Vita Heaven 2 Electric Bugaloo 2/18 - Zero new games, massive price drop, Vita RIP

I really like this place, you guys are on top of news all the time and some really funny posters here, but this place is kinda immature with bashing stuff. It's really exaggerated. This direct feed was clearly about the price-drop and Vita's next few months on the market. Buzz for SS/PSO2/Tales/One Piece are priority here. We have Killzone/Tear Away and hopefully more studious working on Vita for the rest of the year, and plenty of events to look forward to for more game announcements.

If the system is going to die, let it die...

But at least enjoy gaming man. It's almost like some people want Sony to fail with how critical there are of everything. What the heck is wrong with doing a soft marketing video for the upcoming Vita games?

I see ZERO wrong with the conference, no brand new games announced is dissapointing, but there's always other shows and conference, particularly ones dedicated to U.S audience for that. I could play PSO2 from now till fall if it's as good as the DreamCast title.

Again, Sony purposely waited a full year, and endured terrible terrible sales numbers just so they wouldn't have to do this. Kind of messed up if you ask me. When a system flops, early adopters deserve some kind of compensation, after the company responds with a price drop. They stuck to their guns just long enough, so that they don't have to give anything to first year adopters.
I'm guessing it's more because they had nothing to compliment a price drop. They likely hope that combining it with PSO2 and SS will create some momentum.

Um... guys, a model for big reveals teased only a day or two beforehand and streamed on the internet exists now.

Yeah, different companies, different models, all that stuff, but having nothing to reveal here isn't really excusable when Nintendo are dropping WW million-sellers for 3DS with barely a day's notice.

It's like Sony isn't even trying. Unless Vita gains some mommentum with Sony's game it will continue to crawl through its pathetic existance.

How can Vita gain momentum or raise its sales when there is nothing, there is only one exclusive game, the rest are multiplat.

even SCE Japan Studio don't have anything in-house developed on the thing, this just screams "no future" software-wise.

So what exactly happened to the Vita? The only scenario I can imagine is:

1. Sony rushed it to the market
2. Developers only had time to announce/push out ports.
3 Looked bad because of this and the situation reinforced itself.

Or a collapse of 3rd party relations? The PSP was pretty successful ...

Don't think Sony rushed it to market.

I think they were hoping that sales would propel support would propel sales. And there was a reasonably strong SCE push starting out in a hopeful attempt at precipitating that situation, but clearly a lot of third parties were cagier.

A second thing happened simultaneously - Nintendo got extremely panicked about 3DS and money-hatted MonHun.

(And a third, if we include the high publisher/developer interest in mobile)

If Sony has slowed its own internal support for Vita I think it's because they're looking at something we don't know yet - i.e. a longer term future where Vita is just the ideal portable client for their cloud service.

There's that whole memory card issue. That and not enough exclusives. These things need to be fixed at E3 or TGS latest.

I don't know what other people think, but I am critical of Sony not because I want them to fail, but because I want to see them succeed so badly. In the aggregate if we let them know how bad they are screwing up, I think we all hope that they'll finally get the message and right their ship.

This "Vita Heaven" was a big mistake. They wasted their resources in producing this, wasted their fans' time and goodwill, and wasted an opportunity to instill confidence in their system. Re-announcing things that have long been announced makes the Vita look extremely weak. It's like the idiom "If you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all". Why make a Vita Heaven to announce a price-drop when the majority of your viewers either own Vitas already? Why announce so many MH clones when you know (or at least you damn well should know) that your fans are clamoring for the actual MH to make it to Vita?

Who the hell is CELEBRATING this?

This totally deflates any confidence I could have had in the 02/20 conference if THIS is what I can expect from them.
To be fair, this was announced this morning, wasn't it? Not positioned as some huge event. The 2/20 event has been hyped for some time. I'm sure it has some good planning going into it.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
thread wining is banable you know?

Thats not thread whining, some mods have a stupid trigger finger with renaming threads lately, which is a bad show for GAF. They shouldnt judge things and renaming a thread to this makes it an "official" opinion since its sanctioned by a mod.

Its just bad taste, and stupid too btw since this is true:

Seriously, calm down guys. There are other games we KNOW are coming. This event clearly wasnt meant to announce them. Its like watching a McDonalds add and screaming "ALL CHICKEN ARE DEAD, NO MORE CHICKEN, THEY ARE ALL BEING KILLED, AAAAAH".

I'll say a 100 buck price drop is a pretty huge event for the platform. Wouldn't you?

I will declare Vita dead after this year's E3 and TGS. Then I will declare it dead. I think it's too premature to be celebrating its downfall as of right now. That's my opinion. There's still a possibility of a God of War, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear, etc. down the road.

The optimism is great and nothing wrong with that but people have been moving the goal posts back the last year now. "Wait for E3!!" "TGS will save it!" in the beginning I thought those were very reasonable predictions. Now though I think the question is how much further do people feel its worth moving those goalposts? Seriously, not trying to be an ass. You're right, normally a God of War, Gran Turismo, and Metal Gear game would certainly help in this kind of mess but if they were seriously wanting those, you'd think they would have been working on those before Vita's launch. I'm not saying 100 percent those games won't come, it's more of a barring a huge miracle, much more likely to not happen as opposed to a chance of it.

Yeah, a completely knee jerk reaction to an event that was being used to showcase bundles and a price drop. People that were expecting big game announcements from this type of show were setting themselves up for disappointment.

Nintendo already had a strong 2013 lineup prior to last week and announced 3 more titles coming out this summer on their Nintendo Direct. I'm failing to see why it would be unreasonable to expect Sony to do something similar.

Vita owner right now are niche. imo, Sony's Vita strategy is basically to just try to survive long enough until they can make a new Vita revision and relaunch it later.

Or the more likely scenario is that they're basically putting its future in SS's hands and if it doesn't work they will just let it fade. So people are expecting major announcements at E3 and TGS? What 3rd party is going to change their mind all of a sudden after seeing Vita's sales get even worse over the coming months where nothing is announced for?

I bought my Vita to be able to play certain games on the go....sure at home as well, but more on the go. Why are these games looked down upon just because there are also PS3 versions? I mean these games are exclusives for a handheld no? Exclusive portable versions.

It's completely fine if it's your preference to play certain games on the go. But how is Sony going to convince consumers to buy a vita to play the portable version and not just play the version for a console they already own.

You mean like Nintendo Directs do?
Because everyone thinks a bunch of Luigi games are super amazing?

Get over your opinions and preference. WiiU upcoming stuff looked amazing. 3DS? I want Castlevania, Fire Emblem MH4 and Pokemon for the rest of the year. That's it...Will go back and get RE and Kid Icarus probably but not everyone feels like 3DS is so awesome...I use my Vita a lot more atm...

If Sony held back and only show two 3rd-person action-RPGs, would that of been better?

Less is more?

Apparently Sony shouldn't even hold any press events for the Vita if they can't show off a bunch of new games.

The whole "price drop and our two most marketable IPs in Japan coming out in the next two weeks, bundled with said price drop on system" thing isn't big enough news. Telling us about 2014 releases is where it's at.

Everyone calling it a failure: What did you expect? Vita is dead since its launch and Sony must first get it on track again before anyone anounces new games for it. The price cut was a first step in that direction.

Haha I actually feel like an idiot. I got so exited to see FFXHD there (it still exists I thought!) and then nothing but character models (nope).... Seems like they're just waiting for the Vita to die and then they'll quietly admit they never even started production. If sales pick up it might be saved. Just wait and see I guess.

Am I being overly optimistic in thinking they are probably saving new game announcements for major industry events like e3 and tgs rather than a japan-centric livestream announced to be taking place mere hours beforehand?

Yes, yes you are.

If either E3 or TGS last year had delivered on new game announcements, you might have a point, but with PS4 obviously Sony's focus this year and another year of terrible sales to dissuade third parties from substantively supporting Vita, it's even less likely.
