Wii U 32GB Play Immeadiately Family Bundle for Japan on Oct 31 (Wii Party U + NSMBU)

Goddam that is a bundle.

Raising value through digital games rather than crediting back stores for a bigger price drop must be the cheaper alternative. I wonder what the US will get for black Friday then.

Balance board wouldn't be cost effective for the bundle...

unless they increased the bundle price a lot.
Even if it was [cost-effective], it really wouldn't be space-effective.

Trying to get another SKU onto retailer shelves when the product is only selling 5K a week is probably already an ask.

It's the "We're sorry we included an expensive tablet controller, now please pull all that plastic shit out of your closet it works with this system too!" bundle.

Unless u skipped Wii then its "tough luck please buy all that shit and wiimotes and a balance board which we continue to sell at goddamn insane prices"

On Topic: Awesome Bundles.

Off Topic: I forgot Wii Party U was a thing. Kinda wish they'd just devoted resources to more Nintendo Land attractions, that game was like a Wii Party that actually worked.

Back On Topic: Holy shit though the bundles.

I know what you are saying, DLC for NL was a huge miss on their party but I am really interested in the online clubs.

Wii U 32GB: 31,500
NSMBU: 5,985
Wii Party U: TBA (assume same as G&W 4,935)
Sensor Bar: 1,680
Wii Remote Plus: 3,800
30 Days of Karaoke: 1,000

Total: 48,900

Bundle 1: 32,800

Assumed saving: 15,200 yen

Are these two bundles considered “Premium” (i.e. with Deluxe Program available to get money off digital purchases)?

Yes, they come with the Deluxe Program

Well DLC for NintendoLand isn't completely ruled out. They could always return to it. Future WiiU bundles come with an updated version with the new content, existing owners get free DLC to match the updated version :D

Well, if it's that horrible, it won't sell. So everything's all good then? Business will do business.

If it does sell, Japanese people just must be really dumb, right?

I guess similar time frame to the Wind Waker HD bundle, but does seem a bit far in advance to announce this.

But guess sales weren't too hot so

Converted thats only 332$. Thats a great deal.

So if these bundles take off, is Nintendo going to turn around and say, "See? I knew we just needed to crank out more Wii Party, Wii Fit, and Karaoke titles"? Thus learning nothing from history?

If these work, the lesson is have games that people want available ASAP. If this is what people want, why are you going to begrudge them learning that lesson?

Nintendo released 1 game in the first six months of this year in Japan and it was Game & Wario. Consistent releases of appealing software sells systems.

Nintendo needs to sell units of Wii Us to sell its other software that comes later. It needs to sell software AND hardware in order to maintain retail space. I've spent the last year watching the Vita's space slowly dwindle in many stores.

well... at least nintendo has christmas to japan all for itself... sorta

@OP you forgot to include the 2nd bundle's price in the OP.

Also Nintendo Land isn't bundled with regular Wii U Deluxe in Japan, right?

I don't think historically bundling and adding value through increasing storage has been that effective in increasing sales for consoles (?) so it's probably a moot point.

Not really. Nintendo Land was tech demos smothered in Nintendo IP's. Nothing more, nothing less. It has a few solid things in it, but any more game play nintendo had has gone to wario, wii party u etc..that sell for much more than dlc.

besides, Nintendo Land isnt something that should have a future imo. it filled its purpose, time to move on.

These bundles probably won't do much to increase console sales in Japan, and they have more than a whiff of desperation to them. This reminds me of all the "desperation" X360 bundles in Japan that packed in 2 or more games (you never saw any of that with the Wii or PS3, and especially not in less than a year after launch). Then again, the Wii U has a long way to go to overtake even the pathetic X360 console sales in Japan, so I can understand Nintendo's desperation at this point.

man, i would have bought something like this. $330 for all that is pretty damn great. even the $350 one is really nice.

Thanks, fixed, and no it's not included.

It has exactly 559,357 units to catch up to Xbox 360 in Japan according to MC.

There is always that debby downer in every thread. Nintendo does nothing, they get shit on, they do something and they still get shit on.

Blah.....

Just bc he says the bundles wont sell doesnt make it so. They will sell, its a good value, something the wiiu has been kind of lacking.

I'm concerned about what they view as "consistent releases of appealing software." While struggling with HD development, if they're going to crank out Wii This and Wii That because they're faster and less resource intensive, it's going to be unfortunate for the software line-up.

And even if it results in an initial uptick this Winter, I think past is precedent when it comes to how quickly this audience will jump ship. Sure, making larger original HD games with depth is more difficult, but I feel this strategy is betting on the diminishing returns of an audience that simply doesn't spend as much money on Nintendo's key product (video games) as the traditional demographics.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. What else are they gonna do? It will be interesting to see what happens.

People called the massive 3DS price cut desperate and thought no one would pick up the console after that either. How could anyone trust this company dropping the price within 3 months. Obviously gamers in Japan didn't care. They liked the new value. This is a great pack. It doesn't look very miss-targeted or risky. It's cheap, very social, and social games are working quite well over there. Games like Wii Party sold like crazy to the Japanese before.
