It depends. On weekends when I'm free from work I usually play a couple of hours more. On weekdays, maybe 2 hours average. I usually don't play more than 5 hours unless it's something like Elden Ring (or any Souls-game by From), where I can spend a whole day just playing, forgetting everything else. Some days I don't play at all, because I'm with my GF or sitting in front of my computer writing. I've also been gravitating more towards handheld because it's so convenient and you can just pick up and play, even when you're not home. I get a lot of mileage from the Switch. But overall, I wouldn't say I'm addicted though. I do spend a lot of money on gaming however, so that maybe counts as an addiction 😜

I play like 1-2 hours on weekdays and 2-4 hours on weekends (if I'm staying home). Unless it's a From Soft game, in that case fuck the world.
I don't consider myself addicted because I don't feel any "withdrawal" symptoms if I can't play anything for a time (for example when on a trip).

I game a lot but I also don't watch TV.

There's this weird stigma with gaming that's like "lol, you've been playing this game for 3 hours straight, what a loser..." Same people say, "Hey I binged the latest season of Survivor this past weekend, it was awesome!"

From my experience this is more of a thing with older people (40+). Almost every person who has told me I'm addicted for playing every day usually spends more time in front of the TV than me

You go completely of the charts sometimes. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I admire that since I can't do it anymore. Like these marathon sessions in the youth where i was glued to the couch. I can still keep my mind focused for a very long time but my body needs the contrast of movement in-between.
Yeah but that happens just couple times a year. I put in some hours in the weekends if I'm not with my family but I do so much less of casual jump-in-and-out gaming nowadays... I did just beat Atomic Heart playing like 1h a day since release but that's rare.... So on average it's either 19hrs a day or zero :messenger_halo:

Couch sucks and will kill your back, you need a good chair, ideally a recliner type with multiple controls!

All depends on what my mood is at the time. I gamed 0 hours in January, then almost 70 in February, and so far pretty much 0 in March. Pretty sure Bayonetta and Atelier Ryza 3 will change that though :p

Honestly, I can go months without gaming if I'm not in the mood, but when a game grabs me, I can play 60 hours in a week. Obviously that can't happen all the time but yeah, it does happen a couple of times each year.

Not at all. I can go a couple of months at a time without gaming, and do so every year.

During the periods when I'm routinely gaming, I tend to go for 2-3 hours per session.

No, i used to be, but there isn't as many new games now i want to play as in the past, so i sort of binge the games i play nowadays, i'm playing The Outer Worlds Spacer's choice quite a bit as it's just come out but no more than a couple of hours a day some days, then again i know what's going to happen as i'm sort of replaying it, Starfield will up the hours though when it comes out.

About 2-3. I wish I could play more. Fucking job, wife, kids, butt sex, church of Phil Spencer and house chores take up too much of my day.

I don't play every day. Sometimes not even every week. When there is a game I like, I play often. If not, I can be without gaming for quite some time if necessary.

I can put heavy hours into the hobby but I'm also extremely discontinuous with it.
I can spend entire days (or in some cases even weeks) hardly ever launching anything (or trying to and then quitting minutes later because it's not clicking) and then I get hooked with something and (assuming no other impeding deadline or urgent thing to do) I can pull a 6-to-10 hours marathon in it in a single day.

Married and work FT, lucky to get 4-5+ hours per week. Mostly spend free time watching other people play games on Twitch in the background

An unhealthy addiction to gaming is bad but if gaming is what you enjoy doing when your chores and responsibilities are handled, then game on bruhs. Fuck the haters.

As an aside, buying loot boxes and gambling is for degenerates. Have some self-respect. Also, get up and walk around for at least an hour each day. Sitting for hours on end is bad for you.
So much this. Its incredible to me how people can sit in front of the TV and watch garbage reality tv or whatever bullshit is on ALL DAY and not bat an eyelash. But then these are the same people that would criticize and tell you that you're wasting your life playing video games. At least, in my opinion, with gaming, or hell, even reading, it is active entertainment. You must, by necessity of the medium, engage with the content to consume it. Passive entertainment like television or movies can just be broadcast at you.

I played WoW for ten years straight. Never saw the light of day. I weigh 600+

I met a girl in WoW. Our hearts connected. She flew to finally see me.

I didn't want her to be ashamed of my body like I was so my brother stood in for me as a body model. He weighs 240.

She left me for him!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHH.....

(blubbering snd weeping)

It's definitely a matter of getting older and having different view on life and to what matters in the moment.

It took me a whole month to finish my first playthrough of the Dead Space Remake. 🙈 On the other hand i ramped up nearly a thousand hours in GT7 within a year. So there is still a lot of devotion for gaming in my life. It just changed in the way i approach games to when and if i even play them.

Hard for me to have a healthy seating position with my living room layout but i try to change to position i game in every 20-30 minutes and a may also do some stretching in between.

I'm playing a lot at the moment, maybe 2 hours a day. Probably more on weekends if I'm not doing anything.

I wouldn't say I'm addicted though, last year I barely turned on a console between Elden Ring and God of War. Just depends if it's now I chose to spend my time.

I had a hardcore FFXI addiction for 5 years. Like, it could have been a legitimate medical diagnosis.

I'm much better now! No MMOs ever again.
Lord of the Rings Online for me. I spent way too much time on it and I can't really understand why my wife (gf at the time) didn't leave my pathetic ass.

Probably. I play about 3-4 hours per night on weekdays and about 12 hours on the weekend. I don't let it interfere with responsibilities though as I take care of them before I start. I do mix it up by playing Rockband on real drums, some VR, and some Sim Racing so I'm not stationary all the time. Since I got my new audio system I sit back and listen to music for hours.

At what point is one addicted anyway? More than 6 hours every day?

addiction is more about not being able to stay away from something, not about how much you spend doing it.

there were times where I played 4 to 5 hours a day at minimum, but I never was addicted.
because I just as much had streaks where I didn't play anything at all, and when I had to basically bring myself to playing with friends because we agreed on it days before and I didn't wanna let them hang.

so if there's a hot new game I spend a lot of time playing, but during stretches where nothing interests me I barely touch any game at all

Then I am addicted.

I have sometimes long time periods where I just don't game that much (apart from the occasional MP session or just firing up a classic for a night).

When you been around for a long while and have practically played everything that could interest you across all console generations, it becomes a serious challenge to find new (or old) games that can seriously hold your interest.

Right now I'm pretty much just waiting for RE4 remake.

Wow 3 hours of sleep is brutal. I sacrifice my sleep too but rarely go below 5 hours. Edit: or do you mean 3 hours of gaming per night?

Usually three hours of gaming a night. I usually get about 5 hours of sleep a night depending on if I worked or not that day and how many hours I worked. I’m a PA and the wife is a NP so when I get off at 3am I usually sleep until 7am when the kids get up because she is heading out the door to either do rounds at the hospital or go into the office for 8ish. Those days are brutal especially if I have to be back in for 3pm that day and do another 12.

At 36 it’s a lot harder to stay up later compared to 26. I can’t imagine what 46 will be like.

I bet if you asked an avid football fan or baseball fan if they're addicted they’d probably give you the middle finger. Have you ever watched those in-depth ESPN shows? What about those people? They have to understand their medium just like video game players tend to understand the industry.

I replace TV Shows and Movies with Video Games. That’s better time spent. People who tend to discuss video game addiction also discuss all the Netflix shows they watch. It’s bogus and we also have a ton of non gamers discussing video game addiction like they’re the experts. When I was back in college I heard about video game addiction from people who probably never played a game beyond solitaire.

I’ve spent lots of time playing games for over 30 years and I’ve also not turned on a game because it didn’t sound great at the time. I can play a game I’m looking forward to for hours on end and then forget about it until something sparks my interest again.

When I was a teen and in my early 20’s I could stay up late and play. I don’t need to do that now. I’d much rather use my hobby time to play or play when I feel like it. I don’t need something to watch like CSI or Law & Order. I’d much rather play a Naughty Dog game or some other title. I’m also not big into multiplayer so it’s weird to me to hear about addiction. People should cancel their Netflix or Disney+ if we want to make a 1:1. Is that an addiction or just a service fee? It’s also case specific. I’m not the kid or guy failing at my duties over an online game. I game 1-3 hours a day and more on weekends. Sometimes it’s 0, but I keep playing when I can.

Nah, It's not so much as the money spending but the time spending...sounds like you've got a fairly decent hold on things (so far) 👍

Don't forget that n' you'll be fine.

I get about 30 min a day too after everyone goes to sleep even if I wanted to game longer than that I'd start falling asleep. I'm a lil more lucky on the weekends if there's nothing going but thats rare too. Maybe 1-2 hours a day on the weekends.

It's a gift and a curse. I'm finally at a point in life where I can buy whatever I want gaming related. Have all the modern consoles, portables, vr and gaming pc but no time to really play.

So glad I never got into MMOs. I know so many people who got lost in them.

Reaaaaally depends on my mood, things going on socially, etc.

Like with all my hobbies, I go in cycles of playing a TON for months to very little for a month or so.

You know you are addicted once you quit and feel different, like something is missing. It`s the anxiety of having to find something else to fill that hole.

No, used to be when I was a teen. Now i'm hardly in the mood to boot up anything and rather scroll through YouTube or read.

I still follow the industry though, inside stories on game development is somehow way more engaging to me that actually playing one.
