will totally Facebook friend you! *giggle* *LOL*
I did feel the whole scene with Stark redeeming his early snobbish behavior with everyone by finally making the 'sacrifice play' that Cap said he wouldn't was kinda diminished by the fact that while it was all happening I knew a movie called IM3 was coming out in the future so therefore there was little to no risk to the character.

Oh well.
I thought it was diminished because it was another nuke. So many blockbusters these days end with a damn crazy person trying to nuke an American city. That shit need to be put on hold for a couple years.

Whedon is a master with group dynamics. Especially with the jokes. I remember reading Astonishing Xmen for the first time and actually busting out laughing. He was a perfect fit for this movie. He gets it. I still was in amazement while this movie was playing, this movie, actually got made!!!!!!

Call me crazy... but it didnt seem like mankind needed the avengers in this movie.
That was a pretty weak attack. A few worms and maybe less than a thousand alien soldiers.

And the aliens would keep coming and coming

And Loki would cause more chaos and turn regular human soldiers

Huh? Those worms were taking out entire skyscrapers just by existing. In 15 minutes the entire island of Manhattan was in ruins. The army scene showed them doing...exactly nothing.

Not to mention the hoards still coming through the portal, and that would've if not for Thor cramming it up.

I had no clue that Lou did Hulks voice in this film. All the more awesome.
The fuck? He had like two lines. I guess he's golden for life, though. :lol

MOTHER FUCKER. :D :D

Who is that ?

A scene that got a lot of laughs was after Cap breaks the heavy bag, he picks up another one, revealing 4 or five more bags. Very effective surprise, considering this scene was featured prominently in the Captain America film.

I also liked Stark and Banner's discussion of living with their "conditions". Really reinforced the bromance between the two characters.

So anyone else think that Avengers 3 will be the Civil War story line or something along those lines? Seems a lot of that was getting setup in 1.

Fuck Civil War. Piece of shit story lol. Plus it would make no sense in the MCU, since pretty much all the Marvel heroes in the MCU have NO SECRET IDENTITIES. :p

Well yeah that was my point though. They didnt show the army really doing anything. When in reality they probably would have done something.

Not to mention the hoards still coming through the portal, and that would've if not for Thor cramming it up.
In the scene where the nuke is coming up it seemed like they were pretty much out of soldiers. There was only a few left coming through.
Either way how many more could come through, have they met the Chinese?

Other motherships could have been en route

Well, considering nothing besides the Cosmic Cube's own energy could get through it the barrier, that would've just succeeded in utterly destroying all of NYC. And the portal still would've been open.

The building it was on would have been blown up. So unless the thing would have been floating in mid-air, something on this side of the door would've been messed up some how.

Maybe. Maybe not.

And if the Avengers weren't there, Loki would've been. He probably could've handled a missile.

Such as what? The army was taking forever to scramble and the national guard were being brushed aside. The military final solution was to nuke a island and kill their own citizens just to hopefully stop the portal.

i don't get this complaint. They destroyed a city in hours and that wasn't even their main force.

How so? The joining of different ends of the spectrum and conflict isn't really setting up anything in reference to Cvil War. That was simply the origins of Avengers, so in A2 they won't have to waste so much time covering each character and their interactions/meetups for the first time with one another, since they've gotten acquainted.. But yeah, Feige has said A3 might be good for Civil War.

I doubt it, though. Who knows. They certainly don't, yet. Even A2 isn't finalized, story wise.

What? No, it's a reasonable concept and a great idea. It does't necessarily need a lot of heroes, nor secret identities. It could be a small element of A3, but not a full blown out "civil war", just an element of the plot.

Not even hours. 30 minutes, tops.

OK, saw it again. Took my wife this time (went with a friend the first time round).

I believe I heard a Star Wars cue (TIE fighter, heard when Black Widow commandeers the Chitauri speeder) and a LOTR cue (Ring magic, heard when Hawkeye is in the cell recovering from mind control).

What are you, an interdimensional portal expert? Do you have a permit to shut down portals in this city? Let me see some identification.

Im told the Ultimate Avengers is good.
No, that actually kind of sucked. The Ultimates is what you want. Volume 1 is the best Vol. 2 is pretty good, and avoid Vol. 3 at all costs. Then comes Ultimate Avengers Vol. 1-3 with 6 issues each, which was meh imo.

So I'm keen to get a'reading some Avengers related comics. Where is a good place to start?

Ultimates. Very modern sensibilities, wonderful artwork, the Avengers film actually builds on some of it's ideas like Samuel L. Jackson Nick Fury

That one collects #1-13, but they are smaller collections that split them up and probably ship faster.

Vol.1

Vol.2

There's also a sequel, Ultimates 2. Not as good as the first one, but still awesome, same creative team and builds on ideas from the first one.

Here ya go

And finally there's Ultimates 3, which is bad. REALLY bad. REALLY REALLY BAD. Stay far away.

You know, it's kinda weirdly lucky in a way that Marvel made all those bad deals with Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and so many other properties. I mean, would we have The Avengers if they'd been able to ride off of characters and franchises that already had mass mainstream appeal? But since they couldn't do those characters, they took a chance and brought Iron Man and Thor and Captain America into the mainstream, and did a goddamn amazing job at it.

duckroll, will you marry me? :')

We can enter into a polygamous marriage. :)

Only good thing in Civil War is Cap beating Iron Man's ass.

And to those clamoring for Civil War, ask yourself this: do you want a movie with RDJ playing a fascist, asshole Iron Man?

I know where everyone's coming from, I just feel like those really poignant scenes where someone is risking their life don't fully work when you know from a meta perspective that their is in fact no risk to what they're doing.
That's one of my biggest problems with this movie and most superhero movies in general. There's literally zero risk involved for any of the characters, and it's incredibly predictable. But at the end of the day I suppose that's what most of the public wants? It's one of the reasons I think I'll enjoy TDKR more; I don't think Batman will be killed, but you never know with Nolan and his Batman universe. It will definitely be more tense. This movie was good if what you want is a well done, special effects driven action movie with some funny, lighthearted moments interwoven into it.

I know Whedon had some early meetings with Norton before Banner/Hulk was recast, but did Whedon push for Marvel to drop Norton?
"The Avengers" also introduces actor Mark Ruffalo as the new Bruce Banner, the third actor to play the character following Edward Norton and Eric Bana.

"There had been discussion as to where to take that character and where to take the part and Joss had some ideas; he came to us and said, 'I'd like to think about another actor,' and we said, 'Well, much of what we like about 'The Avengers' is we're taking all the actors we had before and putting them together again, so we said it depends on who you're thinking of -- if you're thinking of A, B or C maybe not, if you're thinking of Mark Ruffalo we'd be open to a conversation,'" Feige recalled. "And he goes, 'Holy shit!' and takes a list out of his pocket, and at the top of his list was Mark Ruffalo! We had said that because Mark had come very, very close to playing Banner in 'The Incredible Hulk,' which Joss had no idea, we never talked about it before.

"It was one of those moments when you're so deeply on the same page without even realizing it," Feige added.

Civil War sucks my buttocks. Terrible crossover. Terrible story. Terrible conclusion. Just awful.

Not only that, but Iron Man 2 already tackled a similar situation where Iron Man is against his position in the comics.

On the other hand, they could do a stupid contrived approximation of Civil War where the Government creates teh anti-Avengers with War Machine, Abomination, Winter Soldier, and Beta Ray Bill. Or mind control, that's a good one!

So how diverse where the crowds at where you saw the movie? I have to say I was seeing everything ethnic group, age range, soci-economic variable I could think of. It was truly one of the few films ALL of America wanted to see.

Why even watch any of these super hero movies then? You know pretty much how all of them will end. :/

I think that's exactly the same issue with TDKR as well because you know they won't kill batman just like in any super hero movie they won't kill the hero.

It doesn't bother me either way but I just don't know how anyone can say it would happen in any of the movies.

I saw my screening at a Klan Rally, don't know about you

sometimes its about the journey, not the destination. You know going in that there will be an invasion and the avengers will win. But the dialogue, some of the crazy action etc makes it worth watching.

edit: avengers 2 will likely also not really be a surprise. here's a sneak peek at what i expect:
