Dark Souls II 12 minute gameplay video up [Update: 10 Minute Q&A Video]

Strongly dislike what I'm seeing in the shorter second trailer. The world just looks boring.

You've only seen a little snippet of each area. The world already seems to have a lot of variety in terms of locations, judging by what we've seen so far.

The player looks OP for the levels. They pumped up his stats for the demo, I bet. His lifebar and magic bar is pretty long. They died in purpose for the video. I bet we'll dying a lot in the real game.

Good point. That armor looks soldier/knightly. Early on I expect unaltered gear, a plain sword, enemies my size and each one of them having the ability to take me out if I screw up.

That backwards falling turtle though....that made me laugh like a villain.

Can't wait for the E3 gameplay videos from the showfloor again aka everyone just die.

yeah, definitely the worst trailer for a Souls game. very weird, since the environments and art design and everything looked really cool in the gameplay reveal... i guess whoever compiled that second trailer isn't that good at what he/she does.

Ive got a question I MUST have answered. Been bugging me since I first played Dark Souls, hell the game may have even answered it, but I dont remember.

Who the hell built everything in the Dark Souls world? I mean, its not like theres a bunch of normal alive people walking around. Where did everyone go? Who built Anor Londo and all those huge castles and for what reason?

Really love the feel and environments of these games....really hate trial and error gameplay, coupled with losing hours of work in the drop of a hat at any moment...sigh

Yeah.....................no......................

People did. Normal people. 1000 years ago, before the fire was linked by Gwyn.

Looks like someone tossed Hellboy and Thanos into a blender

So does it mean anything that the armor set used in every single trailer and footage is the exact same?? Is Fromsoft ditching equip-able armor???!

Stupid question, but it just seems kinda weird that they didn't even show any different armor than the cutscenes/reveal trailer. Do we still customize a character or are we playing as a predetermined one?

Hmmmmm, reminds me a lot of Demon's Souls with how nimble and quick the character is. I preferred Dark Souls in that it conveyed a sense of real weight and realistic movement. Healing seems very fast :(
Looks pretty sweet overall, like a DeS/DkS hybrid.

I'm actually happy that they're not focusing on making the game an eye candy, but rather optimize the level design, which is far more important imho.

Demons Souls - Fluted set
Dark Souls - Elite set

In the second trailer for the game, there is, for a split second at 0:54, the face of a boss with curved horns spawning from his head, looking down on you menacingly. He's got a lot of (normal-shaped) teeth too!

edit : beaten by Zeliard

Could that explain the extra boxes on the right?

it could. i thought the same thing. i guess we will just have to wait and see.

i loved the backwards falling turtle as well. they must have realized backstabbing was overpowered and come up with enemies like this.

Maybe you are thinking of a different game. That doesn't happen in Dark Souls.

Only in over-exaggeration games journalism land.

If you lose LITERAL HOURS of effort in Dark Souls, you did something terribly, terribly stupid. Or probably several very, very stupid things several different times.

It's just the mascot armor like the other souls games had. You can see other gear in screenshots. Chill out.

Hmm

on the darksoulsii.com homepage , if you choose North American as region you can PRE ORDER the game trough the pre order link.

You get directed then to Gamestops site and it says Release Date 12/31/2013

Are you new to advance release date placeholders set by retailers?

As someone who has lost literal hours of effort I can confirm that this is true.

I remember once losing 90k and around 7 humanity because I died on the Bed of Chaos and then respawned, getting the bright idea to not attack one of those giant stomping motherfuckers in the lava.

It was NO ONE'S fault but mine. And it ended up being like 30 minutes of time. Ate my loss, went and finished the boss, and that was that.

Some of the enviroments reminded me of Demon's Souls ( Boletarian Palace,Stonefang Tunnel...) wich is very good.

Now give me something that matches the atmosphere of Tower of Latria and you, From Software, will be in the Olympus of Videogames.

You have a heart of gold. Don't let them take it from you.

Pros:
-Graphics look real good
-nice atmosphere
-great enemy designs
-cloth physics are nice
-Like the dragons theme
-Storytelling is remaining minimalistic
-movement seems faster a la demons souls
-HUD takes up less space
-Keymouths seems like a cool idea

Cons:
-walking animation looks weird
-animation seemed like it carried less weight (like with the sword)
-Those healing stones heal you real fast like grass
-Oppressive atmosphere is not really there imo but that could be just that level
-Enemies died real easily.

I'm gonna sound real annoying right now to a lot of people, but to me this reads (and I agree with your list btw) like:

Pros: graphics/sound good

Cons: gameplay weird/too fast(player)/easy looking

And that's what worries me. Also, that's why I don't get why this gameplay eased people's concerns... Because "hey, gameplay looks weird, but there's time to change it" leaves me at the same point I was before the gameplay reveal

P.S.: Humanity?

Honestly, with the game importing that many aspects of Dark Souls, it might just make the holiday 2013 launch... right? I mean, they already showed a demo now, and it will most likely be in playable form at E3.

What're the odds of this coming out this year? Looks like the text in the game is already in English. Seems like this could be a fall release.

Also stone of healing might be the Estus Flask for Dark Souls 2? or the humanity equivalent, which i doubt because it was set at 20.
