IMO everything shown is the kind of complete social integration that PSN and XBL should have had all this time. Based on what's been shown here, it seems it could be much more than just playing catch-up to XBL and PSN. This actually does take all the competitive feature and wraps them up in an even more expansive, potentially more cohesive, network and interface.

Nintendo is definitely building on what XBL, the leading online platform in terms of features and integration, has done. But true to form, they seem to have tried hard to come up with a fresh spin on things.

Yeah. I think the whole Miiverse concept is pretty damn slick and seems like it could be pretty significant for building communities on the system without too much hassle. The fact that you're able to see what other people are playing, even strangers, and see what they're saying... that's a bit more open-minded than I imagined Nintendo would be.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Miiverse sounds awesome. Very excited for Tuesday

P.S. About 3DS, Iwata said the press Conference is focused ALMOST entirely on games for Wii U. This means we'll see something for 3DS ( Castlevania teaser confirms this ), hoping to see at least two announcements. At this point, 10 minutes of 3DS and 50, if not 1 hour of Wii U sounds what it will happen.

Soo after finaly being here on GAF after manny 500 errors for me my conclusion:

Nintendo goes Social, that is what I got out of the Nintendo direct.

But we haven't seen the overall OS, have we? The Miiverse is a social thing we see when we boot up the console, but iwata said the normal OS is on the controller and it is changable.

Furthermore, was that Zombie game and the Mario Overworld real games? This Zombie thing didn't look too hot to be honest and Mario just looked like the NSMBMii Demo at last E3.

What is about voice chat while playing online, Iwata haven't said a word about it...

But I'm still hyped :)

The Zombie game is obviously just a mock up. It's made on purpose so you can't see shit.

Hopefully that popup talk junk can be turned off. I know I don't want to be immersed with Metroid or another title, only to be pulled out with Mii post-it notes.

The additions shown in the video are really innovative, now Nintendo also invented:

-Clickable sticks for the Gamepad
-DS3/360 like black controller
-Text messages also available in smartphones or handhelds
-Videochat
-Online plaza to meet the avatars of friends and other players
-Sharing user created content on-line to use in their games
-On-line service compatible with several gaming devices
-Web browser

I think Sony is going to copy for the PS3... oh wait, PS3 had it before!

You say this, but Nintendo's just packaged all of that awesomeness together in a beautiful way.

am I the only one annoyed that there seems to be no graphical changes to the NSMB WiiU game in comparison to the Wii version?

To be honest, with the art style they've got set up for the NSMB games, I think it will always be hard to make it look better graphically. The art style is so basic and flat and 2D that I'm honestly not sure what they could do to improve it, other than increase the poly count for 3D models and have more stuff onscreen at once.

That's only because of the art style they've chosen though. If they were to make a 2D platformer but with entirely 3D assets then obviously they could do a lot more to it.

In my opinion anyway.

As it looks now it's an inferior controller, at least slightly. The position of the face buttons and the right stick makes a world of difference in a bad way.

I'll take a functional d-pad any day. I don't think the face button positioning is going to be nearly as big of a problem as people seem to think it will be.

The whole active feed between players with sending different emotes and having both developers and other plays send ingame content to each other is all done on the Vita

Albeit it's done slightly different here but it's essentially the same thing

I'll have to watch a video or something on Youtube. I haven't seen anything quite like Miiverse before, and I tend to pay attention to this stuff. But if what you're saying is true, then good on Sony for putting it on the Vita.

IdeaMan

My source is my ass!
IdeaMan redeemed ! Vindicated !

- No system redesign, you heard it first here

- NFC sensor under the D-Pad

- TV button near the power one to switch from the TV content to the console

- Wii U classic controller (a traditional one, without a screen)

- And a few hints about the OS features, multi-tasking, how it will occupy a lot of memory space, informations about a lot of backgrounds software running (like the Miiverse) etc, spread since the speculation thread 2 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and others posts)

I had to do this post, for the few doubters :p

I need a tag !

The Zombie game didn't even look like a real game. They showed pretty much the same shot over and over so I think it was just for demonstration purposes for the video.

I'm pretty confident we'll get voice chat. Nintendo's never done it before because they didn't want people talking to others they don't know, but it seems that they're over that with being able to have an actual video chat with seemingly anybody else in the country.

The 360 controller is a good thing to copy, but they should have left the sticks how they were.

Also nice to see that the art in NSMB is slightly less bad and stock than prior.

TV remote is awesome. Yes, I am that fucking lazy that this legitimately impresses me.

The Amiga Brotherhood
I can hear the army of people furiously giffing the fuck out of that presentation *.*

The Internet curtain pulling back and showing Reggie is essential.

That has to be the most beautifully bonkers thing Nintendo have done for a while. Messages flashing up like "SHIT OPENED MY CURTAIN TO PORN HALP ME GAF".

I liked it. Looks like they are getting a lot of things right online, and having Souls-esque hints and comments built into the UI is neat. Hope it continues to evolve and improve after launch, Nintendo has a habit of being slow/nonexistent with updates, though it's gotten a little better with the 3DS.

Hopefully on Tuesday we'll see announcements made concerning media availability. Netflix is great and all, but they need more. Also hope that such products will take advantage of the tablet controller.

Christ that was dull.

Hopefully it was the chaff they didn't want to cover on tues.

The pro controllers Dpad is YUM!
The stick placement is YAK!

And man I hated that UI dash and forum stuff, horrible.

But with that out of the way the tues conf might be full of the good stuff.

Nintendo's Pro Bono PR Firm
Awesome features, awful presentation. The social aspect with packed in keyboard & videochat, full mobile integration, being core to the OS to the point it's the main boot feature, and integrated in games a la Dark Souls... Genius. They got social right. They perfected their Mii breakthrough. All put together it's the smartest design I've seen since itunes/iPhone.

So wait, if I post on a message board some strange dickwad has the ability to call me on my cellphone? That's a feature with the new Nintendo coming from "friend codes"? I'm not comfortable with that. Could you imagine that feature on 4chan.
