Well, shipped, but in this case the two are more or less the same.

Edit: Oops, I'm wrong, it says sales later in the text.

the fourth day after the launch sales had already topped 2 million units

And Capcom can't afford to build a next gen engine for MH why ?

Basically a giant cash machine. Costs probably 10m to make and they bring in 300,000,000 with it

We need an update of this chart now:

The 'H' stands for hentai.
I said "WOW" when I read that headline.

I hope it has massive legs and gets more 3rd party goodness to the 3DS.

Joke post?

Edit: I'm curious to know the split in this. Some people said they had shipped 2 mil, then they said 1.5 mil with the rest shipping later in the month. There's also download cards and digital sales. Even if it's not the biggest physical release in Japan, I think this is going to have interesting legs

I thought initial shipments were going to be low? 2 million in 2 weeks or something? I guess that was bogus.

That was never a guarantee. The Japanese blog sinobi said there were "signs" Monster Hunter would ship 2 million throughout the month of September.

Now it looks like it's going to be greater than that.

More or less because exactly that. Why go through building a new engine or whatever (I haven't been really following the technical advancements of the series) when people are willing to eat it up for a lot less.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Completely expected.

This is going to sell a ton.

Because it probably wouldnt sell as well on consoles. In the west, monster hunter is still non-existant as it ever will be.

In japan, it has all its appeal on handhelds, and being on the 3ds was pure cash. Why upgrade when consumers are willing to buy it the way it is? They have proven that monster hunters current formula works well and if anything, it needs to remain the way it is.

Accessible on cheap hardware thats portable. And in this case the 3ds is the right answer, even if hardware wise it falls behind.

Edit: i honestly got to say that this was such a great move by nintendo to nab monster hunter when they did. Made their handheld more of a behemoth in the home region. I still have no respect for capcom, but incredible business move. If only sony would realize that they desperately need a new titan for the vita in japan. One that follows through on local lan in its own genre and does its own unique thing so that things turn around an the vita doesnt completely fall out of relevancy to leave the entire market to nintendo. Hopefully not another hunting game for the vita.
