With regards to that "green and white" tease earlier. What about the GTAV logo?

Can someone make a good 'megaton' reaction gif? This is the exact time where I'd use one, but there just isn't one appropriate enough.

But yes, EXCELLENT point.

Some theories for UE4, GTAV and a 'massive' Retro title now :)

I would LOVE Mario Sunshine 2. In fact, I was slightly disappointed with the direction they took with Galaxy and would warmly welcome a return to bigger and more dynamic stages. I know it'll most likely not happy but I can dream.

I just still think that we're in a time right now where developers and (more so) publishers just don't understand what people want. They think that slapping a multiplayer mode is going to attract people, but it almost never works. The casual market enjoys Call of Duty, and they don't want to play a Call of Duty knock-off. Why play that when you can get the real thing for the same price?

You see, you have to differentiate yourself, and give people reasons to be interested in your game in the first place. I'm not saying all unique games sell well, or even most, but you definitely have a better shot than just trying to throw up another modern FPS, or tack-on a multiplayer mode. It just doesn't work, and if a lot of the casual market is leaving console gaming for a while, then you're just burning the main market you have left, which are the people that buy the majority of the non-Cods, Maddens, or Halos on the platform.

A good example is Assassin's Creed. The first game was pretty awful, but the mechanics and execution of it all was fairly unique, and as the sequels got better and better, more people got interested. Instead of a tacked on multiplayer, they felt like they delivered something unique, that has been improved upon since its introduction. People like unique ideas and concepts. They don't want a CoD clone, and they don't want a standard versus multiplayer. Do something unique, and people may give a shit. Follow the leader, and you're sure to fail.

EDIT: Typed this up before I saw EatChildren's post. Very good points. I agree with you, in that I think developers need to remember why these franchises were successful in the first place, and try to balance that while also improving and making certain aspects accessible.

What are they using? Is it likely just a proprietary drive that will rival Blu-Ray in terms of size?
It is a proprietary format similar to Blu-ray. It could simply be something similar to the production philosophies of the Nintendo optical disc that was produced for Gamecube and Wii in collaboration with Panasonic.

Singulus has, as mentioned before, something to do with the discs: http://www.singulus.de/uploads/media/2011_Singulus_01.pdf

BELIEVE!

I admit, I still haven't completed the game. But I love just booting it up and playing through the levels. I was so impressed with the locales and the graphics the first time I ever played SMS. I really hope they bring a HD version to the Wii U! I wouldn't mind a 3DS version either.

I really doubt they would save GTA for after the conference. Plus he said "E3" not conference.

EDIT: DAMMIT TheGreatMightPoo!

In the sense that, he'd finish watching the conference then start talking about it.

But now that I've re-read the actual quote again, god knows what it's pertaining to.

If anything, he might have said after E3 the earliest in case it's one of the surprises we'll see at E3. If it ends up being a no show, he might go ahead and tell us what it is. The more surprises left for the show the better ;)

This is pretty much exclusively a publisher problem. Their goal is to make as much money as possible, as far as possible. To appease shareholders. To make revenue. They find something that works, and repeat it until it has been dug into the ground. They look at what is working elsewhere, and clone it. It's stupid, dumb short sighted stop-gapping of your financial plan: make lots of money now, and fuck the future.

Ironically, this generation has seen the birth of a lot of cool, new franchises, but even then they're being dragged through the mud. 'Creed is doing well, but we didn't really need yearly iterations. Every game and its dog must have a whole social/multiplayer component, because single games are big and scary and we can't nickle and dime consumers if they're not stuck online (meanwhile, Skyrim sells a bazillion copies). I love social/multiplayer features, but they're rarely done right. Just another way to dick consumers and make as much money in the short term as possible.

So doesn't this mean it won't be at E3? I would think something this big would be at E3.

EDIT: Beaten.

Not neccessarily. He said he saw something that basically confirmed to him that the Wii-U name was sticking, but we wouldn't see it until after E3. Maybe he saw a retail box art design for GTAV. Considering actual box art designs won't be at E3 because we won't be learning launch details until a later date, that technically fits.

GTAV is pretty damn important. Not that it'll do that much for Wii U in itself, barring a timed exclusive or heavily marketed exclusive DLC, but its presence or absence will be one of the best indicators as to how Nintendo's Western third-party outreach is turing out - there's literally no chance that they haven't lobbied Rockstar hard for a port.

Rockstar doesn't give a shit about E3, for good reason, so nothing of theirs will make any appearance anywhere.

And why, exactly, are we believing this "green and white" shit? Does this poster have a history of accurate information? Are they known source? Or are they just saying a bunch of stuff. Because, with all due respect to said poster, there's a bunch of guys saying a bunch of stuff on lots of forums, and 99% of it is people making things up.

Yeah, it's more symbolism and a statement than anything helpful tangibly.

Wii U is teh kiddy and for casua.................GTA V BITCH.

It could be a silly argument ender, that serves a purpose enough!!!!

Sadly, true.

I do however, see the potential strong line between Nintendo having a good and bad E3 is the announcement of GTAV for its system. That's TKOAT, the symbolism they need.

And remember, Chinatown Wars was announced in Nintendo's conference.

No one believes him. Anything said here, by anyone, is taken with a grain of salt. I don't really know the poster or how credible he is, but it's fun to speculate. :p

Grain of salt, yup yup. That's just too vague for me to get truly excited. *shrug*

Honestly, what's stopping Nintendo from doing Galaxy 3?

Those games sell decently enough, and they could really show off the graphics well for a Mario game.

With them continuing certain Mario series, I don't see why this one can't be continued even further.

Clearly I got too close to the truth and Rockstar is pulling strings with gaf mods :p. How much are they paying you EC?!

Some people want them to move on from the Galaxy games.

My take is: How can you move on from such a wonderful template after just two games???

Not enough, let me tell you.

And remember, Chinatown Wars was announced in Nintendo's conference.

Chinatown Wars was supposed to be a big exclusive. It was a big deal for Nintendo at the time, and evidence of strong partnerships with a company that does well in areas Nintendo does not. Otherwise, Rockstar doesn't bother with E3. They're smart enough (and wealthy enough) to play their cards elsewhere, at their own leisure.

I would love Galaxy 3 if they did enough new things. They can really do anything in Galaxy. Big levels, small levels, 2D, etc.

Universe makes more sense though. :p

GTAIV was announced at E3 2006, though it wasn't actually shown. I don't think some sort of Wii U confirmation, assuming GTAV is actually coming to the platform, would be completely unprecedented.

Well me personally I told a certain poster that I was going to give him the benefit of the doubt until E3 so I might as well do it with all the other "prophets" as well.

Basically I got tired of playing bad cop and decided to try and enjoy the rest of the ride.

I love social/multiplayer features, but they're rarely done right. Just another way to dick consumers and make as much money in the short term as possible.

I mean, there has to be a point where these publishers see that nobody is buying their games, and that nobody plays the multiplayer mode(s), and then adjust to that, right? They can't be that out of touch, can they? If they're wasting time and resources in these multiplayer modes, couldn't they see that it could be spent elsewhere, for the better? Likely not, but I wish.

I mean, besides Skyrim, look at the thread we're in. Nintendo games like Mario, Donkey Kong, and Metroid have never really needed any form of multiplayer to be successful at all. They show that there's always an audience of people that just want a great single player experience. Sure, they've tested some multiplayer stuff with a few of those games like Metroid, but if they weren't successful, then they usually didn't continue trying to add them into future games, and they never felt like they detracted from the single player.

I think some game companies are starting to realize this, and hopefully they come to the realization that "just because it's there, it doesn't mean you need to use it" in correlation to the internet/online. I always keep in mind that this generation was the first that tried to fully tackle online features, so it's still a growing time, and everyone is still learning, but it also feels like a gold-rush, so to speak, because everyone is trying to grab a piece of the online market pie; same thing with the casual market. It has made many publishers and developers lose sight of long-term business models. Look at what happened to Guitar Hero. They were trying to squeeze every last sale out of the "casual market" by releasing these games on an almost bi-monthly basis, and the whole thing collapsed in on itself.

All this basically comes down to the industry is still growing, and sometimes it tries to leach on to the big thing of the moment a little too much, whether it be the casual market or multiplayer components. They over-correct and just seem out of touch a lot of times.

I'd be happy with Galaxy 3, mainly because where the fuck do they go next?

Also, 2 ended on a cliffhanger, most people want to see it resolved and would probably be disappointed if it wasn't.

I say they mix it up with some stand non-gravity based Mario gameplay, and galaxy levels.

Yeah, that'd be cool.

They could expand upon the first game with open level worlds along with the linear crazy planetoids deal.

I woudn't bitch at an all new direction though as I trust EAD Tokyo.

Just 18 days away... so close but yet so far away

Yeah and I can't imagine how crazy it must be at Nintendo as we are getting closer and closer - can almost hear the Nintendo gears turning at full-speed.

I can imagine Iwata/Reggie practicing for their presentations/speeches and devs working like crazy to prepare what's to be shown on the show floor.

Really, I've been wondering, what's the deadline (if there is one) for devs to complete their "demos" for E3?

Dimensions obviously. Mario platforming through Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, Pokemon themed worlds.

Nah... nintendo would never :-/

Iwata likely practiced his speech using that dog in the recent picture as his audience.

If GTA V is coming to the Wii U at all, we'll at least see a logo. I don't see any reason they would hide the platforms for the game any longer. If it were truly coming out the PS3, 360, and PC and not the Wii U, wouldn't they have said that by now?

You'll forgive me with the EVA inspired Retro Star Fox is announced. You'll see.

God...I hope not. Evangelion is probably the worst anime I've watched.
