This is all we have coming in the west for now http://www.gamestop.com/browse/ps-vita?nav=28-xu0,131af-5
I see XSEED already announced they're bringing over the terrible Valhalla Knights game.
At least they're not keeping us in suspense on that one.
(They could have spent that time on Kiseki, though.) :(

Celceta will be nice but I question those two titles releasing within 3 weeks of one another. Doubt that's how it'll wind up.

Let's not bring Nintendo into this equation considering they've got a console that is limping along as we speak. Nintendo is not perfect.

They're not but at least they're TRYING.
Seriously they announced games we had no idea were coming, not stuffs SE said they're doing but that we'll get 4 years down the line along with total global saturation of one genre.

I think some people are underestimating the significance of this. This price drop, at this stage of the Vitas life and its current situation, is almost a concession of defeat on the part of Sony. It's obvious sales have been less then satisfactory just to cover production and distribution and this is not going to help at all, but they must start moving units.

At this stage? It's over a year into it's life and they cut it ~$50. The 3DS underwent the same thing, effectively, and it helped significantly.

It was an even announced a few hours before it was going to occur, what did you expect? What major dev would want their game announced to the world at such an event?

It was for the price drop, nothing more.

At least some b-grade, mid-budget/cheaper titles.

A live streaming event for a price-cut is overkill.

Last month Nintendo held a Direct showcasing Monolith Soft's new game, third party franchise alliances, new installments in long-running series and namedropped more to come at E3, all for Wii U.

Doesn't really wash, I'm afraid.

True but did we get any release dates? No.

Whats the time period for those games?

It depends on what Sony or Nintendo want to announce. How do you know Sony has announced everything for the Vita in a similar time frame to the games at the WiiU direct? We don't and that is the vicious cycle vita fans have to endure.

Good thing I did not give into the temptation that is P4G.

At first ppl were screaming for a price drop and now it seems no body thinks its a big deal that one is happening.

It was a big move that I had hoped would happen for the release of Soul Sacrifice but I didn't at all expect them to time it like so. This is excellent.

Having the 3G model priced the same as the Wi-Fi one s weird. Makes think if they are trying to sell 3G stock and phase that model out.

I think they're definitely trying to clear out something. Whether its the 3G model or the Wifi model remains to be seen.

No, the price drop is a HUGE deal. But it is only one part of the problem. The Vita needs to be an attractive platform, which is simply isn't at the moment. Not for consumers, not for developers. A price drop + announcements which could change that perception would have been very positive for Sony today. But they didn't manage the latter.

That was the entire purpose here. Hell, it's why they're doing the price drop now, the new system colors now, etc.. They're capitalizing on PSO2 and Soul Sacrifice coming out close together and using that for a new push.

You know what else might be good for a new push? Announcements of interesting new software on the horizon.

The Wii U Direct was in direct response to Wii U's underwhelming worldwide sales figures.

Vita's been doing worse for over a year, and hasn't seen similar announcements. How does it benefit Sony for their new platform not to have its major releases revealed?

We KNOW there are more games coming. The bigger games that will be released later havent been announced here, BECAUSE the conference wasnt MEANT to announce them. Seriously, get your head straight people.

How do we know this? I certainly don't know it's getting anything major. I think once the PS4 comes out, Sony will pay even less attention to the Vita.

I thought this event was going to try to reassure people that yes, the Vita had future things coming despite the PS4 being the big news for a while. But nope.

So either Sony has completely given up on the western markets or it will be announced wednesday. At this point, I'd say both are equally as likely.
If they were going to announce a price drop elsewhere, it wouldn't be while everyone is sleeping.

Its a press conference, there are no consumer expectations. You live in a hardcore gamer bubble who watches internet streams of a company's foreign pressers. You were clearly not the target audience for this.

The target audience was the Japanese media who will now cover the Vita price drop, new system colors, PSO2 and Soul Sacrifice bundles, and free week of PS+.

That was the entire purpose here. Hell, it's why they're doing the price drop now, the new system colors now, etc.. They're capitalizing on PSO2 and Soul Sacrifice coming out close together and using that for a new push.

The Vita's library overall is solid, it's 2013 release list is as well. That hasn't been selling the system in Japan. They now have two high pedigree games with the potential to move units in Japan and you're wondering why they didn't show anything new at an event specifically designed to roll out system bundles for those two games and an across the board price cut.

Love my Vita but I wouldnt call this solid http://www.gamestop.com/browse/ps-vita?nav=28-xu0,131af-5

If this is true, then it would seem like they're tackling Japan first. GAF/international reception aside, would Japan be all over the MH clones?

When the appeal of these games is local multiplayer and the 3DS has 10x the userbase i.e. more people to play with.....I'm going to say not. They are also all on PS3 and PSP as well which makes it even worse.

If they were going to announce a price drop elsewhere, it wouldn't be while everyone is sleeping.

Wrong. Nintendo announced the 3DS pricedrop worldwide early in the morning.

We actually did get release dates/time periods for some of those games at that Direct. Most were nebulously 2013 or "soon", but some were more specific. Regardless of release dates they actually showed new games. This is something that was missing tonight for Vita.

"UPDATE: Sony told Eurogamer this morning it had no news on a UK price cut.

"The price cut announced today is for the SCE Japan region only," a spokesperson said. "We have nothing to announce at this time regarding pricing within the our own region.""

Probably saving it for the 20th.

Probably the 3G, no one really bought it anyway. Among the two I'd still get the Wifi even though they're the same price as I don't use 3G, the 3G model is a bit heavier than the Wifi one and I don't want the extra weight. I think it also has worse battery life, but I'm not sure about that.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...

I fully expect for Sony to have a major OS integration of streaming PS4 games and whatnot else with PS4 and Vita. People are being stupid if they think Sony is letting Vita die at this point.

Btw, has anyone mentioned that almost every report about game sales and developer interviews shows that the devs are satisfied with Vita game sales? You know.. people make MONEY on this dead console! :-O

I would wager that a majority of 3DS gaming is done at home. And it's because the platform offers experiences that can't be had elsewhere.

1. that's just your speculation.

2. that has also always been a focus of Nintendo's. Sony's focus has always been on "console gaming on the go". You can disagree with that philosophy for a product, but understanding that as the philosophy makes arguing against cross platform PSV/PS3 releases seem pretty foolish.

And yet they showed more in their Wiiu Direct then Sony did for this Vita heaven.
Why do you assume these were even meant to be analogous events? Is Sony unable to announce anything related to the Vita if it doesn't have corresponding new software reveals to go along with it? Like some kind of fan service fee that needs to be paid before they can even open their mouths?

A Price cut means little if it isn't followed by a slew of must have games. Nintendo capitalized on the 3DS price-cut with Ocarina of Time, and Mario Kart and 3D Land a few months later.

A price-cut is just not a big enough announcement on its own. It doesn't matter if I can get the hardware $50 cheaper if all I have to play on it are PSP and PS1 games.

With that said, I am enjoying Sly Cooper, but what's next?
Which is why Sony is announcing this price cut along with bundles at the new price with PSO2 and Soul Sacrifice. It's also why those bundles have new systems colors in them.

What sells systems? Price cuts, new noteworthy games, new colors. They have their first noteworthy games for Japan in quite some time coming out over the next two weeks. As a result they're combining that fact with the other two system seller options into one big push. That was the takeaway here.

lol

Well at least FFX port is still coming.

It looked so damn good, and that little bit of To Zanarkand instantly melted me. I love how the highlight of the event for me is a freaking port though.

Hopefully there'll be proper, substantial Vita reveals on the 20th/E3/TGS.

If they were really happy with Vita sales they'd be announcing more games for it. And we wouldn't hear so many developers telling us, "Vita isn't the right match for our game".

Price cut + new color + Phantasy Star Online 2 F2P same week + Souls Sacrifice a week later. It's a good movement at least on japanese market.

At this point Vita looks like a long-term ruse to destroy dedicated gaming handhelds, what an utter embarrassment and there's nothing indicating otherwise. They're fucked in Japan, the only market they had a chance in. But yeah, let's wait until they decide to show all their awesome games.

We'll see how it does in these two weeks. I really don't think it's going to be enough to have any momentum at all.

Sony really needs a "oh, one more thing" at the end.

Because this is all fucking nothing.

They did have a "oh, one more thing" at the end. It was FFX HD.... high resolution model test footage. Lol.

The price drop is a HUUUUUGE deal. On one of the most popular game oriented blogs, the number of comments on the price drop article is one of the biggest I've seen there. People have been definitely waiting for this.

You know what else might be good for a new push? Announcements of interesting new software on the horizon.

I'd say that's getting a little ahead of themselves. They have two noteworthy releases about to come out in Japan. Sony should be focused on marketing those as strongly as possible, not making more promises of things to come.

Unveiling new titles that are a year away does nothing to move systems now. The Vita needs to move systems now. What Sony announced at this conference is the single most aggressive attempt to move the unit in Japan they've had to date, and by a WIDE margin. The last thing they need to do is distract people from that core message.

This wasn't a big trades show. Sony doesn't flash announce new software. They line them up for trades shows or other more orchestrated events. Nintendo is trying a different style with Nintendo Direct, we'll see if it works, don't assume that Sony is doing the same thing.

Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Monster Hunter, and Luigi's Mansion is doomed?

Seems like a solid lineup to me.

Did you even read what I replied to? He was referring to the number of games listed. 3DS apparently only has 17 games coming. And, you know, I was being sarcastic.
