Didn't see this coming. I wonder if they'll "scratch off" the names of the launch titles after Nintendo Direct and wait to show them until Tuesday or something. Could be a great way to generate (more) hype before the show.

OS talk maybe? Keep E3 all about the games?

My source is my ass!
- I imagine they'll introduce again the controller, with all its features, as seen in this thread

- A proper presentation of the NFC function, with some animations detailing how it works, the sensor behind the square under the D-PAD, etc.

- Some time on the improvements like the switch to traditional sticks, clickable, maybe analog triggers, a slightly bigger screen.

- The utility of the mysterious additional button near the power one (i'll try to post about that in this subject + the speculation thread tomorrow, what i said a few weeks ago was assumption from my sources, but it seems we know nearly for sure its function now).

- Maybe the announcement of 2 DRC support

- The others control input available for asymmetric or symmetric play, like a Wii U classic controller

-They will talk about the Wii U system, maybe present the redesigned case (more to say about that tomorrow), chat on their storage policy, the internal flash, sd cards, and how they will manage external HDD.

- Perhaps a few things about the hardware, the Wii U guts.

- And some infos about the Wii U software layer, its OS, its online service (NiN, eShop, etc.). For those who followed my posts on the speculation thread, this area is expected to be the most surprising, considering the mystery around it, the fact that third-parties were left in a rather vague knowledge (aware of just some features, real dashboard not available, etc) until recently + all the room reserved for it in the RAM memory and flash storage.

Basically, they will arm, fit out the audience, to better understand the footage, the games that will take advantage of all the hardware features, shown at Ubi conference and at their own the day after, avoiding to loose too much time explaining in the middle of these software presentation all these rather technical points.

I have a feeling I'm going to see that huddle pic a lot more around these parts haha. So much potential

The nature of the picture and the #Regginator hashtag make me wonder if Nintendo's marketing team is paying more attention to the Internet this time around. The "ironic" 3DS video follows this trend as well.

this announcement of (propably) further announcements came out of nowhere. Hopefully we get to see some OS features and not only the hardware like the ports and the redesigned controller which was already leaked.

Hype is rising to heaven

hmm, sorry to go ot a little bit but I'm building a Reggie pic collection here. Could some kind soul please post that Reggie pic with him holding the paper greeting after E3 rehearsals nintendo published on twitter a couple years ago? The photosopped version with a "My body is ready" caption that appeared like 5 minutes after that is also sought upon.

Dunno. OS sounds more llike aftertalk to me.

Normally i would say: games>hardware>games>online snizzle>OS, but with the interference of the ND...

Just gimme all, let it be awesome this time and inject it to my veins.

Nice move from Nintendo. Show the console the day before the 3rd party conferences, so that they won't have to hide it, and at the same time open up for more games on their own conference.

I'm seriously intrigued by the "super secure" OS the apparently have cooking, Hope they'll spend some time on that!

And this really came out of nowhere!

If Iwata reveals two controller support on ND, I think we'll see a multiplayer demo of Madden 13 on Wii U at the EA briefing.

I would be shocked if there is no Wii U/Madden talk at EA's show regardless.

Just think.

A week from now everything will be known, but then a new set of questions will probably still be out there like price, definitive launch lineup and date, etc. Then it's "WAIT FOR SPACEWORLD!"

It is very plausible, that this Nintendo Direct is made to show the system before the EA and Ubi Presser, so they can show actual WiiU games and demonstrate them on stage without taking steam out of the Nintendo Conference.

If this is the case, we have more time for 1st Party games on tuesday and even more without the hardware talk.

Will QA for food.
So, no pricing information at E3 was true, because they'll be revealing it during this Nintendo Direct. Right?

If - and it's still a big if - Nintendo have a swathe of first- and NDA'd third-party titles to announce, getting all the hardware info out first is a very good move and will let them blow the doors off with the main conference, and free up some time to discuss 3DS news.

Also, if the talk of a huge chunk of RAM allocated to the OS is correct, it could well be a major feature for the company to discuss. I may be mistaken, but I think the OS is going to be a big surprise here. It may not go toe-to-toe feature-wise with what Sony/MS offer, and I fully expect it to be a very Nintendo-flavoured approach, but I think they may be bringing some interesting ideas to the table.

Interesting times!

I think Nintendo is going to surprise with just how media and social hub they go with the OS and Apps etc. Yeah alot of it will be already on XBL etc but the fact Nintendo will be taking such a big step in the media hub direction will be a surprise.

Pretty brilliant of Nintendo to announce vital bits about Wii U itself on a day when most people are not at work.

True dat. I was watching the unveiling of Wii U with no sound at work last year and thought it was just some shitty peripheral until i realized it was the new system.

Very excited for Nintendo to get it right this time.

If it's turns out to be good it'd probably be more worthwhile than Microsoft and perhaps Sony's efforts, I'd rather surf the net etc with a large touch screen even if resistive than deal with simply a controller or perhaps going out and buying a keyboard attachment. Really it depends how Nintendo prices and markets this, if it's cheap enough it could be used to convert all TV's into smart TV's with reasonable control schemes.

Ya, EA Sports could/should be critical for Wii U. They have HUGE audiences of both core and more casual gamers, and (if the online is there) the Wii U controller offers all sorts of possibilities for great, exclusive features.

Or to put it more into perspective, who would have thought after E3 2001 you would have to wait all the way until E3 2012 - eleven years later - to see a real jump in Nintendo hardware power.

Crazy to think about.

That's...scary :/

I now feel old. Cheers :)

But hype! For some reason I always get the most excited about Nintendo's E3 than all the others, even though I'd classify myself more of a Sony/PC gamer.

I shall now board the hype train. My ticket is ready.

Same here. I actually got the Gamecube on my birthday two days before street release at a local game shop, it was really cool. Outside of that launch Gamecube period up until Wind Waker I basically have stopped playing games as a serious hobby since, with a few exceptions here or there.
