Achieve Trophies | February 2012 Thread | GraveRobber's Wrath: Reckoning

Playing through AC: Revelaitons at the moment, love it! The platinum seems doable as well, I've collected all the pages and fragments, so that's the worst out of the way already.
But, since I'm borrowing this, is it possible to get all the online trophies by using the 3 day trial?

Speaking of online trophies, does anyone have a copy of FUEL for the PS3 who'd be willing to help me knock out the last three trophies? I've put almost 60 hours into this game and it kind of sucks seeing it stuck at 95% because the online is dead. It'll probably only take about an hour or two to finish up.

ATM I'm trying to get some Trophies in Ratchet and Clank 4, afterwhich I'll start working on my FF13-2 Platinum.

While working my way through Reckoning, I had a weird hankering to play FF13. It's probably a mix of wanting to try 13-2 and wanting to play something I can shut my brain off and grind mindlessly through. I'm going to attempt a platinum out of it this time around. Trying not to think about what I just got myself into though lol.

I don't know what trigger switched in my brain the moment I earned my first platinum, but for the last few months they're all I think about. I haven't played any singleplayer/story-driven games in awhile, so I'm glad I found reason to revisit games in my library. Anyway, I was looking at the trophy lists for new releases and saw this trophy from Twisted Metal:

All Sales Are Final
Win at least 1 Ranked Online game per day for 30 straight days.

I was sure torture was against the Geneva Conventions. It's expected that a multiplayer game would include multiplayer trophies. Even asking players to win 30 ranked matches would be reasonable because all that is required is participation and a bit of persistence... but one ranked win a day for a month? Who thought this was reasonable. No, a more important question - who thought this was fun? What if someone's internet provider takes a day off? What if the game's servers crash? Trophies and achievements should reward participation and skill; this is bonkers. I get they wanted a trophy to reward the ultra-hardcore online players, but wouldn't their high rank be rewarding enough? Who is for trophies such as this and who is opposed?

Er-if Ranked includes Team modes, that's about 1-4 hours MAX working with a good team to get a win. Do-able.

I understand it's possible. The problem isn't winning; it's committing to a match a day for 30 days. What if the servers or your ISP goes AWOL for a day? I did not buy Twisted Metal so it does not affect me. All I'm saying is the trophy design is bogus.

On an unrelated note, I was planning on purchasing Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection because I love Genesis games and it looked like a one-day platinum. I learned unlocking one of the games is impossible without a second controller. I also learned this game is not available as a download (I would need to buy the physical disc). Finally, I learned this game is $20. I already own the Genesis Collection on PSP and a few Genesis cartridges, and was just looking to use this as a casual platinum and a way to have Kid Chameleon on my PS3 harddrive. Looks like it's no dice.

Slowly creeping towards platinum on Call of Duty Classic.

Fuck is this ever hard on a console. I finished this on veteran multiple times on pc with no problems..

If I get the platinum its going to be one of the hardest i've earnt easily. Still better then the shit they put out today as well.
Just got to the Tank factory with the russians. So not long to go now.

I bought Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning because I was bored. The demo of the game gave me the impression the game was shit... but

THIS GAME. Holy shit it's addicting! It's like Skyrim all over again, but BETTER. I'm so glad I bought it. This is going to be a fun Plat, pretty much every trophy is just "play the game a lot"

My R&C4 disc wasn't ejecting from my PS3 so I took it to a shop to have them eject it, so I should get my console back tomorrow again.
I've only got 1 more trophy I wanna get out of it, so hopefully when I get my PS3 back the disc'll eject properly ^_^;

...but anyways after R&C4, I'll start El Shaddai~

God dammit, finished cod classic on veteran. Waiting for plat to pop up..... Nothing! Difficulty trophies don't stack! My biggest pet hate! Luckily it's gonna be easy as hell compared to veteran but don't think I can drag myself through it another 2 times.

I remember some type of glitch where you only had to complete the game once then redo the last level on the other difficulties. Maybe it was a gamesave glitch.

I just got 1000/1000 on Skyrim yesterday. First I got the Platinum in it then traded the game for the 360 version to do it all again! Working on getting the 100% trophy in the first Magic The Gathering game on PS3. I've been looking at the solo zombies glitch in Black Ops so I may give that a go as they are the only ones I really need for Platinum.

Just a heads-up we've added preliminary support for tracking Vita activity on Exophase.com. Believe we're the first trophy site to do so. Some games may still be missing due to the way we add these but at least 90% of the Vita library is trackable now!

Awesome! An example to the other gamercard sites.

Me too. Don't think I'm able to do it by myself though with two controllers, way too much work :D

Skyrim is taking me ages, I didn't set out to platinum it and just play through it.

3 characters later and like 300 hours and I'm finding myself with still a few to go, I should have really planned better, I said I would leave Lego Harry Potter Y5-7 till after I got the Skyrim Platinum which I didnt expect to take so long, lol.

Finished up Final Fantasy XIII-2 for my 136th completed game. What a disappointing piece of shit, I hope that all the planned DLC is without Achievements, I don't want to take 1 more step into that mess of a game.

I platinumed it just now as well. Took me 37 hours on normal. Enjoyable ride, but the story....

holy shit, kupo.

Busy month on the non-gaming side (read: work) for me this February, but I'll make time for Vita. Going to enjoy platinuming Rayman again, but this time on the can!

Phew, finished with the online trophies for AC:Revelations. Pretty tired from all the gaming, but at least I had something to do while I was/am sick. Next, I'll do the rest of the singleplayer, which shouldn't be too bad, then I might play some Skyrim, Resident Evil 5 or Hot pursuit. Won't be buying anything new until Mass Effect 3 comes out.

Nightwing Predator Expert, I do so well on first map it's become fucking second nature, second map with that AURA Mod.... FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!

I finished all Catwoman & Robins Combat/Predator Challenges, only Combat left for Nightwing, then it's all the fucking Campaign challenges
(Fucking Rocksteady and their only Bronze trophies for all these challenges, they must have an ass load of DLC planned for the future (has to be, no way they leaving the game like this), cause doing all that for Bronze is insane)

I somehow did the hardest Catwoman Campaign challenges the Predator Expert/Master
(I think I blacked out, no fucking clue how I did those, it was an out of body experience)

Most say Catwoman > Robin > Nightwing in difficulty wise for all the challenges, but the last one on Nightwing is pissing me the fuck off

Hate Catwoman can't ride on the titans =/, fucking aholes

Come back when you have to get all the awards a la BC1 if you want to bitch about online trophies like that, I'd understand. But playing the game for 30 days straight and only having to win one round per day isn't a bad thing.

Also Platinum 25 is MGS3. Yay. Leaves Peace Walker since I'm not sure I want to add MGS2 to my list since 1) it's bad and 2) has stupid Euro Extreme requirements.

Yeah, it's bullshit, you need to save after each confirmed shot too...

I actually didn't mind that so much. The trick is to use your directional mic to make sure you hit the kerotans in each segment. And even if you miss a frog at some point in the game, like I did, they carry over to your next save. I missed one right at the beginning, so I got the platinum right at the beginning of my second playthrough.

As for MGS2, there are no dog tags in European Extreme, so you don't need to do it. You just need to do Extreme, which was honestly pretty easy. The hardest part of the game for me was grinding through the VR Missions. So boring. Even more boring than finishing the Plant 5 times and that's saying a bit.

Anyway, 27% in Kingdoms of Amalur. This is going to take a while, I keep getting distracted by side quests.

Bought a uDraw and its three games. Gonna try and platinum those before the Vita arrives.

Yeah I Bought it on 360 and rented the games. There is only a couple of achievements that are challenging on the Art Studio game. Everything else is extremely easy.

Finished KOA Reckoning on hard. About 15 achievements left. The only one that might be hard is getting 50 persuasion attempts.

Okay, so I'm almost finished with AC: Revelations, but I can't get the Tax Evasion trophy. I've tried some of the tricks I found online, but no luck so far. How the hell am I supposed to make him spawn?

Just run around the main island

He will show up eventually, he's not that hard to appear, throughout my gameplay sessions I got him to appear 10+ times, got good $$$ out of him too, always 4 digit amounts

Just keep a watch on your radar, you see red coin purse icon, start the chase
(Tackle him, don't kill him you become Notorious for that)

So true. Have gotten everything except Maze Master (40 mazes in 40 minutes) and the 5 tilt coloring challenges. I did move onto the Marvel game because I was getting tired with the coloring game.

Finally got him, he appeared just as I was about to give up. Now I'll just leave the ps3 on for a bit to earn some money, delete the patch and go buy the remaining books.

More than a little annoyed. I've gotten a couple more Castlevania trophies. I finished all the trials through Chapter IV, on Paladin difficulty, and I'm about halfway done with Chapter V. I'm at the mirror puzzle one in 2:30 one. Not looking forward to playing it 20 times, but I'm sure that's what it'll come to.

But my frustration actually stems from Trine. I finished the game on Normal, I gathered all the experience and treasures, and I have a few of the secret trophies. Before coming to work today, I sat for like 25 minutes and tried to get the trophy for creating 500 items with magic in a level. It's so incredibly stupid. I'm sitting, drawing lines back and forth, creating platforms. I'm not accomplishing anything. I won't feel good when I actually get 500, I'll feel pathetic because I had nothing better to do than to sit around and do this for 30+ minutes. It's not an achievement, it's an indictment. 500 items? You MIGHT make 50 or 60 when you're playing through a level, and you're generous with the wizard. Whoever thought up this trophy deserves a bullet in the back of the head. Nyargh.

I'm not "bitching." I'm discussing design. I said in my post I don't own Twisted Metal; it's not as if I'm losing sleep over this. My attitude toward online trophies is different than most players' and I can accept that. What confuses me is how such trophies are standard affair while shooting Kerotans is egregious despite being able to follow a guide, save and replay mistaken sections, and can be completed at one's own pace. I did it on PS2 and a trophy or a platinum wasn't the point. I did it for that stealth camouflage. My criteria for in-game challenges is not, "Is this doable," but rather, "Is this worth doing? Is this enjoyable?"

When I played Deus Ex: Human Revolution, I knew about the Pacifist and Foxiest trophies. I naturally played the game stealthily but went a lethal route. On my second playthrough, I went for both those trophies in one run. Those parameters forced me to play the game a lot differently and it felt so fresh. When a trophy challenges me to approach the game differently, it is a well-designed trophy. Trophies should reward skill or persistence (hundred-percenting a game). The trophy is only going to mean something to me. Completing the challenge has to be its own reward (or stealth camo can be the reward).

Agreed, although a lot of trophy hunters prefer the way of least resistance. :D

What bothers me more these days is that a lot of game have some sort of collectible thing to satisfy for an achievement. It can feel forced, because really who cares? Mostly in FPSes like CoD you see this. What does collecting all get me in-game? Nothing. Reward-ratio is poor on these things.

Deus-Ex was my favourite trophy list of last year, mainly because of the things you mentioned. Yes, it too had a collectible trophy, but the collectibles gave you experience anyway and were not in hard to find places if you searched through areas anyway (which you had to do anyway to find items and quests)

finished up several games this month, so i figured id post.

i had one achievement left on L4D2 that had been hanging on forever so i finished that one up for the full 1500.

finally finished up the full 1000 on Portal 2. that felt good.

went back and got my few remaining achievements for L4D1 that i needed. 1250 out of 1500. not sure if i want to buy the stupid Sacrifice DLC that i already bought for full price on L4D2. maybe if its one sale one day. kind of annoying though.

this weekend i got my last 3 achievements i needed for the full 1000 on Dead Space. had to finish up my last run i got burnt out on for the full upgrade weapons achievement, then started my final run on Impossible with just the plasma cutter for the last 2 achievements. wasnt too bad, a few spots were a bit tough.

im on a roll.

i actually dipped back into this game this month as well. i bought it last year and got every achievement except for the veteran run. got maybe 1/2 of the way through before i got burnt out. bad news because going back after youve lost some skills can be tough.

i fired it up late one night when i was bored and got through about 1/2 of a level.

definitly a hard game. if i put in the hours i can do it, but i need to be in the right mind set for something like this.

did you ever beat W@W on Veteran? i got burnt out on that one too about half way through. the only other COD that i havent beat on Vet yet. not sure if ill bother though because of some other seriously bullshit achievements in that game that ill probably not bother with.

fucking grenade spam anyways. who needs that headache?

So what's the process you guys go through before starting a game? Do you take a look at the trophy list and actively try and go for it while playing? You print out the trophy list and have it sitting next to you?

Curious to how you all approach it

I look at what the missable trophies are and then see what the recommended roadmap is. Focus on those missable trophies first, the rest later

This is how I do it too. Well, depending on the game. When I played through Lost Odyssey, I didn't want to be continually looking at a guide, so I just played through it normally, then did another run for the treasures. Usually though, I'll look at the guide for the missable achievements, then focus on nailing them. It means I can still enjoy the game, but I won't be forced to do another playthrough. I always have my laptop beside me while gaming, so no need to print anything.

Unrelated, I finished off Sonic Adventure the other day. Having never played it in the past, it took me a while to get comfortable with it. Well, as comfortable as one can get with the worst camera in the history of games. Seriously, sometimes the camera would literally show me the other side of a wall if I got near it. Sometimes it would go underground. I'm not sure how, but I apparently spent 50 hours playing it...10 of those hours were most likely spent fishing with Big.

Next up is D&D: Daggerdale. It's a bit of a grindfest, but not too bad of a game. In saying that, it's meant to be real glitchy, so I'll probably be back here in a couple of days bitching.

Yeah finished it on veteran now and ran through on hardened in about 3 1/2 hours lol felt like playing on easy mode with health packs. One more run on regular even quicker and ill have the plat.

Yeah finished all the cod on Xbox 1000/1000 until modern warfare 2 when i got a Ps3.

W@W was quite easy until the second to last level holy shit. Grenade spam takes on a different meaning on that one. there is literally 10 indicators around you. Need massive amounts of luck and push forward as quick as possible.
At least in call of duty 1 there is no spawn cupboards. apart from certain levels (pavlovs house) But that level can be cheesed by sitting on wooden ledge outside of the third floor.

No one comes for you and the few enemies that appear down by the snow can hit you for crap so its like a turkey shoot. Without that i would of given up on this game a long time ago.

I prefer to only look up the achievement guide for missable achievements. Depending on the nature of the missable achievement, I'll look up exactly how to get the missable achievement. But I really hate when reading about them spoils the storyline.

My usual preference, especially for games that require multiple playthroughs, is to play the game comepletely blind at first and then focus on achievements (missable or otherwise) in a different playthrough.

But like the other dude says sometimes you can save yourself unnecessary playthroughs. With Alan Wake for example, there's really absolutely no reason to worry about missable achievements in your first playthrough. You're going to play the game three times (hard playthrough, nightmare playthrough, collectible playthrough). So with Alan Wake you just jump in blind. But with Arkham Asylum I saved myself an extra playthrough by looking up its infamous "party pooper" achievement. I probably spoiled myself too which is lame. Oh well.

Hmmm I personally do check a game's trophy guide on the net first to see what trophies are missable, etc.
However I don't always read the full guide until after I beat the game. If there are missable trophies I try to read as little about them as possible so that when I get to the part of the game with the missable trophy, I check a guide to try and get it.

Medal of Honor: Frontline next? I found it even worse than CoD Classic. It has the same sort of primitive design (though worse because Frontline was no Allied Assault) but no checkpoints. Die and you're back to the start of the level. It can be incredibly frustrating.

I look at what the missable trophies are and then see what the recommended roadmap is. Focus on those missable trophies first, the rest later

Yeah this is what I do as well. I also pay attention to the estimated time it takes to platinum. If it's short, I don't worry so much the first time through but if it isn't then I try to get everything as quickly and efficiently as possible.

I also tend to copy and paste whatever missable trophies or ones that I'm going for into a txt document. It just helps me put them in order (because trophy guides will often have them completely out of order for some dumb reason) and is a lot easier to quickly reference than a website.

No thanks on Frontline, I remember the torture of playing that on the PS2! COD Classic will be my 30th Plat and my second this month along with Jak and Daxter. I have decided to go back to Aragorns quest next to clear up the shire missions without it glitching to hopefully get 3 this month.

Then i should really work on the red rings in sonic generations and my second playthrough of Uncharted 3 aong with starting Jak 2.

My backlog is huge, When Mass effect 3 comes out ill be stopping everything for that. Although that will be my only new purchase this year so far. Im yet to buy ff 13-2 the only ff ive not bought on launch day with a guide. I feel dirty but 17.99 is around the corner. :D

This. Hate having to go back through a lengthy game because you didn't look at a specific item or watch a particular scene, so the 'missable' guides at least give a nice heads up on these. Also tend to find a list of the collectibles just to hit them all on the first run, because again trying to hunt down that last one that you're not quite sure of where you left it sucks.

Game-wise, finished off Jak 2 over the weekend and just glad to be done with it. Bad check-pointing and horrible difficulty spikes combined with bad shooting controls just isn't fun. I'm hoping ND made some improvements for Jak 3 or it's going to be a painful ride...

Wrapped up The Darkness II over the weekend, very enjoyable /1000, no annoying mandatory online achievements to junk it up. Don difficulty is a joke on New Game+. 90th completed game… inching ever so closer to 200k!
