Nexus 7 |OT| Google's $199 7-inch tablet by Asus

Just got off the phone with them. As suspected, the guy couldn't tell me anything. Anything. at. all.

He doesn't know why orders are not shipping in chronological order.
He doesn't know why I am unable to just cancel my order, despite having to wait up to an additional 2 weeks for it to even ship.
He doesn't know why people are paying for 2-day shipping, and then getting UPS Standard 5-7 day.
He doesn't know how long it will take to issue a refund if I were to refuse shipment and have it sent back to them.

The only thing he could do was add a note to my account saying that when my order ships, if it ships with 5-7 day shipping, I should get a refund on my shipping costs since I paid for 2-day shipping.

Why even have phone support if they have absolutely no ability to provide any information at all? It's not like I can yell at the guy, it's not his fault...
I feel you man, google sucks at this game. Need to kindly bow out and leave it to the big boys.

Still, you choose to place the order with Google under the "2-3 Weeks / Mid-July" information, paying the 2-Day Shipping Option. They have lived up to this. Anything else is just coming from someone who is impatient

Lol, google is sending tablets to people who placed orders yesterday but rabhw is still waiting for his 6/29 order and hes impatient? Stop making excuses for google shitty handling of this whole thing. It makes you look bad.

Besides, when exactly is "mid-July" because by my definition, July 23rd is well past that but theyre making him wait until then. And this is assuming they even send it then.

You might have missed the part where people that are ordering on the 15th of July already have their devices? Or people that ordered on the 14th, 13th, 10th, 11th, etc.

Are you really that clueless to think that its normal practice to ship orders at random, or in seemingly-reversed order?

Please help me with my bad english
Man, THANKS GOD I haven't ordered one yet. I'm not sure if I could go through all this shit.

Sorry guys, I had to. I haven't received/they haven't shipped mine yet either and I ordered two weeks ago.

Just this e-mail from Google.

We’ve shipped all standalone Nexus 7 8GB orders (e.g.: those without a case, charger or Nexus Q). By the end of day on July 19 (PDT), we will have shipped all standalone Nexus 7 16GB orders placed through July 11 (PDT), and upgraded these orders to overnight shipping. We will process the remaining standalone Nexus 7 16GB orders by the end of next week with overnight shipping.

I love the tone, and not even admitting they have had problems. They should have refunded everyone's shipping, and done the overnight upgrade in addition to doubling the Play store discount. As it is now, I'm refusing delivery. The only way to make corporations understand certain behavior is unacceptable, is acting with your wallet.

We only got a few in at Staples today, but by the middle of the day they had all gone. We only had 16GB ones so I passed anyway, but whenever we get 8GB ones in I'm gonna grab one.

I did get to play with one as we set up the display model. God, it's so smooth and feels great in the hand.

emailed google about my order..

They sent me what looked like a form letter saying that people that ordered before July 11th would have their tablets shipped this week and would be upgraded to overnight shipping free of charge..

I have now been charged..

Now to play the waiting game..

Got my Google Play email!

"We wanted to send you an update on your Nexus 7 pre-order. We’ve had incredible demand for the new tablet and are shipping them as quickly as possible. If you placed your order by July 11, it will ship this week and we’ve upgraded to overnight shipping so it arrives sooner. Orders placed after July 11, will ship next week with overnight shipping."

I ordered on the 7th!

Only problem is I'm out of state for the next week. :(

i'm enjoying playing around with my Nexus more than my iPad 3. granted, the iPad is currently busted up and awaiting a Genius Bar visit tomorrow to get swapped, but the freshness of Android's UI, combined with how well Google's services are integrated, makes my inner-geek happy.

if only this device had an LTE connection. it looks like for the time being i'll be toting both my iPad and Nexus 7 to and from work, with the iPad delegated as the LTE hotspot for the Nexus.

Was anyone's box double-taped? Is that normal?

I have a complaint about this thing, too - the build quality is very, very suspect. The display glass cover is sitting slightly above the bezel on one side. The goddamn thing squeaks when I hold it on the left side because I'm pushing the glass back into the bezel where it fucking should have been already. I'm really close to returning this POS.

EDIT: Jesus Christ, could they be more obscure about how to return this thing for a refund? I can't find anything anywhere on the subject.

EDIT2: Holy shit there's a big ass thread about this defect on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1770919&page=18

An iPod Touch I had a while back had this problem and it bugged the shit out of me until the day I got rid of it. Get a new one for sure!

Okay, for some reason I'm getting a Service Error every time I try to access GAF on my Nexus 7 (both for the main and mobile sites).

Any explanation as to why this would be happening?

is there anywhere that sells the official case in the UK? On the Google Play website it says that it's not available in my region.

Also, what would the advantages of rooting it be? I heard it's best to do it on a new device since it requires a wipe.

With a smaller tablet size I'd happily take on an LTE prepaid plan as it's something I'd take out with me, something I'd never have done with the ipad. Something really appealing about the Google Now stuff with cell coverage, plus being able to use MOG and stuff on the train without destroying my phone battery. Maybe the next model...

Hoping to get mine here in Aus by Monday, going by rumours of EBGames' stock coming in on Friday. Glad I'm getting mine retail, going by some of the build quality issues people are reporting...

Fuck it, pre-ordered one from Best Buy. They are getting stock on the 19th, hopefully they get enough to fill all orders. I had $75 in gift cards to use anyways.

If my Google Play order ever arrives, I'll decide then if I want to keep it, or give it to my g/f.

Guess I'm just a spoiled Apple customer then :\ because this is unacceptable.

Yeah, I'll probably try one out in store before I bite the bullet. My iPad 2 is incredibly sturdy and don't want to get rid of it unless the Nexus' build quality is up to par (although the screen on my OG iPad did creak a tiny bit in the corner).

I've been getting the same problem.
Only way I've gotten around this is by turning off the letterbox in the settings for guided view. This let's me us guided view and then when I reaches the last panel, I double tap to zoom out and then click the ride side to advance the page. It seems to crash if you go from one page to the next while in guided view. A real bummer. I hope they patch that up.

After playing with the apps on the device more, Perfect Viewer is still the clear best comic book viewer.
There isn't a way to import your comics from comixology to perfect viewer is there?

And my N7 has the creaky left side too. It doesn't actually creak but the screen is raised a tiny tiny bit. To be fair, my iPhone 4 was like that too and I lived with it for 2 years :l

Nope. Reading them in comiXology shouldn't be an issue though. This is a comparison of cbr/cbz readers.

Where do you get comics from in cbr/cbz anyways? AFAIK DC is only available through Comixology; Marvel has a couple of their own outlets including Comixology as well.

Maybe manga, unofficially?

Both of those formats have been a standard for a while. Can normally find them on various websites. ComiXology is the same for both Marvel / DC. Each company just separates their portion of the store in individual apps, to streamline their content.

Which websites? They have digital DC comics? Are they cheaper than Comixology?

LOL. Canadian 16gb Nexus 7 will be shipped WITHIN TWO WEEKS.

You can go to the fucking store right now in Toronto and buy one.

This is getting straight comical.

The one on play store is available? I checked last week and it wasn't so I signed up for email notifications on it and never received anything.

I included it in my original order made on 6/27. Not sure what the deal is with the cases other than feeling lucky to have actually gotten one.

If theres a plus side to having to wait, its that ill at least have my case by the time i get it.
Sucks that they say itll ship "this week" though. They might not get to mine until Friday which means i wont have it this weekend

Oh, ok...it's not just me. I kept getting a 500 internal error and couldn't get the mobile site up either.

It's working for me. I'm posting this from my nexus 7 right now.

Hmmmmm. This is strange.

But other than that, it's wonderful. It's a beautiful, beautiful piece of hardware. And really, the 7-inch form factor is fantastic. It's going to be so much fun to travel with, and so much easier than a 10-inch tablet.

Did you pre-order at a store or on best buy site? It won't let me order online.

Don't see it on Bestbuy.com - how did you preorder?

okay, found my first disappointment with the hardware. on low impedance headphones like IEMs i'm hearing a good deal of background static depending on how hard the processor/gpu/whatever is being pushed. noticed this whenever i started a video on Netflix. reminds me of the old cheapo integrated sound cards on cheapo motherboards.

It's a very nice device. Linking my account, just like Amazon does is a good touch. Some of the apps I've downloaded aren't compatible, but the majority work fine and look great on the 7" screen.

I've got to play around with it some more. It's nice to have 2 Android devices to play around with.
