Ok. Next time Ubi do this AT THE SAME TIME you release the console versions.

If I knew this was coming I'd have probably waited.

I have it on PS3 and this is a game that would feel better on the TV. Great for PC only players though as the game is amazing!!

A lotta hate in this thread.... :( I like Ubisoft. They removd the ACreed DRM mostly so yea, never had an issue

Except they've clearly stated ZERO DRM on the retail version.
If this game tanks on PC, what's that going to say? "Changing our DRM policies will have no effect on sales, stop listening to the whining PC audience."
Buy this not just because it's a great game, but to show Ubisoft that there's a market.

Or we could not buy it, at all, and show Ubisoft that PC gamers won't take their bullshit.

This MAY be because the retail version tanked. A PC port to appeal to the fanboys may be a last-ditch cash grab.

It's one I approve of, but still. Cash grab.

No.

Your move.

Some people just want to buy the digital version. The decision to make the retail version drm free but not the digital version is pretty stupid.

I can't buy retail games, no one sell PC games here, except Diablo II and Warcraft III, the only way I can have the retail version it's if I buy it from Amazon, but then, the game is a lot more expensive.
So yeah, for me it's only the digital version, and if that come with that DRM, the game doesn't worth it.

So they'll KEEP doing that bullshit. If this sells well, why wouldn't they change policy?

And even if they don't - you've got a DRM-free copy of one of the year's best games. Win-win.

There is nothing to suggest the digital versions have any DRM beyond their respective clients (Steam, Impulse, Origin, etc...)

We already went through this exact same process with PoP 2008. That game wasn't even an afterthought delayed release. I do not want to support Ubisoft at this point.

Gamersgate page seems to say tages, but I guess we'll have to wait for an official statement. But would anyone really be surprised it if really does use tages?

Exactly. Selling on Steam comes with a small level of DRM by default. They can't say that the digital versions are DRM-free, because if they did they couldn't sell it through those platforms.

Get the full details, then raise the pitchforks people.

so what your saying:

Ubisoft add's drm to a game : DON'T BUY IT GUYS!

Ubisoft add's no drm to a game : DON'T BUY IT GUYS!

What I'm saying, which I said in my first post in this thread is, do not support Ubisoft. I didn't change my mind after they mentioned not having DRM. DRM isn't the sole reason I do not support Ubisoft, it's just one of many.

What about WII :(.

So the 360/ps3 versions were native 1080p? Wonder if the PC version will have anything extra visually to separate itself

Wii and Xbox 360, as well. ;)

Hopefully it'll help the game make a bit of money now it's available on so many platforms. I have a feeling it'll do well on handhelds.

I know that Ubisoft record is nothing to reassure us but I honestly think (for the little that it's worth what I think) that that Gamersgate page is more likely to be only a placeholder. We'll see.

I really hope so. It's such a stupid idea that they'd be willing to do go DRM-free at retail and actually use TAGES for digital services. Please be wrong.

So wait, what's the point of the digital version having DRM if the retail version doesn't? Wouldn't people just pirate that one?

I'm so confused.

Yeah, it doesn't really make sense. The DRM-free retail version will undermine the DRM in the digital versions. The DRM in the digital versions will serve no purpose other than to inconvenience legit customers. I guess we'll see how things develop, hopefully that's just a placeholder.

Capcom has likely set a pretty good example with Sonic Generations, and I'd like to think it's been fairly profitable for them. And well, let's not forget Skyrim if we look outside the platforming genre. Publishers know there's a PC audience out there willing to buy games...there's enough evidence for that at this point. I don't think Rayman would do much to change their minds, especially when it flopped on the consoles anyways.
Rayman itself probably won't (well except for people making 2D platformers, which saddens me greatly) but I like to think Ubisoft has some decent influence on the industry. And if the game flops on PC there is no doubt in my mind they'll talk about it whenever they get the chance. Tho I can't lie I want it to do good and see the outcome from both Ubisoft and other devs

I didn't know Capcom published SG, that's interesting. Also I think the success of that game was because of the sale on Christmas period. I had no intention of buying it yet I saw dozens of ads/bundles on Steam.

edit, sonofa! They didn't publish SG at all :p

A better controller. I can play this with any controller I want. On console I can't.
What controller you use? Saturn?

Yessss this and my account was approved, was so sad there wasnt a PC version. Will buy even with DRM, this game deserves a lot of sales. So excited.

Sweet mine too :D*high-five*. But yep really looking forward for this since I bought this game for my cousins and it was awesome!(as a Christmas present) Staying up playing the game to 4 o'clock. Good times, good times. And now I can get this on my laptop, so happy that I bought a gaming laptop, gonna be awesome to sleep over at my friends house :).

Ubi is testing something out. The game already tanked on consoles so the hope that PC will be their saving grace is a lost cause and they know it. I truly believe that they decided to put it on PC because they just don't give a fuck anymore. What would they be protecting by keeping it off PC or adding a bunch of DRM? Something that made them no real money anyway? So even if it gets pirated to hell and back, some PC money is better than no PC money and at the same time they can conduct their little experaments.

Wonder if it'll pop up on Steam, and if it'll only have Steam DRM there. It'd be dumb to throw DRM on the Steam version beyond what's innately there (though Skyrim showed even that wasn't necessary), but this IS coming from the company that thought an always on connection was a great idea when paired with unreliable servers.

I think you misunderstood. The thing which makes no sense is that, at this stage, it appears that the boxed version will have no additional DRM but the digital versions will. So either Ubisoft thinks that torrents only come from digital copies of games or someone fucked up and the digital versions will also be DRM free.

Which is hilarious, because piracy already existed way before DD.

I was thinking of getting the Wii version and using Dolphin to play it on PC, but I figure the game would come to PC sooner rather than later, glad I waited.

I'll get the digital version for sure as long as it doesn't has extra DRM compared to the boxed version.

And a quick and utterly unscientific survey shows that the versions of their games available on popular torrent sites are the retail DVDs. Crazy stuff. I reckon the info on DRM is just incomplete, it doesn't make any sense right now.

ok. I'll remember to play the pc version on a tv.

Do people still even play PC games on monitors?

Uhhh... yeah? I have a 720p TV and a 1680x1050 monitor, so it's going to look sharper on my monitor even if the picture's smaller (though with a 26 inch TV it's not going to be MUCH bigger on the TV anyway).

If you're got a 360/PS3 is there even really much point in getting it on PC? Pretty sure its 60fps + 1080p already on console + cheevo support.

I don't think it is a place holder. One of the Rock Paper Shotgun editors has been talking with the UBI rep on twitter and the UBI rep basically stated only the retail version is DRM free. Which is a strange move since PC is all about digital nowadays.
