Street Fighter X Tekken |OT| Truly, truly outrageous~

Seems I'll be following the current standard of gem free tourneys for the one I'm running. Any easy way to shut them off?

Also, is there tourney organizing software for iPhones?

The only way would be to go to each character and set their default to 0 0 0, tell each player that no gems are allowed, make it an auto-dq to set gems, just trust players won't let eachother use gems.

That'd be my approach anyway.

So any Steve players here found a solid BnB to go to off of either his hook launch, or off of the Forward MP, Lp, flicker cancel?

I feel as if my experimenting with him on my own never gets me that far, and I'll just have to borrow someone elses work on finding a good combo.

Just give it up lol, unless you got the patience to figure out how you can be offensively effective with him, he is a cool character but if you try to use him like Balrog or even Dudley you'll lose out.

Anyway...

I didn't want to play them, but Ryu x Ken make a hell of a team go figure. When I play them I feel like I am watching Street Fighter: the animated movie 2012

how can I force my partner to come out when I am doing special move with the first character. I managed to do it with normal combo but for some reason, I can't make special tag out during special moves as I saw on combo video

You have to have 1 meter to do that, that the tag cancel.

Make sure that you have 1 bar of meter.

Also, you have to hit mp+mk during impact of the move. You can't necessarily do it during any point of the animation

I just need to see it in action for myself on how people are mounting an offense so I can copy it. Like Abel mix ups in SF4 and how to scare people on their wake up made no sense to me till I saw Ryder do it on break streams and it finally clicked for me.

Steve is way too bad ass to just give up on after only a few days of the game being out. I can do flicker cancel no problem, so I don't feel his execution is past me. I just need to know what to fish for, what to confirm into when it lands, and probably where his good range to sit in to make use of what to be going for.

i found the timing to be relatively strict. i try to do them as soon as it makes hits.

and wtf is going on with guile/abel's story? lol

the teamwork concept is very interesting. cross assault would produce some hype moments i think.

Are you possibly talking about Scramble mode? I'm personally talking about 2 vs 2 tag mode, not scramble, though I can't speak for others. Can't really see how one could consider 2 vs 2 tag mode in SFxT to be a novelty, with Cross Assault and the partner tag-in combos it totally looks to be the flagship mode in my book.

Honestly I find even 1 vs 1 games to be far better in team competition. I like the dynamics of who can best pull their weight on a team interesting, as well as bringing in more characters and matchups into the fray (assuming usual only one character per team rules). I find both AE and UMVC3 to be far more hype as team games as opposed to singles. So personally I'm in the camp that would love to see SFxT as a team game in as many big competitions.

It's easy to see now why antiairs don't have as much priority in this game. You can confirm into big damage off of antiairs and it's a lot easier to set up a favorable oki situation afterwards. Antiairs in SF4 are a lot more linear in their damage/follow-up options.

It's not really true that antiairs aren't good in this game. They're gdlk. They just don't have as much hit priority as some are used to.

i'm hoping it just becomes common. teamplay adds a thick layer of drama. my locals voted for it for our first tourney.

Agreed. It's a lot different from MK's 2v2. MK's 2v2 is a competely different game.

All i see in online matches are Default Colour and Black & White, How many colours pre-character are in this game, excluding DLC?

I would have liked a seperate ranking for 2v2 online honestly. It'd be nice to see who the best paired duo is and their shared BP for it.

I haven't dabbled in tag team yet with my buddies online, but I probably will this weekend. Still not sure who I'll play though to mesh my character with theirs. If I play Rolento I like point and meter building so they can have the meter to deal dat damage, but if they are already doing a character similar to him, then I need a beefy hitter like Kazuya or Marduk.

You should probably stick to player matches to cleans your palette. It is always less salt when you're playing the same guy over and over.

Problem is that I can't get a match save for random ranked matchmaking.

I can make a 2 player lobby and wait an hour to get nothing, ports are open and everything.

You can confirm into

I'm sorry for the noobish question: I am a very casual player, but looking to get more into it with this game. What does "confirm into" mean? I've been reading that term a lot, so I'm guessing it's important.

While I'm at it, what does "footsies" mean? Is that just referring to crouching kicks, or staying in kicking range?

I haven't tried anything but ranked on this game so I'm not sure. Maybe search for a lobby?

I miss the 3rd Strike on Xbox 1 days. No ranked, just wins/losses. Find someone, play as many matches as you want. I feel like that's more fun.

I'm not sure why everyone can't just use the default gem set - every character has two of three slots set by default, and the default gems are nothing controversial or weird like assist gems. They're just basic level 1 power, speed, and defense, depending on the character.

It seems easier than going through and manually clearing every single character's gem units...

Just tell players they're not allowed to enter the customize screen and fiddle with the gem settings on the stations they are playing at.

I'm starting to see why the improved jumping attacks in this game. Because if you get knocked out of the air with a counterhit it leads into DAMAGE.

I was messing around with ryu's cr. hp aa and his best option is to dash cancel into x. If you don't get a counterhit you're right in their face for your choice of pressure. If you botch the dash the hadoken comes out and juggles them. If you do it right you can do hp srk or cr. hp into ex srk, super or crossart for like 400-600 damage. If you want to be tricky you can end with sweep canceled into a charged fireball and store a counterhit.

Juri has a really strong AA game too. Cr. hp leads to mega damage anywhere regardless of counterhit but she gets solid damage off counter hit cr. mp too.

Now I need to find out what Kazuya and Steve are capable of :3

Can we just think for a moment how much critical praise this game would have gotten if all of the content on the disc was unlocked from the beginning? Save for complaints about the online (and the controversy about gems), we'd mostly be hearing...
"50 unique characters!"
"Two fun alternate costumes!"
"A variety of colors to customize your character with."
"One of the most complete fighters of this generation."
"Well worth the money."

It's a shame, really.

It could have been in the running for Fighting GotY! This years MK9!

The one core game mechanic I have major issues with is that the clock does not stop for a Cross Assault or Rush or w/e the two supers term is.

Some of them can take upwards of 15 seconds off the clock. I mean super arts take up time on their own, but this is just too much time in a fight being spent watching animations to be quite honest.

I would really like to see this patched so the timer doesn't go down during the two supers being played out.

Why should I be forced to use gems I wouldn't use? This defeats the entire purpose of gems. If you're going to force me to use gems I wouldn't, just don't use any.

Confirming: Seeing that you connected before continuing your combo.

Lets just say you can do a combo 123 into Super. If they block, you just wasted a super and you're exposed. During the 123 combo, if you see the hit happened, you go into super. If you see they blocked, you do something else. It's a test of reactions.

Footsies - the game of wiggling in and out of range of your opponent, trying to get a hit with your normals, trying to trick them into opening themselves up by sneaking out of their range and punishing their whiffed move. Basically the back and forth game.

Confirming a hit means that you have time to confirm that you hit someone with your first hit before going to the next hit.

Footsies is baiting people to make mistakes, like whiffs, and then punishing them, also its about controlling space/flow of the game.

Also, if I want to be logged in (DLC, etc.) and have already assigned some gems, I don't think there's a way back to default gem layouts.

Wow how are people playing this piece of shit with broken sound online? This shit is why there needs to be better open game return policies. No excuse for this broken shit.

This is probably a shitty example, but...

If you do a basic magic series chain (lp, mp, then hp) to an opponent and you don't know if it's gonna hit or be blocked, you can stop the chain at mp since mp for a lot of characters is gonna be (relatively) safe on block compared to the hp. The lp and the mp gives you enough time for your brain to go "oh, he blocked this" or "oh, he's getting hit" so you can follow through with the combo or stop it short and remain relatively safe from retaliation. This is a pretty basic example of hit confirming.

"Footsies" is a broad umbrella term for the things players do to maintain optimal spacing relative to their opponent. Maj here explains it a lot better than I ever could.

I either go with it or mute it and listen to music if it's bugging me to much.

Huh, just noticed the sound works perfectly while watching player matches in a lobby.

I would guess this is because everyone observing watches a delayed - and synchronized - version of the action.

I see your point. I suppose the way I'm looking at it is the default starter gems assigned to each character, appear to be "suggestions" for a basic gem loadout. Seems to be why each character has different starters - Law has speed gems, Heihachi has defense gems.

Just seems as if playing the game at default settings like that, with default suggestions, can't do much harm, until better configuration tools are available.

Regardless of whether there is an excuse for the game shipping like this, the game needs to be patched, not thrown away because it's never going to be fixed. It's a really good game, so most people are rolling their eyes and ignoring the sound until there's a patch. Most don't seem hair trigger ragey enough to run back to Gamestop and throw the case at the clerk's face, lol.

I've gotten used to it. It sucks the sound issues is still a problem but I'm dealing with it.

Actually it's gotten better. Slightly but better than the past couple of days.

So I think I found some unblockable or near unblockable resets. Use a special with a lot of hitstun(Law's EX machinegun upper for instance), then tag in your partner, walk or use a move that pushes them just out of the special, then cross them up. If they hold back to block the crossup, they walk into the special. If they backdash, they get hit by the jump attack. I didn't test for lock guard in this game, but if its there you can't walk back from the special. They can probably use a move to get out, but I'm sure it's character specific.

Obviously, this won't work in the corner.

Pretty sure this was explored a little bit on Cross Assault, and Xiaoyu has a move that forces a lot of blockstun, and you can do the same thing.

This is really good right now, but once more people start using alpha counters it's not gonna be as good.

Can we just realize that this content would never, ever have been made if not to sell separately? Not justifying it, just saying how it is.

In a perfect world, Capcom would pull a Valve and, you know, not be dicks and create content for the hell of it.
