon's Dogma reached highs that no Souls game can ever dream to reach.

Souls games have become more and more stale, to the point of them even adding giant bosses in an attempt to make things less boring.
If anything, it has only showed how simple and frail Souls combat can be. It only works well for 1vs1 combat.
The more opponents you add, the worse it gets.

On Dragon's Dogma it's the opposite -- the more foes you add, the more fun things get.
Wanna know why there are no Dragon's Dogma clones and hundreds of Souls clones?

Because Dragon's Dogma is much, much more complex to program and get right, something that only capable developers would be able to replicate.
Souls combat is the most simplified and barebones combat in existence, because that's how you appeal to the masses.

Dragon's Dogma chads keep winning.
What you say about multiple enemies is definitely true. Souls combat doesn't scale well with large groups of enemies unless there slow moving complete fodder enemies.

Sekiro is somehow even worse its entire posture system is completely chucked out the window when you encounter more than one enemy.

I do think the combat is better. But that is the only thing that is better. The overall package is like a 6.2/10. Hopefully, DD2 improves on everything else.

yea

It's not hard to be better than R1-R1-Roll-R1-Roll-Roll abomination.
To be fair it's difficult to argue you can't complete a huge percentage of entire souls franchise with this tactic.

I think thats the reason for its success. There challenging but straight forward when you adjust and don't really require fast reflexes or complex button combinations.

Where as games with deeper combat mechanics have struggled for commercial success I.e. devil may cry, bayonetta and ninja gaiden.

This OP is so bad that Kobayashi, decided to leave his role as producer at Capcom, and joined Netease.

Hope you're happy, OP.

Honestly, even giving it an honest try it doesn't sound like Dark Souls will ever be for you. But a few suggestions that may help it "click" for you.

First of all, the game is nothing like a character action game, so you'll never get into it if you're looking for hyper action and long flashy combos. The combat is all about resource management, placement, and knowing your opponents. Stamina is a big part of this - if you take another swing, do you have enough stamina to roll out of the way? Can you block the next attack or should you try and roll through it? Do you go for a slower heavy attack for more damage or do you poke and move back? That's the kind of thing you're dealing with. Often the odds are stacked against you and enemies are much stronger than you are, so abuse the shit out of items, magic and terrain whenever you need to.

As for the game world - I personally love the look of it, dreadfully oppressive and occasionally hauntingly beautiful. Just exploring the world is half the experience for me. It's a recurring theme throughout all the games so if you don't like exploring a horrible decrepit world you probably won't like most of what you see.

Sekiro is probably a much better fit for you, it's faster, flashier, doesn't have stamina, and is all about parrying and timing. And like you say, there's nothing wrong with disliking Dark Souls (or any other Souls games), so no need to try and force yourself to like it.

The advanced class way more fun than the starting class , I rated its only 6-7 if you played the basic class (striker/warrior). But playing assassin , magick archer , mystic knight/ sorc could easily hit 8-9 in my book .

And yea the damage system in this game suck huge dick . The way it was calculation is player Attack Point - monster Defense Point = Damage dealt .
What does this mean ? It mean if you have 150 damage and monster have 120 def you only deal 30 damage , but if your damage is 180 then you could deal double the damage compared to when you had 150 damage .

It make higher level monster (than you) became so freaking tanky , even to the point of impossible .

After 140+ hours of elden ring I feel souls combat is good, not great and certainly not the best.( There overall great games for other reasons)

It looks and feels good and managing stamina is a bit interesting. But they are also very simple you rarely need to change tactics and the entire games can be beaten by spamming r1 or elden rings case L2.

Parrying is frankly for posers on YouTube and not a core skill you need learn accept for one off bosses it's often more efficient to spam r1 as waiting to counter takes time and you can't animation cancel.

I don't know about dragons Dogma but nioh and especially nioh 2 have far better combat. Pure action games are obviously far superior
