Nokia Music update:

Thanks to all our customers for their amazing feedback. We listened and these are the first set of changes we’ve made based on your feedback:

In-App Purchase - You can now buy your favorite songs and albums directly from within the app. They’ll be downloaded straight to your ‘My Music’ library for your listening pleasure.

Recent Songs - Missed the song you just listened to? Click the Play Queue icon in the Now Playing screen and you’ll see a list of the Mixes and songs you have listened to recently. Click the song to buy (you’ll be asked to confirm purchase first).

Expanded Artist pages – Browse artists’ releases from our music catalogue of millions of songs - directly from their artist page.

Improved My Music collection – We’ve introduced a new design: funkier, and easier to use. The new semantic zoom (zoomed out) view will allow those of you with a large music collection to navigate your music better. We’ve also tweaked the knobs and dials of our music database behind the scenes to not only handle larger music collections, but also let you navigate them more quickly.

Plus loads of general performance improvements, squashed bugs and improved user experience.

We think you’re going to love it. Keep the feedback coming! And stay tuned: we’ve got some amazing new features on the way...

Feature request: I know that desktop apps can't use charms, but it would be really cool if the IE team added an add to Reading List to the desktop IE.

Large meetings on Skype would be a godsend for small groups trying to deal with conference call costs.

And common app platform with Windows? Fucking finally.

uhhh you can. should be set that way by default anyway.

Internet Options-Programs-Let Internet Explorer Decide.

(IE needs to be default browser to use metro).

oh... right... but that requires it as your default browser it seems? Oh well... I guess it's *possible* at least... and that's really all I asked for :p

I would imagine that is coming with the integration with lync.... lync can already do large meetings.

I hope it actually means that though. Technically what we have now is a common app platform but what I want is the same store across all windows devices where if I buy something once I get it everywhere.

Finally got this damn thing installed on my RT. It's SOOOOOOO much better and I really like Windows 8. Outlook RT makes this the ultimate device.

Should I get Windows 8? Currently 32-bit Windows 7 with Metro Tiles on my desktop. My main concern is whether or not all my programs and shit will be compatible with a new OS.

There's your answer. You liked the Metro Tiles so much that you shoe horned it into Windows 7 lol.

Why not go for the "superior" native Metro experience of Windows 8?

Well the tiles are definitely nice. It cleaned up all the stuff I was too lazy to put in folders. Here's what my desktop looks like now:

But I certainly wouldn't switch over entirely for a simple gimmick. If it'll pose more problems for my applications and require me to relearn the PC, I'll just keep my setup now.

download the 8.1 preview and see if you like it.

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?

There is an updater you can run from the MS store that will tell you which programs won't work if any. I haven't had anything that didn't work.

If you're happy enough with Windows 7 there's no major reason why you'd need to upgrade to 8. Although of course there are some improvements that you might appreciate. If you're comfortable running a preview OS as your main OS then you could always try out the Windows 8.1 preview. Although obviously you should expect a few bugs.

If you don't want to run it as your main OS then just download something like VirtualBox and run it in a virtual machine.

Either way, just try it out and see for yourself.

Hmm... I don't use any of the Nero stuff but I don't really want to reinstall FL studio and all that again :/

All my other apps and programs seem to work fine though. I'll preview it at the very least.

EDIT: Preview setup is asking me for a product key -___-

There should be a common product key on Microsoft page (probably on the very same page you've downloaded the iso from). I remember it was the same with all preview versions of Windows 8.

So my windows 8 lately decides to start freezing at times..

Basically I leave it idle for a bit. It starts doing its maintenance like always. But then when I get back and move mouse or something.. freeze.

Anyone know what the cause might be? I disabled that automatic maintenance on idle for now, hope that helps.

So, SkyDrive isn't updating any of my files locally with 8.1.

I had to just save an updated version of a document to the Desktop like it's 1995 to attach it to an email lol.

Mine is doing this too. I tried resetting to stop it, and worked, but one of the updates made it start doing that again... All my SkyDrive files are essentially useless...

From what I understand you have to right click the file and make it available offline, otherwise it will only exist in the cloud.

Finally was able to install the damn 8.1 preview. I had to disconnect one my HDDs just to have the installation to continue. It took me the whole day. I can't say the time wasted is worth it but I really like 8.1. The weird thing is the feature that excited me the most is the desktop booting and having the ability to use the wallpaper as Metro background but I'm not using it. I gotten used to the duality of the desktop and Metro that when I switched to desktop only, I missed it.

Do you have a SSD? What kind?

Yeah I did that for all my files, but I wasn't offline at all.

If I open the app, it still isn't updated. If I go to the website, everything is updated, but I cannot access updated files from my computer.

Is there any gesture, or setting for selecting multiple items on the desktop with touch? I thought that checkbox option was for that, but it only works for mouse/pen...

Edit: Oh, it does work with touch, but you have to pin point the touch where the checkbox is, even though it's invisible... So, basically useless...

Windows 8.1/IE11 users:

Got a request, can you check if they fixed these two bugs:

First one:

IE10 saves images from wikia sites as untitled.png instead of their original file name and picture format.

For example:

http://acecombat.wikia.com/wiki/Ace...ack?file=ACZERO_Original_Soundtrack_Cover.jpg

IE10 saves it as untitled.png while Firefox saves it as ACZERO_Original_Soundtrack_Cover.jpg

Second:

IE10 adds %20 instead of SPACE in file names when saving pictures from sites like:

http://konachan.com/post/show/159830/narukami_yuu-persona-persona_4

(site is NSFW but this picture is SFW)

Would really appreciate it if someone can report back on whether IE11 fixes these bugs or not.

I'm trying W8.1 and PC is running quite slow now, I opened the task manager and I have the hard drive usage up to 100% by some Windows services reading at 1meg/sec?, and it does this all the time. It's not downloading any update.. not sure what the hell is it doing.

I've had this problem on and on since I first upgraded to Windows 8 on launch day and it persists with 8.1

I have my task bar set to hide when I'm not scrolled over it but often times when using anything from steam to chrome the task bar won't pop up when I put my mouse over it and I'm forced to alt tab out or minimize the application depending on what it is. What's the deal?

Sorry MCD, I actually did report that bug when you asked me to. I haven't checked on its status, but I'm guessing that it's not the type of issue that will be fixed at this point. IE has a huge number of far more important issues to fix first that all affect a much larger set of people.

It's fine, no need to apologize.

But that second one (space thingy) was reported by me since IE9 beta days and they told me that they acknowledge it but not enough time so next IE will sort it out.

At this rate, IE15 will fix it for sure!

Messaging app is now gone and is supposed to be replaced by Skype. The Metro Skype is not yet interoperable with Facebook.

Do you know if they are ever going to fix the back buttons being unresponsive until the page has fully loaded? So annoying to keep clicking back and nothing happening because some third party js file is hanging. Should just cancel the page load and navigate backwards immediately instead.

A few new updates were released for 8.1, one of them fixes the stuttery scrolling of list views that was a problem in W8 and especially noticeable in for example Photo Gallery. Good, good.

Firstly lemme say, I really really dislike win8, will I get over it ever?

Now some questions:
I accidentally created another MS id, meaning at the time of need, I couldn't remember my password. I thought I could merge them later. I should have known better.
Is there any legal way to merge 2 MS IDs into one?
Updates take so much time, I can't believe it. Does anybody have this problem? Is it possible to fix it?
Automatic updates sometimes simply don't work, it seems, I have to update manually, don't know what causes it, as updates are on auto, I doublechecked it.
What about video and audio codecs? I had problem with win7, so now I'm wary.

Yea definitely. I've searched multiple times to see if anyone had made an application that would achieve this but no one has taken the initiative yet.

I did make an application during one of the Windows 8 betas that let you do just that. Yet there was an unforeseen problem with a certain DLL file that meant it wouldn't work on certain other PCs (other than mine). I did resolve that problem, but nobody seemed that interested, so I forgot about it.

But I'm lucky enough to have quite a bit of free time on my hands at the moment. If you want, it wouldn't take more than a day for me to quickly put something together again.

There was an application that did this posted a lot of pages ago in the W8 preview thread... Let me see if I can find it...

Fake edit: Here it is: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=42042040&postcount=4813

Heh, bit of a coincidence there.

I'd definitely be interested in this. I'd love to be able to launch steam or some multimedia applications just using an Xbox controller.

Great. I should be able to start working on it later today (UK time). It shouldn't take too long to at least get a basic version up and running.
