November Wrasslin |OT| CM Punk's Countdown to RESPECT

So Punk's reign is gonna be over in a couple of hours?

I rather have that because if he wins tonight then that means at Wrestlemania if will be Rock vs Cena 2 or a 3 way where John Cena wins the title. If Punk loses tonight then at Wrestlemania Punks wins the title from the Rock.

Aiii

So not worth it
HEY YOU GUYS, THERE'S TOTALLY A HOT PAY-PER-VIEW COMING UP. ONE OF THE BIG FOUR! IT HAS AT LEAST TWO WEEKS OF BUILD-UP FOR IT, SO IT IS THAT TIME OF THE MONTH AGAIN! PREDICTION TIME YAY!

20121115_EP_LIGHT_SurvivorSeries_PreShow_Match_C-homepage.jpg

Pre-show: Heath Slater & Jinder Mahal vs. Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd
As this is a pre-show, I had expected the faces to go over to benefit PPV buys and what not. however, the match was changed from CoBro to Gabriel and Kidd. The crowd doesn't care that much for the latter really, even though they're great wrestlers that deserve a major push. I'm expecting the heels to take this one and some kind of shenanigans with PTP and SinCara/Rey to set up another match during the PPV, perhaps another 8-man tag like we saw on Raw? Or an elimination Survivor Series tag-match? (probably the first), either way would make me happy, but The Three Man Band is taking this one.

20121112_EP_LIGHT_Cesaro_Truth_Match_HOMEPAGE.jpg

United States Championship: Antonio Cesaro vs. R-Truth
I care more about this match than I rightfully should I guess, there's no wat Truth is winning the title here, but the build-up to this match has been pretty good, also I believe this makes 3 PPV's in a row for the US Title to be defended, that's gotta be a recent record, right? Cesaro is being build very well, it's slow, but he gets promo time and showcase time in-ring and gets clean victories over babyfaces as well, who knew WWE even had it in them? So, Truth will do the job for our future WWE Champion Antonio Cesaro.

20121112_EP_LIGHT_SurvivorSeries_Divas_Match_HOMEPAGE.jpg

Divas Championship: Eve vs. Kaitlyn
The most suprising thing about this match happening is that they didn't have a battle royal to determine the #1 contendor. Well, I guess with Beth leaving they're official too short on divas to have one now. That said, I could do without this match really, this Eve/Layla/Kaitlyn three-way feud has failed from the start, too soapy and really, everyone knew from day 1 who "attacked" Kaitlyn to cost her her first title shot. Come on WWE, stop treating us like dipshits and take us seriously for once. Better storylines make for better feuds, which in turn make us care more for matches between women wrestlers. (as well as mens btw, this is not exclusive to the divas division). Anyway, end rant, Eve is just waiting for this horrible Cena/AJ vs Ziggler/Vickie storyline to end (btw, we're getting an AJ promo on PPV, yay for tight clothing?) so she can feud with AJ and drop the title to her. Though to be fair, Kaitlyn winning the title and having a short feud with AJ to drop the title to her would be nice as well, there's already a built-in feud they've been working on since last April there. To many words for a 3-minute match though, Eve retains.

20121113_EP_LIGHT_SurvivorSeries_match_teamfoleyziggler_C.jpg

Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match: Team Foley (Randy Orton, Kofi Kingston, Kane, Daniel Bryan and The Miz) vs. Team Ziggler (Dolph Ziggler, Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow, Alberto Del Rio and Wade Barrett)
It's a shame they ruined this match by changing plans after the first week. Still, I'm excited for pretty much everyone in this match (hey now Soulplaya, I don't hate Kane, at worst I'm indifferent towards the guy) so it should be great fun to watch. However, the build-up just hasn't been good to get me emotionally invested. It's probably gonna end up being all about Team Foley's individual members not getting along and mostly about Miz's face turn, they'll make him the one to eliminate the final member of Team Ziggler, and maybe the sole survivor or survivor along with Orton. So, Team Foley takes the win.

20121031_EP_LIGHT_SurvivorSeries_Big_Show_Sheamus_HOMEPAGE.jpg

World Heavyweight Championship: Big Show vs. Sheamus
After that very well made finish after the last show that put over Show clean and his great heel demeanor or pretending Sheamus is not a contendor even though he's obviously scared shitless at having another match with him, combined with the great brawling they've been doing all over the place... Well, I hate to say this, but I might be looking forward to this match the most. After winning so cleanly last time, I do expect Big Show to retain. After which Sheamus will brawl and Ziggler will finally cash in. I've said this for 3 PPV's now though, so who knows if we'll see Ziggler, might be they wait another month or two. But Ziggler really does need the final push now, he's ready for the main event, give him the ball and let him run with it already. Properly please?

20121105_EP_LIGHT_SurvivorSeries_match-cena-punk-ryback_C-homepage.jpg

WWE Championship: CM Punk vs. John Cena vs. Ryback
CM Punk retains. Yeah, that's right, not a single title change on this PPV. They need to protect Ryback though, but he can't win. The Rock is not coming back to destroy Ryback's popularity (can't deny the guy is getting over by way of high-speed-Goldberg-push), so he has to beat either Cena or Punk for the title to set-up the three way at Wrestlemania. Since Rock already had his win over Cena, he needs a win over Punk at the Royal Rumble as well. Cena will, of course, win the Rumble, wasting yet another PPV gimmick match to put him in the title spot. Anyway, getting ahead of myself. Punk versus Cena is always fun to watch. Hope Ryback doesn't suck the fun out of the match too much.

Come on WrassleGAF do it with me! Get hype!

If Punk actually holds it until Royal Rumble then I will be amazed they're letting a heel have a lengthy WWE title run. How long did Miz have it?

I am shocked Punk has been champion this long in WWE run by Vince McMahon. Scrawny/fat CM Punk King of the Indys held the WWE title for 364 days and counting

You want prediction time Aiii? well you got it, I'll top my masterpiece from last month...

Pre Show: Two man Band with Drew on backup vs Ryder and Santino
Looks like the other team were chucked out in favour of the comedy duo, well they're not as funny as Jinder Mahal *serious face*.
No one actually cares but if 3MB win then that means air guitars so lets go with that.

Cesaro vs R Truth for the US title
Cesaro takes this, surely, I have nothing else to say about this one, i've not been paying attention.

Piss Break for the Divas title
I make this joke every month, it's HILARIOUS....LAUGH DAMMIT!

Team Kane vs Team Barrett
Oh man i'm so torn on whose side to take, reliable veteran and Wrasslegaf favourite Kane? or rising star and future WWE champion Wade Barrett?
Oh there's Foley over there, nostalgia pop places me in that teams corner.

Big Show vs Sheamus for WHC
All of a sudden I want to board the Big Show train because he's doing well for himself right now but I don't expect him to leave with the title, Sheamus will regain his belt and Big Show will drift back down the card, turn face and form a dancing tag team with Khali.

Punk vs Ryback vs Cena
I already feel like the Ryback ship has sailed and CM Punk reaching that title run benchmark would be nice so hopefully he wins.
Cena loses because he now sees everyone's stares as fraternizing googly eyes and goes mad, or maybe because Vickie sticks her oar into this, I don't really care.

I used to have so much more to say for these, i'm sad now.

If people on GAF found out you guys gambled on professional wrestling...

If people on GAF found out you watch professional wrestling....

You post in the wrestling thread. You can't edit THOSE out. Hell, all I'd have to do is bring up the "who posted" list, and your name would be right there...

I've gone for the same results as Keyser, though my accumulator is only for £50.

Don't want to lose too much money this month. Lost big on the United game yesterday.

I'm going to take a guess and say; badly. Even in the PG world of modern WWE, the women are lauded for their athletic prowess, but given the barest of chances to show it. They seem entirely interchangeable from one another, only being placed in the limelight when paired with a male wrestler as a valet or girlfriend, until, invariably, storyline dictates that they expose their low morals by cheating on said wrestler. There's an air of rigmarole to the Divas matches, as if they're there to check a box, and as if WWE only bothers with them because otherwise the Divas would be barely a step above the Nitro Girls.

Agreed. Who knew that we'd look back on the Trish Stratus era as a peak for the athletic style in WWE? At the time, when Trish decided to actually wrestle, and Regal was training them up, ect, and the women's matches were actually over with the fans and getting pops, it seemed like just the beginning. Then, just as quickly as it rose, they put this "diva" label on, loaded up on models, and set the division back a decade.

In TNA the women are presented far more lasciviously, scantily clad and performing risqué poses as they enter the ring. But once there, they at least wrestle. TNA doesn't build up their skills only to then let them go to waste, but rather portrays them as good wrestlers in their own right (with the added of advantage of looking sexy in the process), even if the quality and maturity of the storylines given to them often leave a lot to be desired.

I think TNA is barely better.

Women's wrestling on the indies in places like SHIMMER, SHINE, WSU, ACW, NCW, etc is mostly presented in a much more athletic manner, but that doesn't mean they are unaware of the more seedy side of how women's wrestling is perceived and the money-making opportunities therein. For instance, some wrestlers take to auctioning their ring-worn gear to the creepy guys who come to these shows for more than just the wrestling, while others advertise their availability for fetish video work and custom video requests from fans.

I absolutely don't have a problem with a female flaunting what she's got, in terms of sexual attractiveness or whatever. If you've got something, use it to get over, by all means. Just be a good worker too. Don't be a "one note" character.

And yeah. That creeper stuff exists, but I don't really hold that against anybody. To me, the gear thing is creepy, the Amazon Wish Lists are creepy, the private matches are creepy, ect.

But the fact is, if the guys in the indies could get away with it and not get peer and fan backlash for catering to homosexuals, probably an equal percentage of them would do it too, for the money. It's a tough business. It's still a carney business too. So I don't see this as some sort of evidence for how women are perceived.

In Japan, where guys can get away with it without the stigma of being called gay or whatever, they do the same or very similar things to make extra money off the creepers.

I think women's wrestling has a long way to go in the US - there are many who say that people just aren't interested in women's wrestling, but the problem remains with the fact that not enough good women's wrestler are being given the opportunities to wrestle. There's no doubt in my mind that women's wrestling can be as exciting and entertaining as men's wrestling, and for entirely the same reasons, but until it's presented as being on par with men's wrestling, until WWE begin giving opportunities first to the women who CAN wrestle and not just look pretty, it will always be badly perceived imo.

Agreed. More casual fans just need to be exposed to great female workers. I've gotten a couple of folks who aren't really wrestling fans at all to go to Anarchy shows here in Austin, and none of them have problems with females in the ring--even against men, which is common at ACW. Just like superheroes in comics, if you have a strong female character, people will be able to suspend disbelief and allow themselves to be entertained.

In fact, the uniqueness of the female characters slugging it out made these non-fans far more likely to come back.

This goes for pretty much everybody in the seats for the first time at a wrestling show, or someone watching on TV. There's gotta be someone or something that you identify with or gravitate to. That's why the "cookie cutter" nature of WWE talent sucks so bad. Unless you like that mold, you won't be back. The more unique characters that a show has, the more likely one of those talents is going to resonate with you, and spur you to watch or attend again.

I really hope tonight there's gonna be a ref bump, Mad Ox will run out, fast count Cena with Punk pinning him and Punk retains, thus justifying Heyman talking to Mad Ox and helping Mad Ox get revenge on Ryback.

What a terrible, terrible card. There is nothing that looks interesting outside of "how are they going to fuck up/continue Punk's reign?", but the match itself isn't interesting at all. The SS match could be good if given a significant chunk of time (I'm talking like 25 minute minimum), but the more likely scenario is guys half the teams being eliminated in the first 8 minutes, and then turning into Randy vs Wade/ADR for 10 minutes. And Randy wins via OUTTA NOWHERE. Twice. Probably in a row. Or a double RKO.

I'd like to see how pull off a double RKO
