Suck it Gamestop.
Microsoft intends to incorporate some sort of anti-used game system as part of their so-called Xbox 720.
I heard SEGA Tv is coming back with the next Xbox.
I actually wish this was true
wait, so if i buy a used console AND used games that have been played on that console i'm good right ?
So next time you want to borrow games from a friend you can, you just have to borrow his console as well.
Usually if I buy a used game it's from the prior generation. I'm thinking of grabbing Grandia III from GameStop for example, just so I don't miss out on it period and because I liked the first two games plenty, but if the worst case scenario happens for this Xbox (no guaranteed digital release in addition to tying games to a system) I couldn't do the same when the next-next Xbox rolls around.Have gone without buying a single used game this gen, never sold away anything that I bought either... but I sure as hell hope that with this initiative comes lower game prices. Wishful thinking, I know...
Microsoft surely realizes that attempting to incorporate used game prevention (which is idiotic) is like painting a gigantic bullseye on their system for the hacking community, right? It's an open invitation to allow all the so called 'freedom fighters' and various idiots in the 'scene' to converge on this thing with a vengeance. Ah well.
I wouldn't doubt if c4eva and team completely mutilates this thing a month after release.
So what about this.
>New xbox comes with kinect by default
>Also comes with 3g in the box, not available for anything else but game registration
>Games come with a barcode
>You have to scan the barcode with kinect, it gets tied to the console/account
>After registration you can even throw the disc away, a digital download for that game is tied to that console/account
thougths?

What's funny to me is I just proposed this EXACT configuration to someone today at work, down to the always-on 3G for registration only.
The big problem that I'm sure everyone else has pointed out in this thread is that MS is not competing in a vacuum. Is MS went anti-used-games and Nintendo and Sony did not, you can bet your sweet bunny boots that would be a "$599" level of screw-up on their part. People would not be able to ditch MS fast enough once they found out.
I honestly don't see what's so bad in an anti-used game system. In a couple years most games will be offered digitally for the same prices you'd find them used in your local game shop.

There would be another side to it, perhaps third parties would be more prone to support the Microsoft console, either because of a belief in higher software sales or actual higher software sales.
Nobody has dev kits? Thats 100% bullshit, considering my insider at Blizzard who is working on the Titan framework has had access to a near final "next Xbox" dev kit since November. He wont tell me the details, he can't and even eluding to the dev kit in general was a dog and pony show because he is under NDA personally signed. Next xbox dev kits are in the wild, whether or not they are final and the specs are another discussion but they are out there that I can say.
edit. When I say, near final "next Xbox" that means in November of 2011 they were send their second version of the successor dev kit, this one in closer to final looking casing and instructions to focus on the new specs.
Interesting. Tie him down and say it's "red hot poker time" till he blabs.
He said the specs were nice enough to cause a buzz in the small team that had access to it currently. That team is restricted to framework engineers and higher level directors, knowledge of it outside of them doesn't exist in the company.
They wouldn't need to scan anything or enter codes. They could just have a unique, readable serial on each disc like DIVX did way back in'98.
CD Keys? Dead on arrival if true.
That would increase disc production costs, which is my guess as to why DIVX discs cost as much as ~$5 each to "rent": it all came down to costs. Just a theory, though. .
Yeah because what Microsoft wants to do is piss off the largest video game retailer in America.

Kotaku going to have a field day.
They wouldn't be if the console manufacturers got together and decided to bury them.

I wonder if that'd be illegal? And anyways GameStop IS performing a vital function, even if they perform it in a reprehensible manner (along with other crap), I prefer giving them as little business as possible unless they're matching how I'd prefer them to be run (see: Grandia III example above) but they're still a significant gateway to niche games and finding older ones without resorting to online shopping, possibly from dubious merchants. To cut them off without a matching rise in DD would critically undermine niche games and make finding older ones that much harder, nevermind if the worst case scenario for an anti-used games system comes into play. They wouldn't be if the console manufacturers got together and decided to bury them.

Rumor Xbox 3 will run on worms and only play worm games like Worms Armageddon and Worms World Party

Yeah, killing off the biggest dedicated bricks and mortar retailer in the US would be a great thing for the industry.
Some of us also sell back games and use that money to fund purchasing more games and trade games too.I'm ok with the anti-used game stuff.
Not sure why GAF is so turned off by that. Yeah the playing borrowed games thing would suck but seriously between GAF and YouTube, it should be pretty damn easy to determine a worthy purchase.

Pricedrop for current generation hardware + vague details about the next Xbox would not be so weird. If MS even MENTION a next gen console they will kill off millions of sales for the next year.
Even they could not be so stupid.
if the industry plans to go digital may be it would.
Better to kill because of actual progress than actively antagonizing them and your customers.if the industry plans to go digital may be it would.
Anti-used game system means no MS system for me next go-around.
I won't support any of that crap. That's infringing on personal rights as a consumer.
